Anything that I'd like to unsee? Goatse. If you don't know what that is, good. Don't find out. I know that you are curious, but please, don't Google it. It will be one of the deepest regrets in your life.

You have me so tempted to Google that right now. But your warnings seem pretty serious. :S

Oh, and I had no idea Catholic dial-up existed. That must have sucked horribly. o_O

I was between 4 and 6 years old when I started using the internet. Back then, I used Netscape. That makes me feel so old :P .

Goatse is extremely NSFW. I don't think I should even put a description of it in this thread, for the sake of the youngins'.

And yes, it did suck horribly. I remember constantly begging my parents to let us have faster Internet, lol.

I first went to youtube when I was 5. I had just learnt how to type a web address and how to crudely spell Youtube. I would watch Tom and Jerry vids on it. Since no one was supervising me, I did stumble onto NSFW stuff here and there. I basically taught myself how to use a computer, no one actually told me how to use the thing.

Am I addicted to the internet? OF COURSE I AM! WHAT KIND OF QUESTION IS THAT? There are so many wondrous things on the internet! Plus, my real life is boring so internet it is for me!

When did you start using the internet?

I was about 12 when we first got AOL. It was the most amazing thing ever, at the time.

Would you have rather started using the internet at another age?

Nah.

Are you addicted?

Definitely. It's like crack to me.

Anything you wish you could have unseen?

Many, many things...

Are you for censorship?

No, but I am for supervision and parental controls. There are things on the internet that no child should see.

Any funny internet stories?

Oh, yeah.

When did you start using the internet?

I've had a working computer since I was three years old (2000). I've been using the Internet for as long as I can remember, but I'd say five years old. I played a lot of games on the Internet, and that's about it :P

I didn't get involved in online communities until I was about 10 years old.

Would you have rather started using the internet at another age?

Not really, I don't have any regrets. Chances are, if I started at an older age, it would have taken me longer to adapt to the Internet and find the communities I'm apart of today. I wouldn't change the age I started using the Internet.

Are you addicted?

I really am. That isn't necessarily a bad thing though. I have met friends who I will treasure for a life time. Some of which I'm even closer to then people I know in real life. Online communities are great, and they teach you a lot of things about you and life as a whole. I'm glad to be addicted, even if I'm not as in shape as I'd like to be in real life.

Anything you wish you could have unseen?

Yes, many many things. I had spam emails sent to me at a young age (around 7 or so), with pictures of pornographic images. I've also seen nasty nasty things aside from that I will always regret. While I may not be as affected now, it certainly scarred me at young ages. Even now I sometimes bump into things I don't want to see. It's unfortunate, but you learn to see it coming if you are apart of the Internet for so long.

Are you for censorship?

No, and I'm not going further into my opinions on this, in the case it starts an argument.

Any funny internet stories?

Many, but I'm too tired to type them out :P

When did you start using the internet?

I got my first email account when I was 6 years old on AOL. I joined the KOL chat rooms and I was on those until they closed when I was 11, I think. When I was about to turn 13 I joined my first internet forum.

Would you have rather started using the internet at another age?

I kinda wish I didn't until I was a little kid older, but just a little bit. What's happened has happened, I can't change it.

Are you addicted?

A bit. xD I can spend all day on the computer just going whatever, but if I had to go a week without the internet, it wouldn't be the end of the world.

Anything you wish you could have unseen?

Slenderman, to name one. Other than that, I've clicked on enough links to know what's gonna lead me to something disturbing, and nothing bothers me that much anymore. Very rarely do I wish I had some eye bleach, but it would be nice to forget some of the things I've Googled...

Are you for censorship?

HAHA no. Absolutely not.

Any funny internet stories?

Indeed. I've been involved in lots of flame wars and trolling groups. Those were some good times.

Well I started using the 'internet' when I was like 5, back in 2001. I'd get on Cartoon Network.com and play games and such.

But my first encounter with the REAL internet (The one we all know and love today) was when I was about 11. I searched up 'Dragon Ball Z games' on Google, and found the DBZ collection on Newgrounds. Had my first encounter with porn in the first 20 minutes.

gg internet, gg.

When did you start using the internet?

I started using the internet regularly when I was around 9.

Would you have rather started using the internet at another age?

Nah. It's been awesome. I'm sure I needed the real life experience from before, however, so I wouldn't have wanted to start earlier.

Are you addicted?

Most definitely.

Anything you wish you could have unseen?

I'm barely touched by anything, but there are a few things I wish I could have unseen back when I saw them... I haven't always been as awesome as I am. There was a time Goatse scared me shitless. Not even kiddin'.

Are you for censorship?

By censorship we're talking about the huge ACTA/PIPA/SOPA and whatnot thing, correct? In some ways I do support it - I dislike online piracy (even if I do it myself) and would like it gone. However, the side effects of people in charge being ignorant of the internet outweigh the good sides by far, so I'll have to say no.

Any funny internet stories?

When I was still new to the internet I loved joining all sorts of random forums and communities, generally being an annoying noob as everyone has been. I did however make some friends and we did lots of weird stuff, including forcing the biggest Danish Pokemon website to close for months from our spam attacks. Then a few weeks ago I received a message from one of those guys I hadn't talked to for years. Kool stuff.

  • 1 month later...

