It was a fairly average seeming day in Ponyville - but for one particular mare it was the start of a new beginning. Lazulia, a crystal mare had moved into the town of Ponyville. Lazulia was a mare who did not seem to go out much, as evidenced by her being inside all day usually. Little did Lazulia know, she had a neighbor. Lazulia was inside her home at the moment - which was largely barren and spartan. She did not take much of anything with her when she moved into the town of Ponyville.

Lazulia was sitting on a chair in her room, the silence of the house was something to note. But to her, that was a good thing. Nobody was here to bother her. No hollering voices. No commotions. Just silence, that was only broken by her aimless worry. Lazulia had not talked to much of anyone since moving here a few days ago. She did not pay attention to the houses next to her.

Though, this did not stop Lazulia's neighbor - from perhaps taking an interest in her.

Things started out pretty typical for Skylight too. That was, until she noticed a peculiar crystal pony move in next door. Skylight couldn't help but to think about this mysterious pony while she was fixing her rainbow rocket launcher of friendship. This crystal pony was the most radiant blue, and she seemed to try to avoid being seen? No that didn't seem quite right... It had been a few days since she moved in, but Skylight couldn't help but to think about her. And what seemed even stranger, Skylight was pretty sure she haven't seen her since then.

Gosh, should I say something to her? Maybe she needs somepony to introduce her around Ponyville. But how should I say it? "Hey. I know you're new here. Want me to show you around this place?" No, that doesn't seem quite right... And what if she's shy and freaks out when I try to talk to her?

A pastry suddenly exploded out of the rocket launcher right into Skylight's face.

Oh gosh, that was loud. I forgot Pinkie Pie left that in there... Hopefully the neighbors don't freak out. Mmm, red velvet, my favorite...

Lazulia hearad some sort of loud noise outside somewhere and wasn't sure what the source of the noise was. She jolted up from her chair and walked towards the window to see what caused it. "What was that...?" she asked herself, wondering what was going on. Lazulia was able to tell the source of the loud noise was from Skylight's house. It wasn't really her business, but Lazulia would exit her home slowly and look towards Skylight's house as if wondering what the source of the noise was.

"I should check to make sure that pony is okay...I mean, what if they got hurt?" she asked herself under her breathe and nervously gulped. "Focus...you got this. Just a friendly check up to make sure they are okay..." Lazulia sighed, and walked up to the door of Skylight's house to knock on it. Lazulia really didn't want to do this - but if that pony inside was hurt because of something, she had a duty to make sure they were okay, and if they weren't she would be sure to tell others so they could call for help.

Lazulia awkwardly stood there, shaking quite nervously while looking like a nervous wreck.

Despite the fact that her ears were still ringing, she pivoted them towards the front door. "I'm fine!" she exclaimed as she glanced up and finished licking the frosting off of her. What she saw made her do a double take. It was the mysterious crystal pony from next door. "Uuh, hey, you're the new pony next door, right?" Skylight asked as she waved the pony over to the patio where her rocket launcher was.

The blue crystal mare would seemingly nervously hobble over to Skylight, seeing the frosting covering her coat. She just sort of stood there awkwardly for a moment as her eyes blinked as she attempted to process what she was seeing. "U-Uh...ummm, yes, I am....a-and whats this?" the blue mare nervously stammered and pointed to the rocket launcher, not knowing what it was. The Crystal mare was definitely nervous.

Skylight glanced between this new mare and her rocket launcher. "Oh, um, this is my Rainbow Rocket Launcher of Friendship. This was what caused the explosion earlier, but it's all fine now. It was Pinkie's cupcakes, hence the frosting everywhere. I would demonstrate, but I don't want to scare the neighbors again," Skylight said sheepishly and gesturing to the frosting everywhere. "Anyways, want a tour of Ponyville? We could start by Sugarcube Corner, and meet Pinkie Pie, unless you have someplace else you want to see first?" Skylight asked.

The mare would look to the to the rocket launcher as if she was a bit intimidated by it, though she'd walk over to it nervously and look it over as if assessing what it really was. The randomness of the frosting everywhere couldn't help but make her giggle nervously. "O-Oh um, thats pretty random..." she said, then looking to Skylight before she would think about the offer. "S-sure, we can do that, you can...lead the way!" Lazulia said, pointing a hoof in a random direction as if she didn't know where Sugarcube Corner was.

