Everypony loves music :) But what are some of the lyrics that really make you think? Which stand out to you and why?

"Everybody needs somebody". From the song Dareka Ga, by Puffy Amiyumi. To me, it's just a simple three words that become more and more true every time I listen to this song.

"We'll never know what fate will bring

And that's the mystery of living

The highs

The lows

And you can't change

How winds will blow

Or change the colors of the rainbow

So just

Let go"

From "Bring It On!" by Puffy Amiyumi (My favorite band lol) Tomorrow is always a mystery. You never know what the true potential of tomorrow is. Tomorrow can make or break dreams. Tomorrow you may find your special somepony, or give you second thoughts about your partner.

I made this topic a long time ago and it was ignored.

*sniffle*

I have a lot, but here are a few:

When you think the night has seen your mind

That inside you're twisted and unkind

Let me stand to show that you are blind

Please put down your hands

'Cause I see you

I find it hard to believe you don't know

The beauty that you are

But if you don't let me be your eyes

A hand in your darkness, so you won't be afraid.

~The Velvet Underground, "I'll Be Your Mirror"

Cuz there's no comfort in the waiting room

Just nervous pacers bracing for bad news

And then the nurse comes round and everyone will lift their heads

But I'm thinking of what Sarah said..

That love is watching someone die.

So who's going to watch you die?

~Death Cab for Cutie, "What Sarah Said"

They painted up your secrets

And the lies they told to you

And the least they ever gave you

Was the most you ever knew

And I wonder where these dreams go

When the world gets in your way

What's the point in all this screaming?

No one's listening anyway.

~The Goo Goo Dolls, "No One's Listening"

And as you were, you'll be again

To mold like clay, to break like dirt

To tear me up in your sympathy

You were never meant to belong to me

~The Smashing Pumpkins, "Crestfallen"

I'll post the rest later so I don't take up a whole page. XD

Thrice - Treading Paper.

"All my life,

I've been treading paper in the space between the words.

And there implied -

is that I'm but another body for the birds,

carrion, absurd and accidental atoms -

beating air, carrying on;

unwitting orphan of an unyielding despair.

But linger on, just for a moment,

until we can ascertain if something's wrong with me -

or the assumptions of these self-indicted brains.

Because I contend that all of this -

is more than just a meaningless charade,

that each and every moment is a bottle with a message hid away.

If anything means anything,

there must be something meant for us to be,

a song that we were made to sing.

There must be so much more than we can see.

But all our lives,

we've been treading paper in the space between the words.

And there implied's the thought -

that we are barely more than bodies for the birds, carrion.

They say that we're just accidental atoms beating air,

carrying on and on,

unwitting orphans of an unyielding despair.

But our hearts tell a different story,

our hands feel a different pulse.

If anything means anything,

there must be something meant for us to be.

If anything means anything,

there must be something meant for us to be,

a song that we were made to sing.

There must be so much more than we can see.

Something fathomless,

deeper than our pride can dive;

numinous,

higher than our hearts can rise;

transcendent,

further than our thoughts can reach;

immanent,

closer than the air we breathe."

To me it seems like Dustin Kensrue, who wrote the song, was trying to write a song about questioning his beliefs in God (considering Thrice songs are often religious). Lots and lots of meaning.

"Beating

Heart still beating for the cause

Feeding

Soul still feeding from the loss

Aching

Limbs are aching from the rush

Fading

You are fading from my sight

Break of morning, coldness lingers on

Shroud me into nightmares of the sun

Moving

I am moving closer to your side

Luring

You are luring me into the night

Crying

Who is crying for you here

Dying

I am dying fast inside your tears

Plunging towards bereavement faster yet

Clearing thoughts, my mind is set

Devious movements in your eyes

Moved me from relief

Breath comes out white clouds with your lies

And filters through me

You're close to the final word

You're staring right past me in dismay

A liquid seeps from your chest

And drains me away

Mist ripples round your thin white neck

And draws me a line

Cold fingers mark this dying wreck

This moment is mine"

From the song, Bleak by Opeth, on the album Blackwater Park.

