I finally gave in and started reading the Hobbit and LOTR series. Always late to the party... I'm only a few chapters into The Hobbit but it's actually very charming so far, Tolkien does a great job of making the Hobbits' lifestyle seem like a true fantasy.

Lately I've begun reading plenty of fantasy books. At the moment I am going through 16 books long Realm of The Elderlings by Robin Hobb. I am on the last book, Assassin's fate and honestly, if someone is in for a slow, but very emotional ride these series are perfect. Certain events left me literally in tears, the world while seems to be relatively small in first trilogy quickly gains in size and Fitz and The Fool are ultimate soulmates.

Next in line already is Stormlight Archives by Brandon Sanderson. I've read polish translation before, but since I wasn't fan of it I got all the books in english for rereading :3

Skaistās (The Beautiful Ones), Inga Gaile

Not all the way through, but not particularly appropriate to discuss on this site anyway. Baltic literature is typically too dark in nature for a lot of Western people anyway, but for us it's basically our entire cultural niche.

If It Bleeds by Stephen King. Started the second story. So far it feels like King's own mystical version of Black Mirror.

I am currently reading Socialism as a Secular Creed: A Modern Global History by Andrei Znamenski.

Socialism as a Secular Creed: A Modern Global History by ...

It covers the ideological origins of Socialism, its development, and practice in various parts of the world. There are two main emphases. The first is Socialism as a surrogate religion claiming to be scientific and replacing God of the Bible with people as the new gods. Second is how adherence to Socialism can quite quickly change the appeal to internationalism to ethno-nationalism.

Finally reading Crime and Punishment. It's giving me a good idea of why Russian novelists like Dostoyevsky are considered the greatest ever. I'm enjoying it but I'm not sure that it's a style I'll actively search for more of.

Story of a Soul, The Autobiography of Ste. Terese of Lisieux. This is a game-changer. I wasn’t truly aware of Ste. Terese until recently, but the more I learned, the more I wanted and needed to know. This book is a fascinating account of her life and her doctrine of the ‘Little Way.’ It’s changed the way I look at life and the approach to living it. Extaordinary!

Currently reading "LIttle Women"

I know this book is regarded as legendary. I'm not particularly enjoying it.

Also reading "Revolutionary Girl Utena" manga and I love it! Kind of preferring it to the anime already.

I have been reading Hitler: The Policies of Seduction. Zitelmann explains the worldview of the National Socialists and then how various aspects of it has been used to justify this or that policy the National Socialists have or have attempted to implement. In order to understand Hitler, Zitelmann notes how one must know the few axioms upon which Hitler's worldview is based: the notion of the eternal fight (a perpetual selection process), and another is the centrality of the Volksgemeinschaft (instead of the individual nor mankind as a whole). Zitelmann quotes Hitler extensively, from his speeches, books, articles and private conversations to explain his worldview (it is less the case that one can take Hitler's statements at face value if it was made for the public).

The following are the main sections of the book.

  • Hitler and the Revolution.
  • Hitler's Social Objectives and His Assessment of the Major Classes of Modern Society.
  • Hitler's Central Objective: The Revolutionizing of Politics and Economics and the Restructuring of the Economic System.
  • Hitler: An Opponent of Modern Industrial Society? Modernistic and Anti-Modernistic Elements in Hitler's Weltanschauung.
  • Hitler's Concepts and Objectives in His Domestic Policies.
  • Hitler's Self-Assessment in the Political Spectrum.

I am happy to have acquired the book. It has been interesting to read. And, from what I am aware, the book is quite rare.
