Arkane 270 February 27, 2012 Share February 27, 2012 Critics who treat 'adult' as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up. ― C.S. Lewis Happy is he who still loves something he loved in the nursery: He has not been broken in two by time; he is not two men, but one, and he has saved not only his soul but his life. ― G.K. Chesterton This is always my defense when I encounter anti-bronies.

Iris Melody 90 March 1, 2012 Share March 1, 2012 "Fools learn from their own mistakes. The wise learn from the mistakes of others." Pinkie Pie is my favoritest of the mane six for several reasons, but most importantly because she always has a good attitude. The others can doubt her, say somewhat unkind things, not believe her, and she just rolls with it. I also love her because her self-defined purpose in life is to make others happy. I believe her balloons cutie mark actually represents her uplifting others. Her amazing dimension bending and psychic powers are a factor, too When poor Pinkie Pie looses her mind, well, it is quite humorous. She has her own depression demons to fight, yet focuses on others. The world will be a better place when she succeeds in breaking that 4th wall! >
Vy'drach 133 October 2, 2012 Share October 2, 2012 Hopefully there's not a topic like this one, I couldn't find one. Anyway, tell me what your favourite quotes are, no matter the source. Be it words of wisdom, a hilarious outlook on life, a line from a book/song, whatever you want. I'll start with a few of mine. The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of the infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far. The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the deadly light into the peace and safety of a new dark age. That's from H.P. Lovecraft, and is the first sentence from The Call of Cthulhu. Now for another Lovecraftian quote. But by God, Eliot, it was a photograph from life. This line is the final line from Pickman's Model, probably my favourite Lovecraft story, and taken out of context may not mean much, but as the conclusion to the story, it is very powerful and ties up the story perfectly. 2 Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn

HAYAAAAAH!!!" -Tommy Oliver (I'll probably add some more if i think of any)

Vy'drach 133 October 2, 2012 Share October 2, 2012 "Seven six two, from me to you" - Christmas Patriarch. "But on this most auspicious of nights, permit me then, in lieu of the more commonplace soubriquet, to suggest the character of this dramatis persona. Voila! In view humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the “vox populi” now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a bygone vexation stands vivified, and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin, van guarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition. The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta, held as a votive not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. Verily this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose, so let me simply add that it’s my very good honour to meet you and you may call me V."
