web What's your opinion on Reddit?

There are lots of good subreddits. Especially subreddits about specific games and interest communities (like Unity developers and 3D modelers). People seem nice there (at least in communities I mentioned), even pretty shitty posts get "good, keep it up" comments (tho I noticed it's a trait of all eng speaking sites)

And it's also the biggest memes factory

I've been there a few times when I was searching for something on Google. I don't really have an opinion about the people or content there, but I do have an opinion about the thread navigation: it's awful. For example the "show entire discussion" button doesn't actually show the entire discussion.

Some of the subreddits are good, I've found small communities for some of my favorite games and local stuff. I also find places to ask about specific topics, like questions over metallurgy when my prof turns out to be wrong lol

A lot of the larger subreddits are awful, mainly political ones, but the small ones aren't terrible, at least not all of them.

It is generally speaking toxic and insufferable.

EDIT: However since this whole Gamestop stock situation, my opinion of them has become a bit more positive. It's mostly still toxic and insufferable, but the redditors who stuck it to Wall Street seem good in my book.

As someone from the cloverfields, I'm obliged to petty on them. But honestly and leaving that aside, reddit is ok. Better than most normie sites, at least. Not as cool as the motherland, but still better than many. Redditors might have huge egos, but that's about it. Nothing worth hating them with a passion. They actually happen to be helpful and even friendly with strangers. If a redditor gets you triggered you probably should stay away from the internet for your own health and for the sake of others given you're rather dangerous and toxic. They are lightweight when it comes to teasing and trolling. I'd dare say they are harmless.

Now, they won my total respect after the wallstreet crash. People might not understand it, but they actually did peaceful activism. They played by the rules of the game and won against a bunch of bastards that play with the economy and future of all mid to low class people, and they unmasked too that the "free market" is free in name only and it only serves the same few ones. They even saved a company thst had been kicked down systematically by a bunch of egotistical swines wearing bussiness suits.

It's amazing, great communities for the subs I tend to participate in. Been using it daily since before I joined mlp forums, probably like 10+ years. The subs I enjoy the most at the moment are r/science r/worldnews r/aftereffects and r/hololive cause you know, vtubers.

I think the arguments that "people are toxic" is pretty silly, that goes for literally any social media platform on the internet. It's just about the amount of people using it and how easily accessible your posts become to others and vice versa that causes this perception that "reddit is toxic" "twitter is toxic" "x and y is toxic". Nah, it's all about the content and people you choose to put your focus on that gives you that impression. Believe it or not but even on 4chan which has a way worse reputation than reddit, you can easily find people who don't act like a jackass 24/7. If a certain type of behavior from someone bothers you you may ignore it. I never understood the "I saw people on site X saying something I don't like therefore everyone there must be the scum of the earth" mentality. That's a pretty naive and narrow-mined view imo.

oh and by the way I saw some people comment on wsb, it is not a sub I have been following prior but the whole situation is hilarious, kind of wanted to get stonks for the memes lol

There are some more focused subreddits worth looking at from time to time, but beside that the place is basically Twitter with a better posting history. The front page is rubbish and the moderation can be really annoying. I avoid it like the rest of social media.

Its shame in the end, all the information that would have been helpful gone, but it's not the place it was 5 years ago it seems.

Sadly most of the surface Internet got changed for the worse in the last 5-10 years.

It's sad that, that is true...at least these "independent, specialized" forums haven't went that way...or not as much anyway...it is a shame though, having to remember 20 different logins instead of one, but what is done is done.

The road to hell is paved is convince. The more accessible the net bwcame the more commercial and curated it has became.

I really wish I could go back to the late 90s and early 2000s when it comes to tech. ^_^

That era for us was "oooh a computer...wow what do you do with it though? Oh you can do that?... if we get rich we'll get one, they don't really have a use to us yet" and in 2004 we got a PC...and didn't do much on it...and in 2011 or so got internet...and didn't do much on it...and in 17 got fiber to the home...and well we do slightly more on it, mostly because we are forced to...still not a terrible lot though.

The AMPS cell phone system is dearly missed around here though. Sure it may have taken a bag phone and a 5 foot trunk antenna, but you could get a call out to say you got stuck on our poor roads and are not dead. Now its climb up on top of the tractor cab and hope your text will send that says "stk 2 f hm" and hope someone on the other end with understand that it means "stuck 2 miles from home".

I just wish that everything wasn't so toxic and negative. I never use social media because of that and I don't regret it. I never experienced the late 90s, I wasn't born yet. I was born in the early 2000s and I really wonder what everything was like back then.

It is more of a mindset meets technical and infrastructure limitations. If necessity is the mother of invention, then the father would be being curious.
Social media is bad, in general. A lot of drama, and all your data is being collected and analyzed. And the ads are still horrible. lol

It used to be a place of supposed "freespeech" but these days it's more restricted as they pull a lot of subreddits that are not in line with what they want, as well as there are crusaders who actively try to force reddit to ban things by posting toxic content. And they remove that only some things not other things that are more deserving of removal (if they are gonna do so) and I have seen random porn in places and violence.

While there r some good communities I think some of them r a bit extra on rules, whoops u used a word that's not allowed please remove it that kinda thing. I also dislike the new interface sure there r advantages but its a little restricting. I mean i never participated much in it anyway lol the memes can be fun tho

My wife's boyfriend got me a NINTENDO SWITCH!!!!! POGGERS :kirin::kirin:

That's pretty much it. I use it for information like updates to deep rock galactic, or very specific news. I don't think it's a terrible place, just not for me. Also shouldn't we have a pog pony emote?
