My favorite is The Muppet Christmas Carol.

The Muppet Christmas Carol and the George C. Scott TV movie version from 1984 are my favorite "live action" adaptations. :fluttercutehat:

 I also love Mickey's Christmas Carol. :rarityhat:

@Snoopy Fan

Thank you for asking! :kirin: Did you know that each year, I look up and watch different versions of A Christmas Carol? I'm always in on the hunt to find either the best or the most definitive version.

Mickey's Christmas Carol was my first introduction to the timeless tale. It is not perfect, but it's so nostalgic, I can't help but love it. And speaking of, Disney somehow struck gold twice with their CGI cartoon version of a Christmas Carol in 2009 staring Jim Carrey. Going back to nostalgia, I also rather enjoy A Flintstone's Christmas Carol and Mister Magoo's Christmas Carol. I checked this one out mostly because of friends like @Sparklefan1234, but The Muppets Christmas Carol is surprisingly well done, especially if you watch the extended version (why they cut out that one scene is beyond me). 1984's A Christmas Carol starring George C. Scott stands as one of the most timeless versions, and probably one of the most faithful. But if you want a modern take on the story that understands the material without forcing it to be exactly the same as the classic story, I suggest either 1988's Scrooged starring Bill Murray or 2000's A Christmas Carol starring Ross Kemp.

And how can I forget about "A Hearth's Warming Tail" from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic? :mlp_yeehaa: It starts off as an adaptation, but makes just enough changes to fit with the fictional pony world, thus making it their perfectly fitting adaptation without missing the spirit of the original story.

That's just a short collection of the best. There are other great adaptations, but off the top of my head, that's all I could think of. I'd have to dig out my records for more recommendations. :twi: But if you follow my status updates, you'll see that every week in December, I watch and review at least one adaptation a week. Since the classic Dickens tale is so old, there is plenty to discover both old and newly made. I'll probably never run out of movies, cartoons, specials, and TV show episodes to review~!

I quite enjoyed The Muppet Christmas Carol. I don't know if it's my favorite, because I've seen a few and enjoyed most of them. I hate to say this, considering what forum this is, but the MLP Christmas Carol episode (I can't recall the name off the top of my head) isn't very high on my list. I enjoyed it a lot, but as a take on A Christmas Carol, it missed the mark.

I agree. I think "For Whom the Sweetie Belle Toils" is a better version of the Christmas Carol story but that's mainly because we've seen

Sweetie Belle and Rarity bicker in the past etc. while Starlight Glimmer's reason is..."I don't like Hearth's Warming." which, is pretty weak. :dashcutehat:

It's also strange that they call it an 'extended version' when that scene was part of the original theatrical release of the movie. I can't even imagine why they ever cut it, considering it's necessary to the story.

The Patrick Stewart version is also really good, and faithful to the book.

The Alastair Sim version took an interesting look at Scrooge as sort of a feeble old man who was too old to change. I thought that was interesting and realistic.

It's fun to see which versions use which materials from the original story. Some show scenes of Scrooge and Marley starting off with a hostile takeover to establish themselves, and some show the important scene of what happened to Scrooge's fiancé after he left her, and the life she ultimately had.

The Muppets are still my favorites though, and have the best, most balanced telling of the tale.

Lionel Barrymore would have been great had his health problems not prevented his casting in the Reginald Owen version of the story. But you can at least hear the trimmed-down radio version of Barrymore's rendition, which is quite good.
