I don't expect this thread to get many replies, but I still wanted to make it.There's another thread for bladed weaponry, about which I'm also passionate, but it stated clearly in the OP not to post guns. Well, fine. Be that way. This is the now the gun thread. To get things started I'd like to introduce you to my model 1895 Nagant, which was manufactured in 1943. It has a capacity of seven rounds.post-6104-0-67404500-1352761482_thumb.jpgThere's something really nifty about this old guy. It's a gas-seal revolver. Look at the gap between the cylinder and the barrel.post-6104-0-51611100-1352761633_thumb.jpgWhen the hammer is cocked, the cylinder moves forward, creating a seal between the two.post-6104-0-80097800-1352761840_thumb.jpgSo if you had a threaded barrel for this revolver it could be fitted with a silencer. Accuracy isn't fantastic due partially to the way it's made and also the amount of strength it takes to fire. This gun requires about 20 lbs of force to fully pull the trigger if you shoot it double-action, a little less if you use it single-action. Obviously the more effort it requires to pull the trigger, the more your hand will want to waver. You also have to be careful with how you position your index finger. I have a tendency to pinch it in the trigger guard when I pull the trigger, which once resulted in a blood blister.

That's awesome. I've personally never shot a revolver. I prefer pistols. I've shot a .22 ruger. There's a 9mm pistol lying around somewhere, but I've never shot it before.

Great thread topic! :D

I have a few firearms, but no handguns yet. I'm looking at getting a Sig Sauer P220 Sport in the future, once I get out of college.

Here's the epic gun in question (it's in the $1000 range, so it's not cheap by any means):

But look at that! It just looks...cool. I first saw it in the movie R.E.D. (Retired, Extremely Dangerous), and I've been in love with the weapon design ever since.

i have 3 at the moment myself. marlin 780 .22 bolty, first gun, cheap to shoot and about as much fun as you can have in a field with $20 worth of ammo. #2 is a old single shot 12 gauge shotgun, break barrel, nice wood furniture... kicks like an oxe. lastly, i have a mosin nagant 91/30, which i just picked up last week. havent had a chance to shoot it yet since ive been busy with other things, but im in the process of cleaning all the cosmoline out of the action and ordering some ammo. not paying local prices on 7.62 rounds.

Here's me with my dad's AR-15. Clip not shown because it was loaded at the time I took this picture and I'm not waving a loaded gun around, so I was either leave it out or unload it for the sake of a single picture.

Anyway, while all I personally own is a .22 rifle that I rarely use, my dad has plenty of guns that we like to shoot things with from time to time. My favorite is his .357 magnum revolver. That thing is a beast :)

Fabrique Nationale d'Herstal is perhaps most well-known for the FN FAL, the Five-Seven, and the P90. They're a Belgian firearms manufacturer supplying many military and civilian needs around the world. FN Herstal has a production facility right here in Virginia, in the town of Fredericksburg. Last year I bought an FNP-45, a pistol in their FNP series chambered for .45 ACP. It also comes in .40 S&W, .357 SIG, and 9mm variants. It came in this lovely carrying case:post-6104-0-45016400-1353348880_thumb.jpgpost-6104-0-22222300-1353348898_thumb.jpgpost-6104-0-56387500-1353348940_thumb.jpgIncluded with the pistol were three clips. Two of them hold 14 rounds, one of them holds 15.post-6104-0-85732200-1353349069_thumb.jpgIt came with a standard white three-dot sight configuration. Also available is a tritium night sight upgrade, but I really have no need of those.post-6104-0-28086500-1353349187_thumb.jpgThe frame is polymer and the slide is steel. Cocking serrations are located on the front and rear of the slide, with a rail on the bottom of the receiver for either a flashlight or laser-sight attachment. That little black object on the floor behind my hand is an additional backstrap for people with larger hands; I have no need of it.I have but one issue with the pistol, and that's the slide lock lever. I can easily push it down with my right thumb to release the slide, but no matter how hard I try I can't push it down with my left thumb. So if I'm shooting with my left hand and reload I would have no choice but to use my right hand to tug on the slide in order to bring it forward again. Removing the slide is as easy as it is with a 1911 model pistol. Simply rotate the takedown lever located at the front after the slide is locked to the rear and remove it.

I have a little 9 mm. I keep it only for defense at home. I'm a pretty good shot at the range with it too.

What I want is a shotgun and a high capacity 22 long rifle. I don't really speak all the lingo, but I do plan to carry concealed someday, and I haven't the foggiest idea what to carry. But that's my fault, I never even researched it online as its a "someday" wish.

I've always been jealous of you guys with all the cool toys. But I'm still poor and saving up for my electronic furniture. I find its a lot easier to save up for something than to buy on credit and pay off later.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOh! I wish I was at home right now, I would consider posting my rifle up on this board. Later though...

I also wasn't aware that we had a knives topic, which I can contribute to once I get home.

Where is this knife topic?

Hahaha. I thought I was a minority, having equal passions for firearms and MLP. Wow.

In terms of current manufacture FN, and Beretta with their PX4 Storm, have been the most intriguing.

In terms of last century, I like my war guns!