"Uh, yeah, right this way!" Skylight exclaimed as she stowed away her rocket launcher and checked over her body for any frosting. Once she confirmed that she was frostingless, she led Lazulia towards Sugarcube Corner.

As soon as the pair arrived at said bakery, Pinkie Pie popped up from behind the counter to greet them. "Oh hey, Skylight, so nice to see you again! Did you see- or should I say- taste the surprise I left in your rocket launcher? Hmm, smells like you did, hehe," Pinkie remarked, greeting Skylight with an elaborate brohoof sequence before turning her attention to Lazulia. "And you must be the new pony in town! What brings you to Ponyville? I'm Pinkie Pie, by the way. Do you want a welcome party? Or do you want to talk? I can talk about a lot of things! Or do you want a pastry?" Pinkie Pie squeaked while gesturing wildly with her hooves.

"Erm, I don't think a welcome party would be the best idea... Maybe we could start with an introduction and a pastry that Ponyville is known for?" Skylight suggested.

Lazulia would watch as Skylight checked her body to make sure that she was indeed frostingless. With that proven, Lazulia would gladly follow Skylight towards Sugarcube Corner. The blue mare's eyes would dart back and forth constantly as she walked along - as if she was more than a little worried about something. Whatever it was, she kept that close to herself and stayed quiet until they went to Sugarcube Corner. "I uh, just came here...to experience new things and get away from my home! U-uh yeah!" Lazulia said with a nervous smile across her face. "But, I would be happy to try some pastries or food you have here...it looks so yummy, I've never seen any of this stuff before..." Lazulia said looking at all the pastries with an innocent smile.

"Oh my gosh, I have so many things for you to try!" Pinkie gasped as she lept into the air before darting into the kitchen, which was followed by loud crashing noises.

"Yeah Pinkie's like that. She's a baker and the town party planner, and is super energetic and cheerful. Uuh, Perhaps we should take a seat," Skylight said, gesturing to a table for two and sitting down. "So uuh, what made you choose Ponyville?" Skylight asked.

Not long afterward, Pinkie Pie bounced out with a bunch of dishes balanced on her mane before setting them all down on the table dramatically. "I would say try the apple pie, but there are so many different choices! It's so hard to pick just a few..." Pinkie whined.

"Wait, I never got your name! I'm Pinkie Pie, what's yours?" Pinkie Pie exclaimed, leaping up suddenly.

"Oh, erm, I'm Skylight..." Skylight said after she realized that she didn't introduce herself either. "And I'll have the peach and plum cobbler."

Lazulia watches as Pinkie goes away towards the back - finding herself thinking that Pinkie was a very hyperactive pony to say the least. She would sit down across from Skylight and chuckle sheepishly as she looked to Skylight. "I uh...just picked randomly! Yup! Just like that!" she said, with an awkward grin on her face that indicated she wasn't prepared to answer that question. It wasn't too far from the truth, though.

Lazulia would look to Pinkie as she got out a bunch of dishes from her mane, her nervous blue eyes falling upon all the delicious looking pies. She would pick a blueberry one and turn to Pinkie, "Thank you for these pies, they look so yummy...." she spoke and started to eat - unaware she hadn't stated her name yet. The blue crystal mare appeared to be having a lot of fun, enjoying that delicious blueberry pie.

Pinkie Pie seemed disappointed that Lazulia didn't introduce herself, or try the apple pie. She nudged the apple pie in Lazulias direction while scooping up the rest of the deserts. "You have to try this. You have to find out; it's what Ponyville is known for," Pinkie Pie winked at Lazulia. "Also, I don't think I caught your name..."

"Oh wow, this is good," Skylight remarked as she savored her cobbler. The juicy tanginess of the peaches and plums nicely combined with the warm crispiness of the cobbler and the cold, creamy, sweetness of the vanilla ice cream scoop. She glanced over to Lazuilia. "How's the pie?"

