Rain shot out of bed, her nightgown dirty from days of listlessly lying there, and ran to the window, before backing away. A plane had crashed there, and below was pandemonium. Another explosion happened and the ground underneath them trembled as Rain staggered back, unused to standing. Suddenly the door burst open, revealing Rachel holding a bawling Ella. "You have to take her!" she screamed over the sirens and brouhaha below. She ran over to Rain and shoved the baby in her arms. "I...huh...what about you?" mumbled Rain, but Rachel shook her head, tears coursing down her cheek as plaster suddenly began to crash around them. "I can't leave...but you can." "Why no-ooohhh," Rain gasped at the enormous gash on Rachel's leg. "Rachel, please, save yourself, I-" "NO," said Rachel firmly, and she grabbed Rain's arm. "I've done many terrible things in my lifetime, Rain-but you have a full one ahead of you, and so does Ella. Are you just going to throw my babies life away?" Her eyes were fierce. "If not for you, do it for her." Before Rain could protest Rachel shoved something in her hand and smiled wistfully through her tears. "It's the key to my old apartment, the one on the other side of the city. You'll remember it. I got rid of that equpiment long ago, though." She closed Rain's hand and slipped Ella in her arms, then hugged her tightly. "Be safe. Get away as fast as you can." She kissed Ella on the cheek and made a choking sound. "Seb will find you there. Tell him...tell him to come visit me, okay?" There was another explosion and Ella cried louder as the ceiling fell. "GO!" screamed Rachel, shoving Rain towards the door. "And don't forget-I lov-" She was cut off as a huge plaster chunk knocked her out. Rain tried to grab her but it was too late-blood was seeping out. "RACHEL!" she cried, and, knowing there was nothing else, to do, she squeezed her friend's hand one last time an fled. Outside, chunks of flaming plane were flying everywhere, and it was chaos in the streets. Rain stood in silence, feeling tears of despiration roll down her cheeks. A man was running towards his dented car, and she tried to stop him. "Oh please, you have to help me!-" she began, but he shoved her onto the ground and trampled over her. Rain clutched Ella to her chest in horror as she watched people being crushed by bits of falling building. There was a faint whistling, and she looked up to see a small flaming piece of metal flying towards her. She managed to roll out of the way, but it grazed her side and suddenly an enormous burn appeared, the flesh singed. Rain screamed in blind pain, her vision going red as the blood vessels in her eyes popped. The side of her nightgown was on fire and sh put Ella on the ground as she suddenly collapsed, watching as the flames ate away at her arm. I'm going to die, she thought, but her voice surprised her. It was calm, matter-of-fact-she was going to die, and she could do nothing to stop it. But Ella. She tried to grab the baby when suddenly a dark form snatched her. Rain tried to make a noise but someone hurriedly said, "It's all right. I'll take care of her." Rain made a choking sound. The flames were eating away at her leg now, and she couldn't make anything more than a moan. I'm going to die. And I like it.