I personally surprisingly don't own a piece, which is somewhat understandable because I live "in socialist California." Plus, got to watch my funds until I get by BA and career.

Lately the old Soviet stuff like your Nagant @Artemis have been in my sights (zing). They are relatively inexpensive but by God they can take a beating. The Tokarev with its hot 7.62×25mm round is my current fav.

The Walther (also produced by Mauser) P-38 though, is my favorite handgun of all time.

Automatics aren't really my thing. I'm more of a revolver guy. However, there are certain automatics that appeal to me for one reason or another, the FNP series and 1911s being among those few.

I'm not an expert on guns,

Since I don't own any shotguns and have actually never even fired one before, I can't give you any kind of advice in that department. As for the .22 rifle, all I would advise you to do is buy a Marlin. Marlin makes some of the finest rifles in the world, especially when it comes to lever-action guns. Two years ago they were bought by Remington, but I haven't heard any reports of a decline in quality, so look to Marlin for that .22. In my cabinet is a single-shot, bolt-action .22 Marlin that my grandfather had since the early 1930s and it performs perfectly, just like it did on the birthday he received it.

When it comes to carrying a concealed pistol, that's more a matter of personal preference than anything else. Buying a weapon is a very personal thing. I would much rather have a revolver than an automatic. Maybe you wouldn't. That's the first thing to determine, then find the caliber that suits you best. For me it's .45 ACP in automatics and .45 Long Colt for revolvers. Then look up reviews, preferably video reviews, of several guns in that caliber, and after narrowing your options make sure to handle each gun in a store before buying. It's an important enough decision to warrant the hassle. The only universal constant for anybody looking to buy a gun for carrying is not to go the cheapest route possible. Remember, you're entrusting your life to that thing's performance, so stick with brands you've heard of and can trust.

You have the right idea by not buying anything on credit. Even a fairly cheap purchase that you could be done with in a month or two can become quite the investment if some unexpected tragedy empties your wallet. Interest on anything is ridiculous these days too. Having just paid off my school loan this past July, let me tell you that there are few things in this world that feel more oppressive than debt. Keep in mind that you can also find some very good used guns for substantially less money than a new one, and even some very good new guns for a lot less than you would expect if you know where to look.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOh! I wish I was at home right now, I would consider posting my rifle up on this board. Later though...

I also wasn't aware that we had a knives topic, which I can contribute to once I get home.

Where is this knife topic?

Here. It's for "bladed/exotic weapons" and the only stipulations were no guns or commonplace pocket knives.

Hahaha. I thought I was a minority, having equal passions for firearms and MLP. Wow.

I think we are in a minority. I'm just glad I haven't been harassed by the anti-gun crowd.

I personally surprisingly don't own a piece, which is somewhat understandable because I live "in socialist California." Plus, got to watch my funds until I get by BA and career.

That's one of the few things I like about Virginia. We're a very rural state with lots of backwoods people and hunters so guns are part of the culture. Some hoity-toity people moved into Bumpass one day (yes, that's a real place), which is as redneck and remote as a place can be in this state, and complained to county officials about the noise caused by occasional gunfire. They even went so far as to propose a bill that would prohibit people from shooting on their property and force them to go to a range. It was unanimously rejected.

Cost is an understandable concern, especially since you're in school. I don't know what you want exactly but you should be able to find something affordable. A surplus WWII Mosin Nagant rifle in good condition can be had for about $90, the same goes for a Nagant revolver.

Lately the old Soviet stuff like your Nagant @Artemis have been in my sights (zing). They are relatively inexpensive but by God they can take a beating. The Tokarev with its hot 7.62×25mm round is my current fav.

I used to own a Makarov too but I sold that to an old neighbor of mine who had desperately been searching for an authentic Russian specimen. Not long after selling it to him I developed "seller's remorse," but he's carrying it for protection whereas I was just wanted it for novelty's sake, and he absolutely loves the thing.

There's a Mosin Nagant in my gun cabinet I may have to drag out for this thread. It's not in great condition but it's serviceable.

I own so many guns I literally have entire rooms with guns covering the walls. I'm a collector and I inherited a lot of the guns from my father when he passed away. I collect all kinds of weapons, not just guns. But yeah, mostly I collect handguns but I have about three rifles and an SMG. I'd post pictures but I could possibly fill an entire page with pictures of my guns.

What I don't really understand is why on earth are so many bronies gun freaks? I can understand if you need them for work or for sport, but to me, owning a whole bunch of weapons comes across as over compensation or insecurity.,, but that's just me. It's even worse if u have kids, cos u never know when one may 'borrow' a weapon and use it.

