A pretty usual day for Ripple Twist. She was at a dig site in the Emerald Isles. She was sitting at her makeshift desk outside, as she begun to do some research, keeping an eye on her daughter, who was playing nearby. She would sigh, she would see her late husband in her filly, yet she refused to stop loving her for that.

For Totum, it was just like another day of running for sports.

But not the sports that involves competition. For she is the award of a chase.

It all started just because of a wish long ago, a wish which turned her life upside down. Everytime a chase begins, she would tell out a swear and expressing her regrets of making that wish.

Sweat travelled down her down and down to her purple gown, which concealed her wings, yet it did not help her other than give her false sense of safety.

“There!" Totum jumped just in time for a spell to hit the ground where she once was. She have to find a way so her pursuers could lose track of her.

She jumped, this time over a fallen log of the tree which blocks the path she's using. She could hear her pursuers spat out colorful languages in frustration. She didn't waste time to gallop.

I can't ran forever. For now, they have to find a way to get pass the log. I'm in an island so finding a hiding place is the only solution. She glance around, but all she saw are more trees and leaves. She gritted her teeth.

After a few minutes, she actually found a place. It was a digging site and the only ponies there is a filly and a mare, possibly her mother. She lowered her eyes Can I trust them? she looked behind her and sighed. She had no choice.

She ran towards the digging site, yelling just loud enough for the filly and the mare to hear her.

“Help!"

Ripple would look up at the sound as she had gone back to her research. "Hello?" she'd call out, before she saw the mare running towards them. At first she wondered what she was running from, until she heard the shouts from the mare's pursuers. "Quick, get inside the site, Lilac, you too" she would say calmly, as her daughter would take the mare's hoof and lead her into the dig site, into some tunnels. 

"Don't worry miss, mommy is trained in fighting, she'll make sure those who are chasing you won't hurt you" The filly would say, being rather well spoken for a four year old.

Totum would not hesitate to hide in the site along with the filly. She would look apologetic to the foal “Sorry. I found no place to hide other than here”

A few minutes of waiting, a trio of unicorn stallions would emerge, looking around them as if they are looking for something. While most of them look nothing out of the ordinary, one of them has a net cutie mark. They would spot Ripple and greeted hello “Hello there, miss” the leader of the greeted. They didn't look too much tense. There may be some chances Ripple can just talk them out of making them leave “Sorry for us interrupting whatever you're doing, but have you spot a mare with slender legs wearing a purple dress?”

Lilac would look to her "It's okay miss, mommy doesn't mind helping" the filly would say, cuddling close to her to keep her safe.

Ripple would look up to the three stallions "Hello gentlemen, I'm afraid I haven;t. IT's just myself, my daughter and her governess here" she would say "I'm here researching this fascinating site" she'd smile sweetly to them "May I ask, why you are searching for this particular mare?"

Totum smiled at the filly, though she felt uncomfortable when she heard the voice of the stallion, who is confronting the filly's mother.

”She was hiding something in her dress which is very 'precious' to me and my friends here” said the lead stallion, “We just kindly want to take her back and discipline her for trying to run away with it” he let out a sigh of disappointment, “Sadly, from what I heard from you, she must have avoid you in fear of being turned to us. Me and my friends are going to leave for now, but if you find we are looking for then we will reward you” he and his friends turned to leave, “Also, I just wanted to say the weather looks today. Have a great day, miss”

Totum closed her eyes they're talking about my wings she looked down at her dress should I stay here? They might come back to recheck the place. Surely, they won't simply believe easily to a mare they haven't seen.

Lilac would cuddle close to the mare, as they could hear Ripple speak "Well I'll keep that in mind, but as you said, she likely slipped my notice, and now..this is government property, so please leave" she would say, escorting the stallions away from the dig site. 

A few moments later, she would poke her head into the dig area "It's okay to come out now" she would say to them.

Totum would crawl out of her dig site with a slight smile, pleased that her pursuers completely lost her “Thank you" she replied, “Your help has helped me escape from those stallions. I will always remember your help”

"I don't know why there were chasing you, but I figure it was for nefarious reasons" Ripple would say "I'm Ripple Twist, and this is my daughter Lilac" she'd say to her, You're welcome to stay here if you need somewhere to stay, we have plenty of food and dirnk"

“Nice to meet you. I'm Totum” Totum thought whether her decision to tell her name is a bad or good idea, she doesn't know them yet not she know what their intentions will be if they found out her secret “Thank you for your kindness, and yes. Those stallions are going after me for vile intentions. I may tell you more information about them later”

"Well, I'll be sure to redirect them should they show up again" Ripple would say, "Come, I'll show you to the living quarters" she'd say, beginning to lead the way, "There's a spare bed, it's only single as it's Lilac's, I say spare, because she spends more time with me than in her own bed"

Totum follows Ripple and Lilac. After talking about getting a 'spare' bed, she decides to ask them a question “Only you two live here?” she wanted to straight ask Ripple where's her husband.

