CastletonSnob 2,832
I mean, how hard is it to just make a good, powerful console on par with the PS5 and Xbox Series X with no stupid hardware decisions like cartridges for the N64 or mini-discs for the GameCube?

Power doesn't mean anything if you don't sell consoles. What don't you understand? Nintendo doesn't want to make a powerful console. They want to sell consoles. The Switch is proof that they don't need to. They don't want to compete.
Sonic Shimmer 3,962
Last time Nintendo tried to sell a console on its power (the N64) the Playstation dominated it in terms of sales. Focusing on innovation over power led to massive success with the Wii, DS, 3DS and now the Switch (even if they stumbled with the WiiU).
Splashee 28,448
If we one day hear about "Nintendo silicon", then I think we would see better performance and battery life. It is easy to make a really powerful console but not make it easy for developers to utilize it (making games suffer). Thinking about PlayStation 2 and 3 being extra difficult to develop for to actually get the performance it was advertised for. Nintendo is better off the way they are right now.
Jeric 46,747
They are dominant in their own personal ecosystem that works and generates revenue by focusing on compelling and enjoyable gameplay experiences. I don’t think there is a real need for me to have a more powerful Nintendo system that isn’t an incremental upgrade.
Kyoshi 39,406
This issue falls under an overall problem with Nintendo: They are rather disconnected from people and the gaming landscape. Not only are their systems woefully underpowered which quickly makes them difficult to port games to, but their online system is a disaster that hasn't left the year 2004. Not only that, Nintendo doesn't care at all about game preservation or backwards compatibility and they never listen to their consumers. Can Nintendo still make some amazing games? Yes, of course. It doesn't excuse Nintendo's anti-consumer and outdated mindset. On top of that, there are plenty of examples now of Nintendo embracing some of the bad parts of modern gaming while they ignore good aspects. All of their Mario sports titles turn out to be the same exact thing; A good playing game (except mario golf), with no content unless you play online, even though their online is trash. Not to mention Nintendo's horrendous mobile games. Nintendo has so many issues and is constantly given a free pass. It has gotten so old.
