Flicker Sweet 3,391 July 23, 2012 Share July 23, 2012 I don't know if any of y'all have this problem, but I'll leave the forum for a while and when I come back I'll have some 80-300 notifications. It's a huge pain to read each individual notification but I don't want to just skim over them because I might miss something important. So here's my suggestion, what if there was a system where the notifications that were from the same thread all stacked into one. This way, instead of having 5 notifications each saying that a different member responded to a thread, there would be one notification that says, "5 members have responded to (thread name here)" What do you think? Does this make sense?

Zoop 8,384 July 23, 2012 Share July 23, 2012 We have very little control over the notification system, I'm afraid. Advice for managing notifications: 1: Assuming you have notifications for friend's status updates enabled, either turn it off or clean up your friends list so that it only contains people that you are interested in following status updates from. Looking at your profile, you have two pages of friends, which is going to generate a lot of status updates if you have that option enabled. 2: Follow fewer threads. Seriously, you don't need to follow every thread you post in - instead of following everything individually, use the View New Content button. It is an extremely useful little critter - it his highly configurable, to the point that you can make it show only threads that you yourself have participated in that have unread posts on specific boards of your choosing. Notifications are, in my opinion, not ideal in the least bit for following replies to threads. I personally have my notification options setup in such a way that I very rarely have more than fifty notifications per day, with notifications for quoted posts, friend status updates, replies to the numerous status updates that I've commented on, brohoofs, and similar. You have the power to control your destiny. But then why don't we just become My Little Facebook? Because that's what we're trying to avoid. I hid your post, by the way - bypass the character limit with actual post content, not 'clever' little tricks. Failure to do so may negatively impact your ability to post.
PegasisterTaco 318 July 23, 2012 Share July 23, 2012 That would be an EXCELLENT upgrade to the notifications buttons. For me, having to go through each individual notification is a PAIN for me. So to make things easier, I would totally support this idea. Life is an adventure. An adventure of mistakes, accidents, and misunderstandings. That's what makes life life. False Perception 482 July 23, 2012 Share July 23, 2012 (edited) -snip- It took you guys long enough to notice what I was doing. You might want to look back on all the posts I've made today and possibly yesterday. Fine then. I for one think this notification idea is good. I don't want to disable all of my notifs for statuses I've replied to just because someone thought it would be cute to RP 100 updates. I just want to disable that one. It's a rare occurence, yet not rare enough to not be a pain in the arse. Oh, and uh, My Little Facebook. This ain't a limit bypass bro. Don't ban me, bro. Shankveld 4,949 July 23, 2012 Share July 23, 2012 I don't follow threads for this reasons I never have and I still get quite the bundle of notifications to go through when I sign-on, especially after work x) ~
Founder Twilight Sparkle ✨ 8,526 July 24, 2012 Founder Share July 24, 2012 IP.Board's notification system unfortunately cannot accommodate the original suggestion without being completely rewritten. That's something that only IPS can do. However, if you find yourself being flooded with notifications of replies to a followed thread, an easy way to keep them manageable is to set that type of notification to go only to your email account. Most email providers/clients will stack the notification emails together. That's what I do, and is how I recommend you follow threads. 1 Avatar credit: robinrain8 Signature credit: Kyoshi