(1)I started about the age of 11,(2) and I am glad I didn't start sooner.

(3) I am addicted to the internet, I would go slightly mad if I lost it. Xbox, Netflix, Web browsing, I use it for almost everything.

(4)Yes, there are things on the internet I wish my eyes could unsee.

(5)I am NOT for censorship. The Internet is for users to enjoy themselves and not to be constricted to do so. If there was censorship on the internet, Youtube would be almost completely blocked, and so forth....

(6) None currently ;.;

I started at 11 years old. Bearing in mind I was 11 in 1990 as I was born in 79.

I started on dialup BBS' and the original blue and yellow Prodigy...met my first penpal there and wrote here for years

I miss those old non-user-friendly days

I remember using macro and small-time hack programs on the original AOL...what a time

When did you start using the internet?

I started really using the internet around 13 years of age.

Would you have rather started using the internet at another age?

No I am pretty internet savvy as it is, it is not like starting earlier would make any massive improvements

Are you addicted?

Yes I am addicted, because most of my skills are internet related and I would feel pretty useless if I did not have it any longer. That is why the tv show Revolution is pretty damn scary to me.

Anything you wish you could have unseen?

Rule 36 of the internet "there is always more f*cked up sh*t then you just saw" pretty much sums up my experience with the internet.

Are you for censorship?

No, the internet is a great place for unbridled uncensored forms of speech, it is truly the first amendment in action. Even if you don't live in the USA

Any funny internet stories?

Yes but I would rather not dig around in my mind for some funny stories, there is just too many for me to choose one.

When did you start using the internet?

I started when I was really young. I used to go to TVO and fox kids to play games using shockwave. I found search engines much later when my dad introduced me to ask jeeves. It was mind blowing to me how big the internet actually was. If I may quote the end of Alan Wake; "It's not a lake, it's an ocean."

Are you addicted?

I'm more addicted to my computer itself rather than the internet. Sure, there are forums and my news feeds are constantly updating with the latest breaking news, but I love just tinkering with my operating system.

Anything you wish you could have unseen?

Yes.

Are you for censorship?

Of course not! I was very vocal about the SOPA issue, even though I am in Canada. I wrote my local MP about concerns of a similar bill like SOPA appearing here, which sure enough did.

Any funny internet stories?

Ohhhh yes. Pokemon Netbattle drama. That's all I have to say >_>'

When did you start using the internet?

I started using the Internet when I was about 8-9. Before that there wasn't much to do on the internet anyway. But even then, I could only go rarely and for short periods of times because we couldn't use the phone when we were on Internet.

Would you have rather started using the internet at another age?

No, I think it was a fine age to start using the Internet.

Are you addicted?

I guess so... I waste way too much time on the Internet...

Anything you wish you could have unseen?

Yeah, I've seen a lot of shit. I was dumb enough to look at goatse, lemonparty and some of that other shit. It's not very nice... Actually, it's absolutely disgusting. I'm serious, don't look it up, you'll regret it. The internet can be a very dark place.

Are you for censorship?

No.

Any funny internet stories?

nah, not really

Is it weird that I don't want to "unsee" anything?

I mean, I would rather see something weird/crazy/gross than just hear about it.

Yeah, I can't really think of any... Wait.

Oh god I can't stop thinking about trypophobia all of a sudden.

Damn you, internet.

3) Yes, but it doesn't really interfere with anything in my life anyway.

4) Unfortunately, thank god for repressed memories.

5) No way.

6) Yeah, but you wouldn't wanna hear 'em.

I was around 8 years old I discovered the vast world of the Internet. I had Earthlink as a provider and used to be an AOLer myself haha.

I also subscribed to my first forum, "The Super Mario Bros. HQ Forums" (which is probably now dead), and boy, were my posts just flat out bad. I must remember to smack my 8-year-old self with a ruler. :P

I began using the internet in what 2004, when I was 13? yeah, that seems about right. Hmph, still can't believe I never got caught at school for downloading porn on a regular basis.

What? of course I'm against censorship. If you wanna protect your kids don't use the internet as a damn babysitter and expect everything to be fine.

I was on the internet ever since I was 4, I've been playing MMO's ever since I was 8, and I had my first Computer at 10. And I've locked put my sister from my games since last week. Who knew parental controls work with your younger siblings?

1) Way back in 1996 with dial up using CompuServe. I was 12 back in those days. However, I didn't start using the Internet heavily until I was about 15. Man, I was just starting out with Red Alert around then.

2) Not particularly. I didn't really know much about it until I had it at home. I'd say I got it at the right time since it had only been available for a couple years when I got it anyway...

3) Not really. I spend most of my time on the Internet, but that's what happens when you're broke. However, when I have things to do, I do them... usually.

4) Again, not a whole lot really. A couple of things on 4chan's /b/ back in the day when it was awesome. Short of that, nothing really has any effect anymore.

5) Censorship is bogus. It needs to die.

6) Yeah, but not to any of you. Most of it was silly stuff on IRC, which, as the Bash quote says, is just multiplayer notepad.

Hmm... it's a tough thing to remember by. I started using the internet when I was around 5 years old and became more independent on the internet, even through AOL, even though I caused trouble around the chatrooms back then when I was around 10 years old, but hey, I couldn't help it because I was a child, didn't know anything better. :P
