My school stalks my facebook?

~Sugar Sprinkles~

Okay, so I have a study hall with my friends. And our school does allow cellphones in study halls, lunch, and in class when you need to use them for online usage. Now, I know some bronies hates facebook, but they also stalk Twitter, Tumblr, Myspace (which no one uses..), etc. So, I took 2 pics of my friends in study hall. It was all of us smiling and having a good time. I then posted it on facebook. Y'know? Cause they're all my good pals. My friend Allen took a quick vid our table. He then posted it on facebook. So...later on, my cousin (who is also in my group of friends) told me that Allen got in trouble. Apparently our principal found out. So Allen's phone was taken away, and he was in trouble. Then, Marissa said I needed to be talked to by him too. I was confused. I thought maybe someone told on us, but everyone in the school takes pics. Legit! So...why was I framed. Me, my cousin Marissa, and 2 other friends went to talk to talk to our principal. He was saying that kids under the age of 18 should not appear in pics without their parent's permission. Um...my friends and me were all smiling in the pic. And, wow...well anyways my cousin asked how he found out. He said and I quote "We monitor everything. Facebook, Twitter, etc. We found her pictures and Allen's video on facebook" WHAT. THE. FUCK? How did he bucking find it. I heard from many people, that that's kinda not right for a school to get on our facebooks, and watch what we do. My mom was so pissed and said if they look at my facebook again, she is suing. My friend said that in the middle school, if they catch you having drama, cussing, or using bad terms, you get a detention? Lol what? Facebook, twitter, tumblr, etc were not CREATED BY SCHOOLS.

So how would you like it if your school or people were stalking your facebook, twitter, tumblr, myspace (doubt that), MLP forums, etc? And getting you in trouble? Yeah, I was pissed...

My school does it all the time and I'm glad they do. One time, someone insulted my Math teacher because he had Arab origins. He got suspended one day after. People often get intimidated at school and it continues at home due to Facebook and all the other sites of the kind. But, school can find those and stop it right there, which can prevent suicides. Also, at my school, it's forbidden to take pictures of anything inside the school, you can get a detention if a photo or a video is found online. I use Facebook a little and it never seemed like I was spied by them. I'm okay with this, it prevents a lot of hate towards both teachers and students.

While it seems like an invasion of privacy its a good move for schools to watch over their students on social media on facebook. I dont know if you are friends on facebook with any of you teachers or what your friend filmed but the school does have the right to look through public social media and act upon it if need be. This may not apply to your situation but its the right move for many others.

I encourage you to enable your facebooks privacy settings same with your friends and borderline be careful what you post on facebook just for the safety of errbody.

I hope I helped

Umm your connected to their internet, which means they can monitor everything that goes on on their grounds.

Someone has told me this before...

It's not that, they were connecting using their phone. They weren't using the school's internet at all, rather they were using the plan that their parents were paying for.

I think it's awful that they are allowed to view your facebook and all, but no matter how hard you try to argue even the owners of facebook agree that until you are over 18 privacy really doesn't exist on your end. The old security guard at my high school had permission from facebook to check the accounts of anybody logged into the school network, regardless of whether or not they had their profile set to private.

Well, facebook is NOT an educational website, school doesn't run our lives. I dont feel comfortable with grown men looking through my facebook even if it's private. They are going through our private lives. That's kinda stalkerish and illegal. Mother told me

I don't think they would monter you out of school time only in school time. Though i like this idea as bullies on the internet are a problem with students so i can see why it can be annoying. But i see the useful side of it. Also suing a school for looking out for your rights is a bit much? Or maybe because i'm Engish and we sue like no one. If they pick you up on something you said outside of school i'd be like be pissed but in school they have a right to look after us.

Also my view is from somepony that wasn't allowed there phone at school and if you got cought with them you'd have them taken away so yeah ^_^;

I did change my settings yesterday after what mother told me. Invasion of privacy is kinda illegal in a way. It is stalking and i do not feel comfortable with that. Thanks though :P

Exactly. Facebook is not a school network. It is mobile for the world. And we cant be friends with teachers unless you graduate. Someone feels me, thank you!

THEY HAVE NO RIGHTS! IT'S INVASION OF PRIVACY! SCHOOL DOES NOT OWN THEM SITES, SO THEY DO NOT HAVE A RIGHT TO DO THAT! THIS WAS IN MY STUDY HALL. WE WERE ALLOWED HAVING PHONES

This is really all I was going to say.