While not traditionally what one would call meaningful, I feel as though this song shows that we are closer to each other than we think. One's actions can truly impact another's. It's all subjective though, but to me, this is as beautiful as poetry comes.

Five Finger Death Punch - Far From Home

Another day in this carnival of souls
Another night settles in as quickly as it goes
The memories of shadows, ink on the page
And I can't seem to find my way home

And it's almost like
Your heaven's trying everything
Your heaven's trying everything
To keep me out

All the places I've been and things I've seen
A million stories that made up a million shattered dreams
The faces of people I'll never see again
And I can't seem to find my way home

Cause it's almost like
Your heaven's trying everything to break me down
Cause it's almost like
Your heaven's trying everything to keep me out

Cause it's almost like
Your heaven's trying everything to break me down
Cause it's almost like
Your heaven's trying everything
Your heaven's trying everything to break me down
To break me down
To break me down

Your heaven's trying everything
Your heaven's trying everything to break me down

This song has touched me from the first time I heard it on the Radio. It just makes me stop and think about just about everything. That's why I love it. Edited by CrazyClay

Mumford & Sons ~ The Cave

So make your siren's call

And sing all you want

I will not hear what you have to say

Cause I need freedom now

And I need to know how

To live my life as it's meant to be

Serj Tankian ~ Left Of Center

Are we a fantasy?

Swimming in theocracy.

We are far from holy,

The wholeness of one.

Repeat after me.

We lost the key of sight,

Now blind we fear in flight.

We are far from love but silence is golden.

Please observe.

Fighting your empire.

Defending your vampires.

Far away, we're going too far.

Bombing your ignorance,

Defeating your insolence.

Far away, we're going too far.

We're going too far

Breaking Benjamin ~ Breath

I see nothing in your eyes,

and the more I see the less I like.

Is it over yet, in my head?

I know nothing of your kind,

and I won't reveal your evil mind.

Is it over yet? I can't win.

So sacrifice yourself,

and let me have what's left.

I know that I can find

the fire in your eyes.

I'm going it all away,

get away, please.

You take the breath right out of me.

You left a hole where my heart should be.

You got to fight just to make it through,

Cause I will be the death of you.

Linkin Park ~ Burning In The Skies

I'm swimming in the smoke

Of bridges I have burned

So don't apologize

I'm losing what I don't deserve

What I don't deserve.

Linkin Park ~ Waiting For The End

What was left When that fire was gone

I thought it felt right But that right was wrong

All caught up in the eye of the storm

And trying to figure out What it's like moving on

And I don't even know What kind of things I said

My mouth kept moving And my mind went dead

So picking up the pieces Nowhere to begin

The hardest part of ending Is starting again

And these are only a few. ;)

The spoken word on the Godspeed You! Black Emperor song "The Dead Flag Blues" is really a powerful look on the current state of the world, and how people are running themselves into the ground. Especially the power contained within some of the stanzas:

I said, "Kiss me, you're beautiful -

These are truly the last days"

You grabbed my hand

And we fell into it

Like a daydream

Or a fever

We woke up one morning and fell a little further down

For sure it's the valley of death

I open up my wallet

And it's full of blood

When you're rife with devastation

There's a simple explanation:

You're a toymaker's creation

Trapped inside a crystal ball

And whichever way he tilts it

Know that we must be resilient

We won't let them break our spirits

As we sing this silly song

When I was a little filly, a galloping blaze overtook my city

So they shipped me off to the orphanage. Said, "ditch those roots if you wanna fit in"

So I dug one thousand holes and cut a rug with orphan foals

Memories are blurred, and their faces are obscured, but I still, know the words to this song

When you've bungled all your bangles

And your loved ones have been mangled

Listen to the jingle jangle

Of my gypsy tambourine

'Cause these chords are hypnotizing

And the whole world's harmonizing

So please children stop your crying

And just sing along with me

Definitely.