"Well live is..a subjective term" she would say "We're staying here while I work on this excavation, we actually live in the countryside of Canterlot, but yes, it is just us two" she would say, leading her to the little hut.

Totum lifted an eyebrow “You search for ancient bones or those big extinct creatures?” she looked very intrigued by Ripple's job “I hope you found what you are looking for, Miss Ripple”

"Oh no, no, no.. that's the job for Paleantologists, I'm a Archaeologist, I excavate ancient ruins, find out the history of the area, and write about it. My books are often used in college courses" she would say, as they entered, and as they did, Totum would see a few pictures of a guard, a General, it was pretty clear that he was Lilac's father, as the resemblence as uncanny, but there was then, a uniform and his medals in a case, with a plaque memorizing his achievemens and his death.

“Studying the remains of cultures of past civilizations is more interesting than animal bones, yet both of them are still equally important so we could understand what happened in the past. Paleontology and Archeology is like gathering past knowledge which is almost forgotten” Despite being a mere farmer in the past, Totum viewed Archeology and Paleontology very fascinating, what would be life in ancient times, difficult or more easier than the current world they are living in?

Totum would notice several pictures of a stallion in a uniform, and several medals attached to it. He had a look of authority in his face despite being a photo. Totum he's Ripple's wife and Lilac's father, who's face is as similar as to him.

“I assumed that stallion in those pictures are your husband and Lilac's father?”

Ripple would look to the photos that Totum mentioned, and nodded "Yes, my late husband." she would say "Rainbow Blitz, General of the Equestrian army and Hero." she'd say to her "He was on the front lines when the Changeling attack happened, died while on duty" she'd say and sigh a little, but then smiles a little.

“I gave you my condolence” Totum spoke with sympathy, a small sad smile in her lips. She doesn't really care about the invasion until now, having knew the black bug creatures cannot beat the priceesses, let alone defeating three alicorns all together, she was too busy running for her own life, “So, its just you and Lilac living together?” she asked.

Ripple would nod "It was...a terrible event, but Lilac and I have done our best to move on" she'd say and then flick her ear "And yes, unless I hire a nanny for Lilac, it's just the two of us. It gets..lonely at times though." she would say "Kind of one of the reasons Lilac chooses to sleep in my bed with me"

“I see” Totum was in deep thought, Ripple and Lilac lived together without a husband/ father, she understand what it feels like to be alone, having to hide herself from her own race, she doesn't even know whoere her family is or how they're doing. Once after her transformation, she has lost memories of her family.

Now, it would be the perfect time for Ripple to ask Totum of what she's hiding beneath her dress.

She nods but then smiles "So tell me, what is it you're hiding?" she would ask curiously, tilting her head before smiling at her "I mean, I did save you after all, and could I hear your story?"

Totum's eyes widened, then her eyebrows furrowed “Promise not to tell anypony of what you're about to see” she said, starting at Ripple with caution. This was not the first time she revealed her secret to someone who helped her and everything would go wrong than she expected.

Ripple would smile "You have my word on my late husband's grave" she would say "You can trust me dear, I promise" she'd say to her, giving her a hug "I'm not about to hand you over after saving you" she'd say to her "I'm pretty sure that my late husband wouldn't like that"

Totum wasn't the type of mare who would easily trust a stranger even if saved by them, but she could sense Ripple's words are sincere and will keep the promise no matter what she'll reveal. She didn't say anything, only she turned to her purple dress, bit on it, and begin to try to take it off her. She groaned audibly as she continued her struggle, the dress slowly folding to her neck before she managed to pull it off her with her mouth once the clothing covered her head. What was revealed on her side was a pair of wings? The unicorn, which was actually an alicorn drop her purple dress and stared at Ripple and Lilac “This is the reason why those stallions are after me” she told them.

Ripple would blink and then look at her "They were after you because you're an.. Alicorn? So they were hunters of a sort?" She'd ask her "Well, your secret is safe with me, and you're more than welcome to stay with us for as long as you like"
