The timeframe of this hypothetical collab being in the middle of the run of Generation 4, aka Friendship is magic.

So how would a Hasbro-Ghibli collab have affected that era of MLP's history?

It would have been great and increased the popularity of MLP. I think it's relatively popular in Japan but it would have become much more so.
