How Much is a "Bit" Worth?

As far as I know, you can't say 8000 dollars as 8 kilodollars. We have the word 'thousand' for a reason

But then again, that's me and my head saying it :P

True, but im referring 8 bits as one byte, and one thousand bytes would be 1 kilobyte, making it 8000 bits.

But I see where you got confused. I mean like I noticed in MLP currency was called bits so I thought of

it as computer so 8 of them would be a byte and aprox 1000 of them would be 1 kilobyte. See where im

going? cool. I hope this helped you! :)

I agree with Star Weaver, also that they're not far enough in technology to have the words "Kilobytes", computers, or anything like that. (though they have arcade games  ) Relevency, I don't know. Equestria's logic goes against everything natural.

I know, but it is a strange coincidence. I like to think of it that way though. But I agree with you, Equestria does go against nature,

so bits, bytes, and kilobytes sorta make sence. But then again, I think it should stay simple.

Well, considering that 2 bits is a quarter -- 8 bits being a dollar, your initial inquiry is not all that far fetched. We had bits before 1794 but it was more a spanish thing -- Their dollar was referred to as a piece of 8 -- meaning 8 bits.

No

In computer term 1 kilobytes equal to 1024 bytes

And 1 megabytes equals to 1048576 bytes

That system would be damn confusing for market use

In other words, Thats why it would be aprox like 1000, and 1000000 and so on,

so it would be more simple. Unlike computers even though they are still awesome, also, I saw Twilight use the oldest

computer ever in the episode "Hurricane Fluttershy" I think its called.

Not saying it would be exactly Binary bits and so on.

I think the whole bit thing isn't related to computers. When I first heard it on the show, I first thought about the metal thing horses bite on that riders use to stir them. On the topic of value, I think it is suppose to be simple. Historically, human currency was simple but then got more complicated when things started to cost more (think about the old penny candies).

I think that it's 2 bits per dollar, and it keeps going up from there. 4 bits=2 dollars 6 bits=3 dollars and so on. That's my theory anyways.

Cool theory! can I expand it? with Kilo and so on?

Here goes!

2 bits=1 dollar

1000 dollars= Kilodollar

1000 Kilodollars=Megadollar

1000 Megadollars=Gigadollar

1000 Gigadollar=Terradollar

and so on, and this isnt only computer data storage measurements, its also measurements like 1 kilometer, Thats what I noticed about

computers also, They are related to other measurements, but are not exactly the same. I mean in terms of prefixes.

I should just drop the whole byte thing altogether anyway, I dont want to cause some

sort of Equestria-wide conflict between us bronies and all. Anyway, I was just pointing

out a strange coin-cidence about the currency (Get it? Coin-cidence?)

I'm guessing bits would be what we would prefer to as, "Cents". So if they would have 8 bits it would be 8 cents. I see this that way because in the episode: "super speedy cider squeezy 6000" Comet Tail mentioned bits as "cents".

I guess we proably won't know since they never use more then 20 bits or something.

Still I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be to complicated. I'd think it would just be 10 bits 100 bits 1000 bits so on. But I guess we won't truly ever know. Equestria hasn't been famous for following much logic :P

The recent thread regarding Equestrian currency was merged with an older thead about the worth of a Bit. The two topics are closely related enough to be in one thread.

Carry on. :)

I think its almost impossible to account for how much it costs simply because who knows what time period you'd base it off. A while back a dollar was worth alot more and the amount a bit can buy doesn't seem to consistent.

A cherry costs a bit, right? Just work from stuff like that.

one pound of cherrys is $0.99 to as much as $6 per pound.

and one cherry 3 - 7g.

and there is 453.592 grams in a pound.

there is about 90 cherrys in a pound

then one cherry is $0.01.

so a bit is 1 cent .

I guess Equestrian economy is really good, and inflation hasn't increased yet.

Maybe bits are actually really expensive. One bit can buy a lot.

I felt really bad for Spiderman. The man was just hungry. But this is really a question about Pony Economics. Why are apples so dam expensive. Apple Jack could have taken that dollar bill

Since your thread is talking about the value of money in Equestria as it relates to apples, I have merged it with this thread, which has a very similar topic.

I dont get it, a peach could cost 4 bits and a cherry 2. A peach is way more expensive then ONE cherry. How much is a whole BAG of cherrys?

keep in mind that their food supplies are totally different from our own, they're practically swimming in apples after all, you never know, cherries might be a delicacy in Ponyville, whereas they're incredibly common in Dodge Junction - there doesn't seem to be much traffic to/from anywhere but Canterlot so I'm guessing whatever grows in the local area is the primary source of food, and imports are rare

It's about three fiddy.

In all honesty, I remember the episode Putting Your Hoof Down. The bits for food were a 'bit' odd. Hurhurhrururh

Honestly, my headcannon is just that one bit equals one dollar. Maybe I'm just simple. /shrug

The thing is, you have to remember that their economy is not the same as ours. Maybe cherries are just that much more valuable in Equestria.
