music What Music Genres Do You Dislike The Most?

There are no bad genres, just bad music.

That said, the genre with the highest concentration of awful music has to be country. No other genre has been as heavily commercialized and commodified as country music, and most of the people who MAKE country music are so incredibly out of touch with the content of their music, on account of being millionaires who've never done a day of blue collar work in their life. If country music was made by and for this mythologized concept of the southern blue collar worker they try to sell their listeners on, it wouldn't be NEARLY as popular as it is and listened to mainly by people living in urban areas. No self-respecting working class person calls themselves a redneck with pride unless they're completely detached from the actual meaning of that word.

To be clear, not all country music fits this mold and you don't have to be a southern blue collar worker to make decent country music, but it comes off as extremely dishonest when you put on a fake southern accent and assume the image of a southern blue collar worker just to make the kind of radio-friendly garbage you usually hear on country stations.

I feel I should add that like, it also deeply reeks of propaganda. Some of the greatest country songs ever written featured heavy themes of working class solidarity and were often written about unions and genuine working class struggles. Again: not saying all country artists have to be working class to make good music and not saying all country music HAS to be this to be good, but again, a lot of newer country music tries to sell you on this mythologized idea of the working class without any of the teeth. Working class people should not be idolizing the rich and the rich should not be making music for working class people.

I genuinely have no clue why the stock answer to the question "what music genres do you dislike" is "rap", even worse is when the given reason is something along the lines of "too much swearing and drugs and sex and violence". That kind of answer bothers me for 3 main reasons:

1. It's a gross overgeneralization of a genre as massive and diverse as rap is, and honestly kinda screams "I don't know what rap is like"
2. Drugs, sex, and violence are all perfectly valid subject material to include in any music and it very frequently IS included in pop and rock music especially, some of the best songs ever written have included those as subject material.
3. I know a lot of people are gonna groan at this but it needs to be said that there is definitely an element of racism to the way rap as a genre tends to be written off or criticized. It's not subtle either.

I feel I should clarify I'm not calling anyone out specifically here since the most popular answer in this topic seems to be rap, just my two cents on the matter. It's perfectly valid to not enjoy rap as a genre of music but painting the entire genre in broad strokes like that raises a lot of red flags.

Kpop, (I do not apologise for that, don't know why people like it) rap, (Because they love themselves) dubstep, (Because it sounds fake) and anything autotuned. (Because it's not real singing and it's proof they have no talent)

If you ever get 30 minutes to spare I recommend checking out this video.

It's a pretty interesting and educational look in to the history of autotune and pitch correction in the music industry, if you care for a little extra insight on that topic.

Please don't hate me for what I'm about to say: Kpop and Rap (now Kpop has some great artists and I can listen to a few songs, but what I hate about Kpop is actually because my sister loves to play BTS and TWICE as loud as possible and it kind of annoys me).

Crunkcore. Seriously, wtf.

i remember when Lil John was blowing up, that was a meme or something joked about heavily. To think people were actually serious makes me sad and happy. Sad people bought into and happy that there might be a market for the new genre im making that is essentially music with cars.

I like music from all genres but there a time in each genres lifetime where it goes from good to trash then good again...if its lucky.

I hate current pop, but i will listen to 80s and early 90s pop all day. Current Pop is all the same: Take a somewhat good looking person who sounds like Rhianna or Katy Perry, make them weird, rinse and repeat.

Country is a love and dislike for me. Hate early country when it was uber racist, Johnny Cash era country is good, and current country is basically rap but with harmony..i mean, all they sing about is their trucks or tractors.

Current age Hip-Hop like Nicki Minaj or XXX LIl showboatmclarenswag360noscope, is just rich rap. In that its a bunch of rich well off people flexin on their fans and "haters". If Tupac was alive, he'd be wishin he was dead.

Pop Country:  I don't like the country of now a days, its all the same thing up to a point and also just reeks of depression at times.

X-Mas Music: Given I have worked in retail on and off in the years, I have come to hate the poppy x-mas music they play when this time of year comes.

Pop Music:  I don't really listen to main stream music,  its a waste on my ear holes.

Reggaeton, which is something I absolutely detest about. Repetitive beats and vulgar lyrics, some of the songs which involve women (and yes, dirty sex *barf*) in a derogatory manner, many people have never even heard of song genres that were much better in the past yet they'd rather shutter themselves and constantly be in denial. Salsa and merengue... yeah, that's something old people love who would rather stay in the past, I just don't see myself enjoying it. Its like its stuck in the 1940s or 1930s timeline that never grasps the concept of modern times at all.

I'm fine with pretty much every genre – I think there's good and bad stuff in all of them, though some are more to my liking than others. Though there are some niche genres I just don't get, like noise music (the first one that came to my mind). But I guess even those would have some gems if I bothered to look for them.