Why the hell r so many bronies gun nuts as well? I just don't get it... I'm not one of those pansies who say 'guns kill people' but really, I don't see the point in them. Meh

I collect them for decorations, and historical value for the older ones. Also guns are fun to shoot on a range. Very fun indeed. The only gun I didn't enjoy firing was the Glock 7 which really was just kind of a bad gun. My father used it when he was military police and he didn't enjoy it either. I don't know how to explain it but firing a Glock 7 didn't feel right.

its the rush of adrenaline as the gun snaps, the push in your shoulder as it recoils, that split second where your sight blacks out and you cant hear shit as it goes off. catching a moment when the sunshine reflects off the spent casing as it tumbles through the air. the satisfying *PING* of lead on a metal target in the distance.

shooting can be a fun challenge as well. me and my shooting buddies often set up games when we are on the farm, such as shooting at full c02 cylinder at 100 yards with a .22 bolt action. of course, i find bolt actions are be more fun in general. i also drive a stick shift car, so i have that mechanical connection between the two. shifting gears and working a bolt. both extremely satisfying for some reason

ive never killed anything with any of my guns either, just cans/bottles/targets/etc

As far as I can tell there aren't a lot of us. For the sake of not being rude I'll answer this time, but this isn't the thread for this kind of discussion. The point of this thread is to share pictures and tales of the guns we own, not to discuss the implications of gun ownership at home and in society at large. There's another thread kind of dedicated to that purpose already. Please keep any further discussion of that nature over there.

Security is part of it. I do own guns and other weapons because I don't want to live in an insecure house or walk through insecure cities without a weapon on me. You could also consider it a sporting thing because target shooting is something I do for fun, and it's therapeutic in a way; the feeling some people get from figuring out Sudoku or putting together a massive jigsaw puzzle isn't entirely unlike the feeling of lining up a shot with a miniscule target downrange and putting a bullet through it.

Lastly, kids should be introduced to guns at a young age. Most kids abuse guns because they look at them with a sense of wonder, as some supremely powerful and forbidden artifacts. Remove the mystique by teaching them the proper use of guns and gun safety from childhood and they'll look at guns as being no more remarkable than a kitchen knife. And any sensible parent would forbid their kids to mess with the guns unsupervised and would keep their guns inaccessible to them anyway. That's what gun safes, gun cabinets, and pistol cases are for.

I wish I could get them all together for a picture, but I have half in North Carolina at home and then I have a couple here.

I've got a 12 gauge and 16 gauge shotgun, Remington.

A .22 back home, very old bolt-action

I've got a Mosin Nagant, 1946 Soviet rifle

.45 caliber Hi-Point carbine, little plastic fun gun.

(I'll be fair and not mention the military weaponry side :P)

This is my kind of thread. Unfortunately, I can't post pics but my family is full of hunters and people from different branches of the military and police force.

For hunting, we have

  • 2 Mossberg pump-action 12 gauges
  • Browning BLR .300 WSM rifle
  • 3 or 4 bows
  • Pellet gun
  • Remington .22 rifle
From military/ law enforcement (some of these are issued, not owned)
  • M1 Garand
  • M16 of some sort, whichever they used in 'Nam :P
  • M4 Carbine
  • MP5 sub-machine gun
  • G17
  • Colt M1911
  • .38 revolver
  • .308 sniper

We like our guns :P

Don't call us freaks, please...

Some people just enjoy guns, and it isn't over compensation. I'd rush to say that it's mostly just a big American thing, but it really is.

It's only worse if you own guns and have kids and disregard proper safety measures, like properly locking up your weapons, or teaching your children proper safety.

As for me, I own a Ruger Gunsite Scout in .308 and a Marlin 1895 GBL in .45-70. I'd like to pick up an AR-15 later on one day.

im jealous of your 1895. i really want a chance to shoot one someday, maybe even take on ownership if money ever allows. i love lever actions, and i love big bore lever actions even more.

i think my current top 3 "wants" would be a 1895, a Finnish produced Mosin-Nagant with the pretty tiger striped wood stock, and a Saiga 7.62 converted to take AK mags and retrofitted with AK wooden furniture. something about wood stocks... i just love them.

speaking of which, i think i might need to visit the local gun shop and browse their used rack. i think i might be in the market for a Lee-Enfield in the near future.

Expect to pay a pretty penny for that Enfield. Worth it to me though. I'd love to own an Enfield and a Garand.

The Nagants aren't terribly hard to come by and don't cost much. Finding ammo and at a reasonable price is the tricky part. Gun stores don't often carry the caliber they use, not even massive ones like Bass Pro Shops. You'll either need to buy it online and pay a fortune for it or wait until a gun show rolls into town and buy some Soviet surplus from an old guy in a plaid button-down shirt. That's how I get most of my foreign ammo.

2 Mossberg pump-action 12 gauges

I've had my eye on one of those. My nearest gun shop always has at least two of them used but in great condition on sale for about $250-$300.

7.62x54R is cheaper then .303 british atleast, but not by much. seems the average going rate is like 400-450 rounds for around a buck and a quarter. lil pricy initially, but it wont go too fast with a bolt action. i rather buy in bulk anyway, since i shoot 2-3 times a month for an entire afternoon. wouldnt have any issues going through a spam can once a month lol.

the price of admission on a Enfield is completely worth it to be able to stroke that bolt after every single round. nothing is smoother and feels so perfect. i passed up a Enfield copy a year ago, infact. the bolt was too sloppy, the stock was beat to shit, had a reproduction side mount scope on it, etc. im patient about my gun purchases, and it always pays to wait for "the one" to come along.
