Brook 663 July 20, 2012 Share July 20, 2012 (edited) Alright, before you read this, keep in mind that while ignoring haters is one way of dealing with them, it's not a solution in my opinion. Okay, now, I know that our fandom is kind-of past the stage of having to fight for their internet lives, but this also applies to other aspects of life, so I am making this post. When it comes to haters, everypony knows that they aren't worth getting mad about or making a fuss, and while that is true, ignoring them won't solve anything. No matter what you say, a hater will definatly do his best to make fun of you or insult you, but, if you don't say anything, they won't stop, they will never stop unless you do something. So what I'm saying is that a hater isn't a reason to get angry, and ignoring means you don't want to deal with them, which means you are at least somewhat annoyed, which means you're somewhat angry. The best way to deal with them in my opinion is to make them question themselves, because even if they reply like an eight year-old, they will think about it, which may or may not lead to him reconsidering his ways. But at least it will do something, because ignoring won't do anything. For example, there was an episode in Southpark where Cartman was making fun of breast cancer after Wendy made a lecture about it in class, as the episode goes on, Wendy tries to make him stop by trying to explain about breast cancer and how it is serious matter, therefore he shouldn't make fun of it. But in ordinery Cartman fashion, he continues to do all he can to make sure she can't stop him. He even went as far as lying to his mother, Wendy's parents, and about everyone else in the school about him wanting to be friedns with Wendy, so no one will have the power to stop him from going about his buisness. Wendy gave up on trying to stop him, and he continues to make fun of breast cancer in a fake lecture in-front of the class. Eventually, she decides to take him head-on once and for all, and beats the living *SQUEE* out of him. And I'm not saying that we should go violent, but we can't afford to be the pin cushion of the haters. I know I haven't given too many alternatives to ignoring haters, but I figure we're all smart enough to reply sophisticatedly. In conclusion, not facing your problem doesn't solve anything, and while you shouldn't reduce to a haters level or anything, you should try to make him think about what he said or is saying. This is purely my opinion, I'd be happy to hear your thoughts on the matter. And thank you for listening to me. Edited July 20, 2012 by RiverBankNut 1 Ask me anything! Skullbuster 1,906 July 20, 2012 Share July 20, 2012 in a lot of cases, thats just not possible, the haters are so dense/ignorant that they wont listen to reason and wont stop to think about it its like asking a hardcore christian to stop beliveing in god, no matter what kind of evidence or what not you present to him, he will never change his belief system because they have it in their head that they are right 7 My Let's Play channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCy14-AEEHdfj5QQAlYtB1_A Need a guest Rapper on a song? talk to me!: http://mlpforums.com/topic/103097-guest-rapper-for-you/ NEW SONG:
NeverNeverland 1,940 July 20, 2012 Share July 20, 2012 I have my reasons for ignoring haters. Out of experience, any retort you would make to a hater would generally be ignored/repelled back to you, and getting into a fight with said hater would get you into a significant amount of trouble. Getting them to question their thoughts would be insignificant in this case - especially when you label them as 8-year olds which implies that they don't care about anything unless their amusement is furfilled first. So reasoning with them or questioning them will be just as ineffective as ignoring them. MY question is, why must you make haters relevant to you? Keyword being must. Juggler 345 July 20, 2012 Share July 20, 2012 I think that we should ignore them. In the South Park episode, Wendy couldn't get rid of Cartman. Here on the internet it's just a matter of walking away from the computer, turning off the comments on youtube, or something like that. And from my experience, most haters or in this case, Trolls, won't ever admit that they have been defeated. They will just keep changing subjects and so on. Titan Rising 2,156 July 20, 2012 Share July 20, 2012 (edited) Ignoring is the best. It makes them madder because they know that you're the better person and that you don't waste your time on people that have no intention of changing to begin with. Unlike them, because they'll waste bucket loads of time just to make fun of you for no reason Edited July 20, 2012 by Hollowshield
Colon Leftbracket 971 July 20, 2012 Share July 20, 2012 I usually say something to the extent of "to each their own" and leave it at that. Someone opposing is just as natural as someone liking it. They really aren't worth my time or effort to try and counter attack their arguments. Seems to work for me. [New siggy in progress!]

Keyword being must. well i never said they were eight-year olds, i said they act like ones on the internet, now im not sure if this is true, but i think they at least try to act decent IRL. and to answer your question, I've had problems with bullies in elemantry school 5 years ago and never once did ignoring them helped me, now, it might just be me specificlly but like I said, it's purely my opinion. well were not exactly "pin cushions" for hater if we simple not a bother to give them a second thought all this talk of not being punching bags to hater or dont feed them it all stupid,JUST STOP CAREING there only doing it to spark a reaction anyway. hell we most bronies can even accept cloppers not thats just retarded, dony knock it til you've tried it. I'm glad it works for you, but it doesn't work for me, once more all i write is just my opinion so obiously it's influenced from my experience. I'm just trying to get people to think about it. which i probably did. Ignoring is the best. Unlike them, because they'll waste bucket loads of time just to make fun of you for no reason Trust me, it won't make them madder, they will think they won, they will think you are weak for not trying. you need to understand that they don't think like us when it comes to reason. I mean specificlly getting mad or not. they won't get mad or get their senses straight if we ignore them. their mind or at least persona doesnt work that way (I think, I'm not a psychiatrist) Ask me anything! And yes they do want a flamewar, but in the end, if you try to stop them insted of trying to defend what you love, maybe it will be worth a flamewar. think about that. Cocodrillo 1,565 July 20, 2012 Share July 20, 2012 (edited) I haven´t been trolled about the ponies yet, but I´m often trolled about other stuff. I usually just type I didn´t ask for anything so why is he typing or something in that style. If he has a grain of sand if his head, it usually works and the troll gives up. Otherwise, he just signatures the verdict of death and I will use everything he types against him, for him to see how stupid his acting was. If he doesn´t give enough of response, I´m bored so I type some last words and I don´t care anymore. If a person doesn´t give you enough response, you don´t have enough of information to work with. I've had problems with bullies in elemantry school 5 years ago and never once did ignoring them helped me. Bullied for 7 years. Old formula worked just fine for me. What it seems like is ignoring a hater is the equivalent of ignoring a bully in your case, so as a result you need to make this important. And if I think I know how you're gonna respond to this, you don't need to, I already know: but like I said, it's purely my opinion.
