7.62x54R is cheaper then .303 british atleast, but not by much.

Sorry, I got a little confused. I was thinking of 7.62x38 for a Nagant revolver. You're right about the 54R. That stuff isn't too expensive especially when you consider it's going to be used in a bolt-action gun. It's easy to find too. Most gun stores charge around $20 for a box of 20 rounds here. I went to a gun show and paid $150 for a can of 750.

Drop $100-120 on a mosin, another $100 on a spam can of ammo (420 rounds) then shoot all day. seems like a good deal to me, and id jump on it this week if i wasnt about to spend $350 on a cylinder head rebuild.

soon....very soon.

Ah, a gun thread!

I currently own an old .22 LR tube-mag semi-auto rifle, an old .410 single-shot shotgun. Both of my firearms are rather old, and irreplaceable.

I want a Kar98K.

To be totally fair I've never really shot many guns.. I mean I've only shot a pistol once or twice, And a BB gun if you count that :P.

To be honest firing a gun kinda freaks me out, I know I'm such a weakling :P. Sorry but the kick always makes me feel uneasy.

I'm sure though if I had to I wouldn't be all that intimidated by a gun. Still being the scaredy cat I am right now, they tend to still freak me out a bit :P.

Imagine what I'd do if I tried to shoot a shotgun.. lol.

lol, if my camera worked at the moment :P

I'll just list what we have...

12 gauge combat pump shotgun

two 9mm

.32

3 compound bows

3 katanas

2 machetes

EDIT: and a .45 auto

I'm teaming up with you in the event of a zombie apocalypse or changeling invasion. My Air rifle alone isn't enough to stay safe.

I've had my eye on one of those. My nearest gun shop always has at least two of them used but in great condition on sale for about $250-$300.

Ah, good choice. It's a good weapon, and I don't think it's too costly. It's pretty good with both buckshot and slugs, so if you plan on hunting with it you won't be disappointed.

That finish (no pun intended HA) and wood is exquisite @sks_burns on that Mosin.

The Enfield is one of the finest bolt action rifles. I would love to acquire one myself too. I got to say though, the Model 1898 Mauser and its later carbine the 98k is a superior design. It was manufactured in so many countries because of this, and the old U.S. M1903 Springfield owes a lot to its design.

These classics make me miss the days of our army carrying battle rifles, as opposed to weapons chambered for the basically ultra packed .22's (I am of course taliking about the 5.56×45mm NATO) the AR's use. I can't tell you how many combat veterans Vietnam and forward held that round in contempt. Of course there are naturally fans, but I would pick its big brother 7.62×51mm NATO any day.

superiority comes down to who you talk to, lol. some will say Mauser because its been copied so much, but just as many people were copying the Enfield action. i just love the action on the Enfield more, its short and quick, like a sport shifter on a performance car.

ive always disliked the .223 round, nothing against it... but people believe its something special when its just a .22 bullet with a hot load behind it. its almost ironic that i dislike the .223 when im such a big fan of .22 rifles. ive i ever build an AR, i think im gonna go with an upper chambered in .308 or a similar sized caliber. .50 beowulf is tempting too, but thats not ammo i can easily aquire locally, which is a drag since i enjoy saying Beowulf as much as possible lol.

speaking of guns we want, im considering a black powder rifle as a future purchase. i like the idea of manually loading the rifle and having more of hand in the operation of the rifle. theyre cheap and look like fun, so once my truck is fixed, i think im gonna jump into BP rifles.

The Mosin packs more of a punch than the Mauser (Gewehr) and accuracy is more or less the same. I have an 1888 model Gewehr. The Gewehr does have an advantage in being lighter but it's much faster too. Mauser's bolts are much easier to cycle than those found in Mosins and the safety is easier to engage and disengage. But personally, I prefer the balance and length of the Mosin.

any pics of your Gewehr? honestly, almost all bolts are easier to cycle then the Mosin. the straight pull style is a bit finicky and puts your hand in a weird position after cycling it, or atleast thats my feelings towards them after shooting one. doesnt change a damn thing though, since i still want one lol.

i should be banned for posting porn, but heres some.

Honestly, I'm here because it involves guns. :P But really, my dad used to own two 9mm and a lots of rifles at another place. One 9mm was stolen (whoops!) and he sold the other one. This is a great thread, and you guys totally know what you're talking about!

A firearm thread!

Awesome.

I'm currently in the market for one of the light weight polymer handguns.

Mostly, I get tired of carrying a 1911. That thing is like 42oz empty, and the one I usually carry is a steel frame, so thats one big hunk of metal. :(

Mostly, I carry it because I fully trust my 1911, and after god knows how many tens of thousands or rounds down range with it, I'm pretty comfortable with that style of pistol.

But again... Heavy....

