mega thread What book are you reading?

Fridge

Recommended Posts

Just wondering what books you lovely people are currently reading? Any you recommend perhaps? And what do you think about it?

At the moment I'm reading a book called 'The God Emporer Of Didcot', its one I picked up in a charity shop recently and had to buy it simply because of the cover.

So far its not too bad, fairly funny and well paced. But it does feel like its missing something, not sure what. Anyway its a stop gap until I get my amazon order for the next in the Thursday Next series.

Oh and I did a quick search and couldn't find anything about this so I'm sorry if there's a thread already existing.

Umm, I am currently reading Skulduggery pleasant, kingdom of the wicked.

And my favorite book watchers.

Sadly I have never have read a comic book in my life, even though I have a couple first edition rage comics in my shelf.

Right now I'm reading a novel. It's called "Dead is not an option". It's a fairly good book though, I'm more than halfway through and it's just getting started on the action. I would reccomend it. But, you should probably read the first four before, I just skipped them, so now i'm on the fifth. And I am waiting for the first "Fullmetal Alchemist" manga to show up in my local library. I've been waiting for it for like, 2 months. I've never read them though I've heard npothing but, good reviews on them. So I would say you should probably read them. And I've wtached the first series of the show, the series though, the manga was not finished when they created it. So, if you would like to watch the manga's following show, I would tell you to watch "Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood". Not, "Fullmetal Alchemist" if anyone's interested in that, I will be posting the storyline of the show on my page. Only the basics of what happened, not the whole thing. I don't want to ruin it, or do I?? http://www.google.com/imgreshttp://www.funimation.com/fullmetal-alchemist-brotherhood

I'm just glad someone took time to reply. Most people ignore me or "computer scream" negative comments at me. :( Anyways, Tthanx for actually reading AND giving a POSITIVE feedback.

For school I'm reading Their Eyes Were Watching God. Got about four pages in before I had to put it down. This will be the first book I've ever put down with the intention of never finishing it. The dialogue is just so painful for me that I can't get more than a couple sentences before having to pause and watch reality television to remember what the English language actually sounds like.

For fun I'm reading an H.P. Lovecraft anthology, three science fiction short story anthologies, The Odyssey, and an alternate-history short story anthology.

Ah your welcome. I felt I should reply really, espcially since you spoke about one of my favorite anime's besides Cowboy Bebop and Ghost In The Shell S.A.C.

H.P Lovecraft? Damn I love his stuff. Although his idea of horror doesn't really stand up todays standards really I love the way he makes it all so very menacing.

Does Manga count? I'm reading Elfen Lied and I just finished Inuyasha lol

But for books, I'm reading this gigantic book called Atlas Shrugged and I'm only halfway done... I paused it for like a week now, I need to get started again tomorrow. Afterwords I'm thinking I wanna read 20,000 leagues under the sea

12 reccomendation to read that series so far! It must be awesome. Maybe I should read it online, no wait for whoever to return it to the library! Thank you for saying that, I wouldn't've ever thought the first word of it! Maybe I'll start reading Naruto after I finish FMA. And just to waste more of ur valuable life, when I first discovered FMA, I was 8. Then I watched the whole first series at 11. Now I'm reading the series. BTW4NR the show messed up my eating and sleeping habits! I wolud stay up until about 5:00am and wake up at like 8:00am and watch until the same time that morning. And for eating (when I ate that is) I would only eat like a small snack. And that was like hmmm, once, twice a week? IDK how I survived honestly.I had a schedule for when to break to the restroom. A RESTROOM SCHEDULE!!!! Although, the show was worth it. And most of us who watched it remember the saddest part. :( For those who don't know it or remember it look up "Nina Tucker's death" on youtube. May contain some traces of spoilers. Or an Amnesia quote... "Traces may contain product of pony....."

Of course manga counts :)

Atlas Shrugged, I've been told its a really good book. Its one in a list of them I've yet to work my way through,

I don't usually read books but i decided to try something from the Halo universe. I've started reading 'Grasslands' and hopefully i'll make it through that and finish the second book 'The Thursday War' as well.

Thats usually how the reading bug starts lol

You read something directly related to something else you like and it just grows. Seriously I went from playing Warhammer to reading Terry Pratchett in no time flat and I just started picking up other authors from there.

Yeah it's a pretty open ended ending. The manga of Elfen Lied is very close to the anime so far, I'm only about half way through it though. There are little details here and there that aren't included in the show, and there's a bit more nudity and stuff like that, but if you really liked the anime like I did you might want to read through it real quick

I think it is a very good story, whether or not you buy into her philosophy. It can definitely be a bit tedious though lol

to read which series? Naruto? to be honest, I'm not a huge fan of it, its definately better to rea than to watch, Like Tsubasa Resivoir Chronicles OVAs, you watch the animated bits to see the characters you like do thier more awesome stuff in animation, or to clarify confusing parts. Nina's Death was horribly sad! And as for messed up sleeping/eating habits, I've had those since day one...Correct it while you're still young dude, while you still can!

"Hmm...traces of pony"... sounds like something the Joker would do to one of the Mane six on a Dark night..YES I WENT THERE!!! BWAHAHahahaha!!!!

My list of books to read is getting bigger it seems... Good, I like having plenty to read and this series sounds interesting enough for me to put a bit of time into.

Well, I'm not currently reading anything, but I have many to start/finish. First off, I'm about halfway through Les Miserables (the unabridged edition), I have to read The Mark of Athena, the fourth (or fifth, can't remember) installment in the Lost Children series, The Oath by Frank Peretti, as well as many classics that I haven't yet read (Beowulf, Count Dracula, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, and Don Quixote to name a few).

I'm also kind of a weirdo, so I want to read The Prince by Machiavelli, The Art of War by Sun Tsu, and Plato's Republic.

I also find that I enjoy Shakespeare's plays.

The only problem is that I have so much homework, which I should be working on right now...

Aka: he's reading the ending of the Erigon series, right?

Who's your favorite dragon? I honestly felt the ending was a bit weak for all the build up it got, but that's just me. no spoilers for you!

Glaedr is my favorite, being the wisest of the four dragons I know of so far and how he also goes through some pretty tough trials.