It clearly states in MY student handbook that because we are now allowed to use all these kinds of devices, ALL net surfing is 100% monitored. On any site.

It doesnt say it in my handbook. They should not be able to do that. Especially on a cell phone. I was in study hall! where they allow them, not a classroom. My internet is connected to the tower in my town, not the school's building. Thank you very much! It is invasion of privacy -_-

Their grounds their rules. No reason to sue... besides if you have a problem with your school and their rules you can always ask your mom to put you in another school... -__-)

Well, school does not run my life. I am 18. I am an adult. I do not listen to strangers. And we have no money for that. Um, DUH! Seriously!

Yeah they allow them but they never said you could just go posting pictures on the internet.

They mean listen to music, watch funny videos, etc... -_-)

Today I got a paper from my school (It was given to everybody) informing them about how the school monitors us, I doubt they'll check everything we do, considering that our city is quite large, and only has 2 high schools which are way over-crowded, and since almost everyone is using their phones at the same time, during almost any class there's 10 kids on their phones, so I don't think they'll get me xD

....and they got a firewall which blocks out many site (The forums http://mlpforums.com/public/style_emoticons/default/dry.png ) so the only way I can see myself gettin' in trouble would be if I am watching certain vids in youtube xD

The teachers at mah school do something like that, but there's a catch. They can't see what you do under normal circumstances, although if you get into a site which is blocked by the firewall, it is recorded in the school's database and they can look at what site you were on that was blocked

My high school used to use photos and videos, ones taken by them and ones they got off facebook and other websites, to see which students watched a fight go down in our field*, as well as who instigated a massive food fight, and other things.

I've heard of schools letting students rent or borrow laptops, and then recording them with the webcam to see if they do drugs or have sex and stuff. It's pretty much complete bullshit.

As for it being illegal, that's a grey area. The same laws don't apply because it's not a crime being prosecuted or anything. And if they used video/photos to find out you were breaking rules (not saying you were, though. This is hypothetical) on school grounds, then that's pretty legal. Now, if they used video of you doing stupid stuff off campus and not during school hours and, say, suspended you, then that would be shakier. But school punishments aren't really legal territory. If you got suspended for a long period of time or expelled, then yeah, you could take them to court and possibly win if you had a good attorney, but getting detention or something isn't nearly as big a deal, and you can't really do anything about it except complain to the school. Or get your parents to, in my experience, schools cave to pissed off mothers pretty quickly :)

And I've always been of the opinion that you can't play the adult card until you live on your own, but that's just me :/

Also, employers do this kind of stuff all the time and it's totally legal, so get used to it :/

*I wasn't there personally, but it appeared on the show Most Daring. Video quality is poor since it's just Scott and his friends recording them watching the show. I knew Scott Le, he's a pretty cool guy, if a bit of a jerk at times.

Lucky. At my school, everything you did was actively monitored. They had tech people using virtual desktop software and stuff to see what you were doing every 15 minutes or so. And if they weren't it was all recorded for later viewing. Shit sucked :/

I can go on YouTube all I want . Unfortunately, I think this site may be firewalled, plus I can't go on Happy Wheels since it is firewalled also :(

Oh, and one more thing, I was listening to a certain song this morning, and watching some videos were certain things were mentioned, I'd be in hell if a teacher caught me watching them, but it was in the morning, as in, 7:30, I don't get out of school until 4:10 I think they'd tell me something by now. o3o

Something like this is a bit of a double edged sword. Yes it is a violation of privacy, but it also helps protect students from harmful postings. I have heard of things like this before, If I'm not mistaken if the post was made on school grounds then they can monitor but if was made at home or off campus then there is some legal issues.

Oh, I still did whatever I wanted. It took me about 3-4 days to figure out how to turn Vision off (that's what the software was called). The problem was, whoever was in charge of Vision could see my computer drop off the system, and it would still record everything I did up until turning it off, so I couldn't do it much without getting caught.

Wow that's fucking stupid.. I mean really.. I am so glad my school doesn't do anything like that. They should stop stalking your private accounts ;o About blocked things, my school doesn't block anything at all, haha. Not even pornsites or thepiratebay. lol. Though I always use the 3G network on the phone so I only use the school's with the school computer. But again, your school stalking your facebook.. That is messed up and you should do something about it to make them stop doing that.