Lazulia looked at the apple pie and started to eat it. It was as if she never had an apple pie before - and Pinkie Pie could see her face light up a bit as she swallowed. It was very good! Lazulia has never had something that tasted this good before. "Mmm...this is delicious...my name is Lazulia..." she spoke, apparently having missed Pinkie Pie's question previously. Lazulia definitely seemed like she was acting a little strange, but it was because she was nervous and wasn't really confident in interacting with ponies. Lazulia would look over to Skylight and was very curious about what she was eating, it was as if she hadn't had normal pony food like this before! "That looks so good, what is that, what are you eating?" Lazulia asked with curious innocence. Lazulia would start eating another apple pie.

Skylight couldn't help but stare at Lazulia. She leaned over to whisper to Pinkie Pie "She is really obsessed with those pies..." Skylight pointed out.

"Eh, you were pretty awkward and shy when I first met you," Pinkie Pie replied. However, she glanced at Lazulia and tried to figure out if she should offer more desserts for her to try with the rate she was eating them all.

"Oh, um, This is a peach and plum cobbler. I chose this because the peaches and plums are currently in season. It's really good; the way the flavors contrast yet combine is delicious," Skylight described.

"I know, right? I made them!" Pinkie Pie exclaimed before leaning to whisper "Although I have to give credit where credit is due, the earth ponies here are very good at growing fruit." She would then back up and glance at the rate that Lazulia was eating the deserts again. "Do you want some more deserts? I have more if you're hungry..." Pinkie Pie said, pulling out pear upside-down cake, carrot cake, cherry pie, blueberry cobbler, strawberry shortcake, and cranberry crumble.

Lazulia would look to Pinkie Pie with excitement, her tail would wag a little bit - though she was unaware of that. It must be some kind of subconscious thing for her when she is excited. "I'll have some more, but I don't wanna eat all of your food...its just...so good..." Lazulia stared at the pies and started to eat more of them. It was clear she hadn't ate anything else today and she was ready to eat all these yummy delicious foods she never had before. Soon enough Lazulia would seemingly stop herself before she ate all of them - and she was quite full and looked a little out of it. With an awkward, almost anxious smile she'd look to Pinkie and Skylight - "Delicious...right?" she said, looking at all of what she just ate.

Pinkie turned to give Lazulia a semi-serious glare when the idea of running out of food was brought up. "You? Eat all of my food? Not on my watch. I believe that everypony should be able to eat sweets to their heart's content!" Pinkie exclaimed, gesturing wildly and finishing with a smile. "With Applejack and I in town, we'll make sure you'll never go hungry! Speaking of which, you two should totally meet her over at Sweet Apple Acres next. They've got Apple Fritter, Apple Bumpkin, Red Gala, Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, Caramel Apple, Apple Strudel, Apple Tart, Baked Apples, Apple Brioche, Apple Cinnamon Crisp, Big Mcintosh, Apple Bloom, and Granny Smith!" Pinkie Pie exclaimed, somehow pulling pictures of what she was referring to out of her mane.

"Yes, I love the pastries here. Pinkie Pie makes the best pastries..." Skylight replied, which got a bone-crushing hug from Pinkie Pie in response. "Oh Skylight, you flatter me..."  she giggled.

"Anything else you want to talk to Pinkie Pie about? If not, we should probably get going now," Skylight said as she got up and began heading for the door, gesturing Lazulia to follow.

Lazulia would look into Pinkie's eyes, seemingly wincing a bit as if she was expecting Pinkie to do something but the response she got was so happy and jovial. It made Lazulia's heart melt with joy to think that someone would be willing to provide for her. Pinkie Pie naming all these names was a little crazy, but it was something that was quite amusing to her. "O-oh my, thats a lot of names...." she said, blushing slightly. Looking at all the picture frames, she could tell Apple Jack had a big family.

"I wish I had a family like that..." Lazulia said, her eyes seeming to twitch a bit as she looked down. But then she would look to all the delicious food on the table, and begin eating...

Now that it was time to go, Lazulia had eaten quite a lot. A lot, indeed - as Skylight and Pinkie Pie could see that she managed to eat a good margin of the food here. It was if Lazulia had never eaten before. Lazulia was slightly bloated from eating all that food and sheepishly giggled to Skylight's words.