Here are the lyrics for you:

Im searching through emptiness

And trying to forget all this pain

The light of the dark setting sun

Will bring my sadness to an end

Voices cry out through the fear and the doubt

As we wait for our lives to be better

The words are dying in the night

No winter lasts forever

The seasons pass and sunlight will shine on my life again

So let the past now burn down in flames

Locked in a prison

In a world of living fear

On the edge on my destruction marching on

Still suffer in darkness

The dreams of life not meant too be

As I lie awake and curse the rising sun

Sadness inside for the truth that she hides

And this pain in my heart for no reason

The words are dying in the night

No winter lasts forever

The seasons pass and sunlight will shine on my life again

So let the past now burn down in flames

The words are dying in the night

No winter lasts forever

The seasons pass and sunlight will shine on my life again

So leave the past behind

The dark clouds fading from my mind

The pain wont last forever

The seas and stars and sunlight will shine on my life again

So let the past now burn down in flames

Now burn down in flames

I like the theme of moving past your problems and not focusing on the past. It's honestly pretty moving to me, especially considering the music that goes along with it. (And the kind of music this band normally writes.)

A lot of Placebo lyrics. For me particularly Meds.

I was alone, falling free,

trying my best not to forget,

what happened to us, what happened to me,

what happened as i let it slip.

I was confused by the powers that be,

forgetting names and faces,

Passers by, were looking at me,

as if they could erase it.

Baby...did you forget to take your meds?

It reminds me of my 2010-2011.

So enjoy yourself, do the things that matter

'Cause there isn't time or space to do it all

Love the things you try, drink a cocktail, wear a tie

Show a little grace if you should fall

Don't live another day unless you make it count

There's someone else that you're supposed to be

There's something deep inside of you that still wants out

And shame on you if you don't set it free

Time- Pink Floyd

Kicking around on a piece of ground

In your home town

Waiting for someone or something

To show you the way

Tired of lying in the sunshine

Staying home to watch the rain

You are young and life is long

And there is time to kill today

And then the one day you find

Ten years have got behind you

No one told you when to run

You missed the starting gun

Sometimes theres no better way to put it.

2112-Rush

'... I have not left this cave for days now, it has become my last refuge in my total

Despair. I have only the music of the waterfall to comfort me now. I can no longer live

Under the control of the Federation, but there is no other place to go. My last hope is

That with my death I may pass into the world of my dream, and know peace at last.'

The sleep is still in my eyes

The dream is still in my head

I heave a sigh and sadly smile

And lie a while in bed

I wish that it might come to pass

Not fade like all my dreams...

Just think of what my life might be

In a world like I have seen!

I don't think I can carry on

Carry on this cold and empty life

My spirits are low in the depths of despair

My lifeblood...

... Spills over...

I love this part, it's honestly so emotional, and beautiful. Probably the most awesome story ending ever.

This would be one of many:

While My Guitar Gently Weeps, by The Beatles, from The Beatles album (1968)

I look at you all the love there that's sleeping

while my guitar gently weeps

i look at the floor and i see it needs sweeping

still my guitar gently weeps.

I don't know why nobody told you

how to unfold your love

i don't know how someone controlled you

they bought and sold you.

i look at the world and i notice it's turning

while my guitar gently weeps

with every mistake we must surely be learning

still my guitar gently weeps.

I don't know how you were diverted

you were perverted too

i don't know how you were inverted

no one alerted you.

I look at you all see the love there that's sleeping

while my guitar gently weeps

look at you all...

still my guitar gently weeps.

Turn away

If you could get me a drink of water 'cause my lips are chapped and faded

Call my aunt Marie, help her gather all my things

and bury me in all my favorite colors

My sisters and my brothers, still I will not kiss you

'cause the hardest part of this is leaving you

Now turn away

'Cause I'm awful just to see

'cause all my hairs are banded, all my body, all my agony

Know that I will never marry

Baby know I'm just soggy from the kimo

Counting down the days to go and just stay living

and I just hope you know

That if you say goodbye today, I'd ask you to be true

'cause the hardest part of this is leaving you.

Huh, I know that whole song by heart. 'Tis the song my uncle died listening to, in a very similar manner.

I have listened to quite a few songs that have touched my life but this is one of the ones that has really spoken to me the loudest because it is largely through the love and understanding of friends and family along with my own personal efforts that I have gotten to where I am today.

A Little Help From My Friends/The Wonder Years Theme Song originally by The Beatles though the Joe Crocker version is the best one

What would you do if I sang out of tune,

Would you stand up and walk out on me.