I was looking at the Walther PPQ. It's a pretty cool looking little firearm. Thus far, all the reviews i've seen and all the comments i've read all state, "this is one awesome pistol"

Think i'm gonna get it in 9mm just so it's cheaper to shoot. and it only runs something like 6-700 bucks. That sounds pretty good to me.

cat_page_ppq_tech_lg.jpg

I might Also do an AR build this summer. If I do, I'm gonna chamber it in 5.45, just because it's dirt cheap.

I really want an AR pattern rifle, Even though I could buy an ak74 in 5.45 for a few hundred bucks less than it would be to build an AR.. ARs are just really cool rifles!

Plus, I already have enough ak pattern rifles haha.

I own a Nagant revolver also. They are really interesting weapons. The only widely successful gas sealed revolver ever developed. The ammunition is hard to come by though. I have never found it anywhere but the internet.

(also an interesting fact, The Nagant model 1895 gas sealed revolver is the weapon that spawned “Russian Roulette”  The free rotating cylinder allowed one to rotate the cylinder without having to manipulate the trigger or hammer mechanisms.

This meant you could put one cartridge in the cylinder, close it, and then rotate it with your hand without having to actuate the hammer or trigger.)

There's an interesting, (If not somewhat disturbing) little historical factoid.

The only reason I own a Nagant revolver is for the historical value haha. The ammo is to expensive, it’s next to impossible to fire it double action, it’s not very accurate, and it’s hard to load, unload, cock the hammer for single action, and get a good sight picture from the old irons.

But it’s an interesting little thing. And for only around 150-200 bucks after tax and transfer fees and whatnot. It’s an affordable little piece of history.

A buddy of mine has a Walther P99. I have shot it and it feels amazing. That gun is like an extension of your arm. The P99 runs around $400 to $500.

Let's see here.

Sorry, too lazy to pull out the camera for a group photo, so I'll post links from where I gunstore.

Taurus PT140 Millennium Pro. Mag release is uber sensitive, but overall great little gun.

Model 72 Ithaca Saddlegun. Dad's rifle. Made is West-Germany.

i got the wild style, always been a foul child, my guns go boom boom, your guns go *click clack*

oh, that reminds me. while i was pony shopping at wallyworld, i ended up buying a new scope for my Marlin. nice lil Bushnell for a mere $30. looks awesome of my .22, and it shoots straight and true like its suppose to. much better then my old optics. i havent put much into this lil tackdriver, just a sling and ammo, so this is the first real upgrade to make it shoot better.

Haha I have actually given some serious thought to making a functional starcraft marine rifle. It wouldn't be that hard to make a metal body that fits onto an ak pattern rifle.

Truth be told though, I'd rather have it in something like 9mm para.  there are a lot of 9mm "handguns"  out there. I bet an mp5 series would turn into something fun.

Haha but there are already some really crazy starcaft looking firearms out there though..

like the UTS 15..

gotta consider the legality of making homemade weapons. you have to retain all the serial numbers from the original weapon's action  and incorporate it into your conversion if you intend to keep it legal. could always start with ol reliable and use a Ruger 10/22 action, then build whatever you want around it. 22 cal isnt anything spectacular, but the action is compact and the rounds are cheap. more fun for less.

theres alot of laws that come with custom weapons, especially sci-fi style stuff. theyre not limited by barrel length or overall length of weapon, so you have to consider that as well.

Oh yea, There are some restrictions on prefab weapons. I've built several firearms in the past, and I feel pretty good about keeping things on the level at this point.

You can actually build any firearm you want (aside from fully automatic ones) so long as you have no intent to sell it.

And you'll need to make a reciever. You can buy pre cast recievers, but you still need to mill them out.

All you need is to build the reciever, then you can buy a barrel, trigger, ect.. put it together and boom. You have a legit legal firearm.

Most of those don't have serial numbers, because serial numbers are for selling.

It's a really rewarding thing to build your own rifle, (if not a little expensive)

But uhh... Just to cover my butt.. LOOK UP YOUR LOCAL LAWS AND RESTRICTIONS.

i have plans to build a .50 caliber single shot bolt action rifle, and it looks like fun. however, i dont know anything about milling machines or turning lumps of metal into weapons of minimal destruction. would be fun to learn though, just need a whole lot of raw metal and an m2 barrel lol.

Well, I can say am the proud owner of an AT4. Bought it off some guy in a shifty building. Didn't cost me a lot though, just my kidney.

I keep it loaded at all times, it's in my shed, in case of a zombie invasion. Can never be too careful, especially when living under an airport. I'm glad I live in a country with strict laws against this, means my neighbours have trouble getting one themselves. I don't wave it around too much, flaunting it. At least I am safe to know my friends and enemies fear me.
