Life or Death

Strong snorted, "What is safe nowadays?" he replied back. He took a key from a bag in his battle saddle and opened the lock. The treehouse held different rifles that could be attatched to the battle saddle, as well as a lot of ammo. Preserved foods could be seen as well as bits and pieces of Kevlar and steel armor. "Take what you can" he said as he took the ammo. He grabbed a few clips of bullets that went into Roses pistol and gave them to her, then proceeded to attatch the extra weapons to his saddle.

Strong had expected this. He took her pistol and inspected it. Whith a hoof he pointed and said, "This is the mouthpiece, grip it firmy in your teeth to hold. The trigger is pulled by the tongue. It takes some practice to get right, seeing as you aren't a unicorn and can't just levitate the gun. Follow me and I will set some targets for you."

(Bah humbug.)

Rose took the pistol into her mouth, and put her tongue around the trigger. she aimed it at the corn sack, and held her breath. She squeezed the trigger and the pistol shot, hitting the corn stack right in the center, causing the corn to separate. She dropped the pistol and said,

"I... actually hit it?"

Strongs eyebrows raised in surprise, even a small impressed smile appeared. "Nice shot. Perhaps you're not as screwed as I thought out here" he said half jokingly. "Niw that you can shoot, you have a better chance against the zombies and bandits. But let me ask you this, if you are confronted by a bandit, a living pony, would you have the guts to pull the trigger?"

Rose looked at him for a moment, then turned her head to face the ground. She softly said,

"I... I don't know..."

She then looked up again.

"But if it is to protect you, then so be it. You saved my life. I intend to repay the debt."

"No" said Strong sternly, "you owe no debt. This world is unforgiving, don't waste your time trying to keep an I owe you. Got that?". He stood up, and turned away, tightening the bags that were full of ammo and food. "Come on, I know an old camp over in Manehattan. We should bs there before nightfall."

Strong and Rose walked the old trail that led to Manehattan. Not much ensued aside from an occasional wandering zombie and feral forest creature. It was about noon when Strongs stomach growled. He opened his bag and said, "Let's take a break to eat and drink. Always be in good physical condition out here, means stay well fed and hydrated"

While they ate, strong decided to switch out the rifles on his battle saddle from shotguns to hunting rifles, they held more shots per round and were easier to reload. He turned to Rose, "You're awful quiet" he said.

Strong chuckled a little longer and quieted down. He hadn't laughed in a long time, and honestly, it felt good. They finished eating and Strong took a swig of water, passing another canteen to Rose before getting ready to leave once more.

The two walked on, the sun was close to setting so they picked up the pace. They soon came to the ruins of Manehattan, all the buildings looked dead, save for one public building that was barricaded heavily to repel zombies and other intruders. "Here we are" said Strong as they made their way to the large building.

Strong looked at it, "Eeyup. And a bitch to travel up since the elevator doesn't work." he replied. They made their way to the building, where guard ponies pointed their rifles at them. "Name and business" demanded one of the guards.