Lend me your ears and I'll sing you a song,

And I'll try not to sing out of key.

Oh I get by with a little help from my friends,

Mmm,I get high with a little help from my friends,

Mmm, I'm gonna try with a little help from my friends.

Do you need anybody?

I need somebody to love.

Could it be anybody?

I want somebody to love.

What do I do when my love is away.

(Does it worry you to be alone)

How do I feel by the end of the day

(Are you sad because you're on your own)

No, I get by with a little help from my friends,

Mmm, get high with a little help from my friends,

Mmm, gonna to try with a little help from my friends

Do you need anybody?

I need somebody to love.

Could it be anybody?

I want somebody to love.

Would you believe in a love at first sight?

Yes I'm certain that it happens all the time.

What do you see when you turn out the light?

I can't tell you, but I know it's mine.

Oh, I get by with a little help from my friends,

Mmm I get high with a little help from my friends,

Oh, I'm gonna try with a little help from my friends

Do you need anybody?

I just need someone to love.

Could it be anybody?

I want somebody to love

Oh, I get by with a little help from my friends,

Mmm, gonna try with a little help from my friends

Ooh, I get high with a little help from my friends

Yes I get by with a little help from my friends,

with a little help from my friends

  • 1 year later...

If I was gay, I would think hip-hop hates me

Have you read the YouTube comments lately?

"Man, that's gay" gets dropped on the daily

We become so numb to what we're saying

A culture founded from oppression

Yet we don't have acceptance for 'em

Call each other faggots behind the keys of a message board

A word rooted in hate, yet our genre still ignores it

Gay is synonymous with the lesser

It's the same hate that's caused wars from religion

Gender to skin color, the complexion of your pigment

The same fight that led people to walk outs and sit ins

It's human rights for everybody, there is no difference!

Live on and be yourself

When I was at church they taught me something else

If you preach hate at the service those words aren't anointed

That holy water that you soak in has been poisoned

When everyone else is more comfortable remaining voiceless

Rather than fighting for humans that have had their rights stolen

I might not be the same, but that's not important

No freedom till we're equal, damn right I support it

And I can't change

Even if I tried

Even if I wanted to

My love

My love

My love

She keeps me warm

She keeps me warm

She keeps me warm

She keeps me warm

Underneath this fragile frame

Lives a battle between pride and shame

But I've misplaced that sense of fright

This crown of thorns is perched atop my spine

But listen closely as I testify

Dependency has been a thief at night

Thief at night, thief at night

These Lyrics really mean something to me. I am who I am. And I can't change. Even If I try.

If you have any song lyrics or anything that really means something to you please post them in your reply.

I want to mean something and be something to everybody else. But that doesn't mean I change myself to do so. <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

Live to Rise - Soundgarden

What if all you understand

Could fit into the center of our hand?

Those words alone are depressing, but a moral could be described by just those lyrics.

Well, the translation nearly ruins it, but...

Joy, beautiful spark of the divinity,

Daughter from Elysium,

We enter your sanctuary, burning with fervour,

o heavenly being!

Your magic brings together

what custom has sternly divided.

All men shall become brothers,

wherever your gentle wings hover.

(And so on.)

Fourth movement of Beethoven's Symphony No. 9. If you know what the lyrics - and the original poem by Friedrich Schiller - mean, then you know that it's a song of unity. Not of plain "joy", hence my discomfort everytime I hear it in many movies as it's often simply misused.

Carry the wounded and shut your eyes
All will be forgiven, none will rise
Bury the fallen and lead the blind
I will find the lost... dead inside

Into the nothing!
Faded and weary!
I won't leave and let you fall behind!
Live for the dying!
Heaven hear me!
I know we can make it out alive!

[...]

I'll keep you inside
Where I lead you cannot follow
Straight into the light
As my breath grows still and shallow

[...]

Stay with me, you're all I have left
I know we can make it out alive!
Stay with me, you're all I have left
I know we can make it out alive!

I can definitely relate to the song... That is, that tendency I have to attach and hold on even if it ends up being self-destructive...

There are a lot of songs from Breaking Benjamin that I can relate to.
