It is likely a misunderstanding, as the company that manufactured those products seems unrelated to Habro and so is the person who advertised them, so the company and that person wouldn't know about any unreleased information unless Hasbro explicitly told them. With that said, there is still a possibility of Sprout becoming a member of the main characters in G5.

Also, I would highly oppose Sprout becoming a part of the mane five in his current state as a character. I think that he would need to apologize, receive a proper punishment, and show clear signs of improvement regarding his behavior to be considered part of the mane five.

Personally I don't want Sprout to be part of the manes 5 team, I would have liked him to be like the stupid villain of the series, a bit like eggman in Sonic Boom ( for those who know ) or better like the sneaky girl in total drama ( Marie loup in the FR version, in the US I don't know what her name is , and a new character could join the manes 5 team, a boy in particular so that it's in balance😉

I'm okay with sprout being the sixth pony. I am hopeful his character, at the very least, doesn't fade into obscurity because I really liked him (not for being a jerk, but rather somepony who could be good if he was given a chance).

Honestly, I won't buy it until we see it happen in the series. That said, if it is Sprout, then fine. If there is one character who needs some serious development in that direction; it would be him.

And to the point that the composition of the mane 6 (G5) is out of balance; keep in mind that Cadence was a pegasus before becoming an alicorn. Who is to say that one of those other earth ponies won't have a similar evolution to unicorn-hood?

I was and am be rather sure there will be a 6th member of the Mane cast cause I'm also pretty sure they are going to incorporate the Elements of Harmony at one point.

I haven't been so sure that it would be Sprout, but he would be definitely an option. But at this point I would be cautious, it's rather early.

I believe it would, not to mention a good source of comedy. Besides, FIM ponies were about developing. Sprout has loads of development potential. He is a racist, short time  supremacist, cowardly, and incompetent. Only gripe I have would be we’ll have three earth ponies in the group (Sunny seems to have ditched her alicorn form, for now at least)

If this is indeed true, then I think it would be an interesting concept. Sprout was basically just the standard one-time villain, so giving him extra substance would make for an interesting angle. I think in context of the movie, making Sprout a main character would work better than turning him into a recurring villain or just letting him fade away.

A recent poll from Equestria Daily surprisingly showed the majority of people willing to accept Sprout as a sixth main cast member. 

A slight majority...but still a majority. I'm personally impartial towards Sprout joining the team, I just never felt the contempt for him that a lot of people do.