"Y-yeah, I think I'm ready to go. I'm full, anyway!" she said, her face flushed with nervousness but also excitement. This was starting to get exciting for her. Lazulia would hobble along, following Skylight out. She certainly ate a lot!

"Alright let's go. See ya Pinkie," Skylight said as she led Lazulia towards the exit and towards Sweet Apple Acres.

"Don't forget about our super secret and fun weekly activity that we're doing tomorrow that's between just the two of us!" Pinkie Pie shouted as the pair left. "Oops, did I say the secret part out loud?"

Skylight led the way towards Sweet Apple Acres. As the pair headed out from the town center, it became apparent that Ponyville wasn't a small town, with many ponies walking on the streets along with many shops and restaurants. However, as they approached the edge of town, it also became apparent that Ponyville was still very connected to their agricultural roots, with farms as far as the eye could see. Skylight led the Lazulia towards a particularly large farm surrounded by apple orchards.

"And this here is Sweet Apple Acres, where Applejack lives. Look, there she is," Skylight pointed to an orange pony run up and buck an apple tree dramatically with a "Yeehaw!" before turning and noticing the pair.

"Well howdy do Skylight, what brings you and your partner to Sweet Apple Acres?" Applejack asked as she walked up.

Lazulia would look in Pinkie's direction. A nervous smile came across her lips as she heard the "Secret" part outloud. It was as if Pinkie wanted her to hear that. Maybe Lazulia will be able to check it out? These ponies were welcoming...and the food was delicious. Lazulia felt like she could finally start getting to relax.

As they walked out from the town center, Lazulia would look about and notice the large amount of ponies walking about the town - going about their lives. It was comforting to see all the various ponies, seemingly satisfied with their lives. Nobody was judging her or demeaning her, she felt...at peace. At the edge of town, she'd note the agricultural feel in the air, which was exemplified by their approach onto the large farm surrounded by apple orchards.

Lazulia had never seen anything like it. Her eyes seemed transfixed on everything. "I never saw anything so...open, with many trees before...huh...." Lazulia said, as if this was the first time seeing a farm for her.

"Oh I'm just showing my new neighbor around," Skylight would gesture to Lazulia.

"Well howdy there, what's your name?" Applejack would ask Lazulia as she turned to her. She stuck her hoof out and if Lazulia accepted, she would give a very firm hoofshake. "A pleasure makin' your acquaintance. I'm Applejack. We here at Sweet Apple Acres sure do like makin' new friends! What brings you to Sweet Apple Acres?" She would introduce herself.

"Never seen a farm before? Well, we grow apples, the best in Equestria, and we grow a lot of em!" She would buck a tree and cause exactly one apple to fall before offering it to Lazulia.  "We also grow other food like wheat and corn," she added.

Despite the size of Sweet Apple Acres and the density of apple trees, the pair didn't see another pony until a large red stallion with a wagon hitched to himself approached the trio. "Yup," he agreed with Applejack as he got to work swapping the baskets full of apples with empty ones waiting to be filled.

"This here is my big brother Big Mcintosh. He helps me with the apples," Applejack added, which got another "Yup," as a reply from Big Mac.

"I'm just finishin' up the harvest. If you want, I can lead you all to meet the rest of the Apples," Applejack offered. Skylight would look to Lazulia to see what she would say.

Lazulia would listen to Applejack's words and would nervously extend her hoof to shake Applejack's hoof. "My name is um, Lazulia..." she stated, looking into Applejack's eyes - it was clear that Lazulia felt slightly intimidated by what she was seeing. Lazulia would glance over and look to the red fruit that fell from the tree and then she'd hold it in her hands as if she wasn't sure what to do with it. Then she'd slowly bite into it, tasting it for the first time.

"Well, its a very red fruit...we don't have these in the Crystal Empire..." she said as she swallowed, "Tastes...good, like...really good actually." Lazulia said, her eyes lighting up a bit with joy as she would then notice Big Mac. A very strong Red Earth pony - looked quite fitting for this farm. She would give a shy wave in his direction.

"S-sure, you can show me the rest of your family, if you don't mind." she spoke, looking a bit down at the ground in nervousness as she was still chewing on the apple that was given to her.

