technical issue Bug: Editing a post multiple times shows the post's character counter multiple times

To replicate:

• Make a post or go to a post you already made.
• Edit the post (post does not need to actually change, just opening the post editor is sufficient).
• Save or cancel changes.
• Edit the post again (without leaving or refreshing the page).
• You should see the character counter twice.
• Repeating the steps n times will show n character counters (below I edited the same post seven times and seven character counters are shown accordingly).

Probably, but I have vague memories of IPS stripping the minimum character count feature from the editor entirely, replaced with a *maximum* character count limit in order to replicate Twitter and the like (as they were the social media darlings at the time), and it needing to be replaced by a third-party plug-in. I don't remember if they went through with that or not anymore.

This is someone’s custom JS that they tossed in back during the IPB 4 upgrade.
 

The stock software didn’t have a counter at all. People complained in areas that character count requirements existed, so it was cobbles together quickly as a quality of life enhancement. 
 

It’s a known bug, fairly low on the priority list.