"Huh, ya know, I never thought about that. What kind of foods does the Crystal Empire grow?" Applejack asked, turning towards Lazulia as they walked back towards the farmhouse. "Yeah, I know, we have the best apples in all of Equestria!"

"Yup!" Big Mac agreed.

Soon enough, the pair arrived at the farmhouse, and the two siblings stopped by the barn next door to drop off the apples before heading inside. Inside, an older lime-colored mare was tossing a salad on the table. "Well howdy do, youngins," she remarked when she noticed the pair of guests.

"This here is Granny Smith. She's the head of the farm," Applejack explained.

It was at that moment the door they just entered through flew open. "You know, underwater basket-weaving is so much fun! We should do it again sometime..." a trio of school-age fillies exclaimed as they entered. They trailed off when they noticed the guest without a cutie mark. They abruptly huddled together and started whispering to each other before nodding and turning to face Lazulia.

"Hi there, you must be new here. Don't worry, we'll solve your cutie mark problem! What's your name?" the yellow filly with a red bow asked.

"Did you just not find your talent yet? What do you like doing? What about underwater basket-weaving?" the white filly asked.

"Don't worry, we know what it's like to get your cutie mark late! We got all kinds of things to try!" the orange filly exclaimed.

"And these are the Cutie Mark Crusaders. They help ponies with cutie marks. Apple Bloom, Sweetie Belle, Scootaloo," Skylight gestured to the three fillies respectively.

"We mostly eat fish, from the nearby ice lakes we go ice fishing out on...uh, we also have fruits too, but we grow them underground where the snow can't reach them. Starfruits, berries, nuts, huckleberries, is mostly the kind of fruits we seem to eat...though recently, the more rich types can afford to import Equestrian food, I just never really had the chance to try it yet." Lazulia said, looking to Applejack with shy blue eyes. Big Mac didn't seem to talk much, did he? That amused her a little bit.

When they arrived at the farmhouse, Lazulia would look to the older mare who was tossing the salad. "It's nice to meet you..." Lazulia said, with a respectful nod in the lime-colored mare's direction. Then at the moment she heard the door fly open and she jumped a little bit in surprise, witnessing the three school-age fillies.

Lazulia looked over to them, as if not sure what to think of them at the moment. "Cutie Mark Crusaders...hmm...well, I've given up on trying to find my cutie mark - I tried so hard when I was younger, but as I am a grown mare...I don't know if it would ever be possible." she spoke, and looked to the yellow filly, "My name is Lazulia." she spoke, turning to face them - and Skylight could clearly see that she lacked a cutie mark on her flank.

"There isn't anything stopping a grown mare from getting a cutie mark, is there? Can we make her want to get her cutie mark?"

Just give us a day to prepare and we'll meet up again tomorrow at Twilight's castle," the trio finished before darting upstairs to Apple Bloom's bedroom.

Lazulia would look to the two of them. She would smile softly as she would explain, "We use light crystals to illuminate underground greenhouses in large caves. It's pretty interesting...I've seen it a handful of times, caves so large that could fit an entire town inside of them. Sometimes there can be whole fields of plants in those caves we've cultivated to grow certain things. The Crystal Empire is...always cold and snowy, but when we discovered how to do that...we were no longer so cold and hungry all the time." she said, looking at them with innocent eyes.

Lazulia looked at the three fillies and looked down to them as if nervous and not sure how to respond. "I...I'll see you tomorrow I suppose?" she asked, she wasn't able to get a word before the three of them ran off up the stairs. Lazulia would then turn to Applejack and Skylight.

"It's just that...I never was able to get one no matter what I tried. I don't even know what I enjoy..." Lazulia said with a sad tone in her eyes. "That's why I came here...to find myself...to escape my m-" Lazulia cut herself off as a few tears fell from her eyes and she looked away, not wanting to go further with that for now. "It's okay it just...I don't know what to do. I don't know who I am or what my purpose is..." Lazulia would wander over to one of the chairs and sit down, looking down at the ground with sadness in her eyes.

"That's why I was never able to get my cutie mark..." but then a thought crossed her mind, "But what if I don't need...or want one? Why would I want to be tied to one destiny...? Maybe the truth is...I was never meant to have one?" Lazulia said, looking back up into Skylight, her eyes meeting hers as if she was asking her for an answer.
