Somber jumped about 20 feet in the air when Spitfire called them to attention, and sent them off at the obstacle course. He went off a moderate pace, dodging the first few clouds. He was actually doing pretty good!... until his wing clipped one of them, sending him into a corkscrew movement to a cloud pillar.

Lightning Dust pulled his hoof back, and sped a cloud in her direction, making way for a direct hit, but she wasn't sure, as she had diverted her attention. A pegasus sped toward one of the crucial pillars that held up the mess hall, and Lightning Dust immediately took action, diving down to the pillar and flying around it at breathtaking speeds, blowing Somber off course, but Somber continued to barrel roll. It would be unfair to the others if he didn't right himself.

Night Song flew up over an incoming cloud and her hooves skidded across it. She shook her hooves to help them recover but then she spun out of the way of another cloud and continued flying and dodging clouds. The course started to get tougher and more unpredictable, but Night Song flew through it all(well, except at one point were she had to fly over a cloud and she bumped her head on another cloud that was above it).

North Arrow reacted instantly, flying up in the air. A cloud obstacle course? I've seen worse. And indeed he had - he considered himself almost a real life Daring Do. He arched gracefully, maneuvering between and among the clouds that were being hurled at them, twisting and turning, and even diving through the middle of one of the larger ones, dissolving it into a donut of mist around him.

"Good old times..." Iron Wing just replied to the yelling of Spitfire. "An obstacle course without a warming up... well, i don´t care." she said to herself, spreading her strong wings. She lifted off with an airwave behind her. Accelerating was something she could do very good, even with the heavy armor she was wearing. She was not a speed flier but she also had a very good top speed. She started the obstacle course analysing the situation and how she could pass the clouds as quick as possible. She did not have much trouble to keep her speed and agility to a good level. But Iron did not have any intention to overtake any of the ponies that were flying before her. She matched the speed as good as possible and managed the course without any accidents.

Star was reasonably calm, just keeping up along the way. To be brutally honest he was clearly the slowest of the lot, barely using any of his potential wing power. He was contempt with simply riding the wind. It was just the style he was used to, not accustomed to pushing himself. On the upside, this made the clouds easy to dodge.

"WhoawhoawhoawhoawhoaWHOA!", was all Somber could say once he felt himself pushed out of the pillar. He stopped for a minute and held his head, trying to beat the dizziness... And the nausea that came with it. He sat on a cloud for a few moments, then got back up and returned to the course, dodging the clouds yet again, but a little slower this time.

Rainbow Dash fired clouds into the course snappily, letting them fly near their targets. She spotted the pony who had spun out earlier. Rainbow bucked a cloud in his path, slower this time, letting him maneuver it. He needed to get back in the game. And Rainbow was prepared to make him. Then Rainbow kicked out another cloud after it, faster this time. Let's see how he deals with it. Rainbow thought, rubbing her hooves together.

As North Arrow started to speed up, he began to notice something streaming from his tail. Something that he hadn't noticed before.

It was an Aurora Borealis! When he flew quickly, his tail left an aurora in his wake! He had never realised that. 

 

He jumped back to his senses when, sidetracked, he narrowly avoided being smacked by a cloud. Grinning at the challenge, he sped up even faster, dodging clouds with an ease borne of experience. Clouds were nothing, as compared to boulders in a constricted tunnel. Real life Daring Do, huh? He smirked.

Somber could see a cloud being shot his way. He does a loop right through it.

 

OK, OK... That's better. I'm finally back in-- WHAT THE?!

 

Another cloud shot at him, much faster than the one before. Somber couldn't tell what to do, so being his stupid self, he shot through the cloud, "clouding" his vision.

As she weaved her way through the obstacle course, Night Song kept dodging pretty much every cloud that was thrown at her. Her style of dodging was turning to be rather graceful and martial arts-like as she spun, shuffled, and "sidestepped" out of the way of a vast majority of the clouds. She came to two clouds that blocked her way except for a narrow passageway. Remembering something Chaser Wing would sometimes do during marathons, she backed up from them and then she shot through the passageway, folding her wings at the last second before entering it.

Spitfire flew up, holding her megaphone.

 

"ALRIGHT PEOPLE, YOU THINK YOUR A WONDERBOLT? YOU BETTER DO BETTER THEN THAT!" Spitfire yelled, grabbing a cloud and bucking it in  any direction. She flew next to Rainbow Dash and Lightning Dust.

 

"Okay, girls, no holdin' back, y'hear?"

Somber could not tell where he was going at this point. He kept breaking through different clouds, as the fluff from each cloud obscured his vision more and more and more. Suddenly, he could feel nothing going at his way... It felt like just perfect blue shy was right there. The clouds were stuck in his eyes.

Iron Wing was flying with medium speed as she saw that one pony was aside the course, hitting through some clouds. It seemed that the black pegasus had problems with stabilizing himself and get into the right direction. Iron turned and left the course, flying to the pegasus to help. As she reached him, we was very "cloudy" , more looking like a cloud than a pony. "Hey there, are you alright?" she asked him, grabbing a hoove to pull him out of the clouds. She then helped him to get the clouds off his body so that he could continue flying. "Well... there... there... and... there... Everything done! If you have problems with evading the clouds, just follow my lead. I´ll fly with medium speed, so it should be easy for you to catch up. See ya on the course!" she said with a warm smile on her face and lifted off to continue the course.

"Yes ma'am," Lightning Dust replied, flinging another cloud in the direction of a few chatting pegasi, one that were listed on her form as Somber and Iron Wing. She sent another straight after it, before turning to Spitfire, asking, "How many laps to go before we move on to the next point of order?" She stepped back against the mure behind her, grabbing another cloud and holding on to it.

Once she got out of the passageway, Night Song immediately opened her wings and started to fly again. She got startled when she heard Spitfire's voice and barely managed to spin out of the way of a cloud Spitfire bucked toward her. She then noticed a cloud speeding toward two pegasi (Somber and Iron Wing). Without thinking, Night Song shouted,"Hey you two! WATCH OUT!!!"

"...Y'know, folks, 20 MORE LAPS AND THEN I WILL ASSIGN YOU GUYS SOME PARTNERS. SO GET TO IT, HUP HUP! MOVE IT!" Sptifire yelled through her megaphone, causing some other classes to look on.

 

"Um, Miss Spitfire?" A pegasus called Cloudchaser from another class asked.

 

"Yes, Chase?"

 

"I'm going to mess hall."

 

"Sure, but organise the partners for this class for me, will ya?"

 

"Oh, sure, Ma'm."

 

As Cloudchaser ran off, Spitfire looked at the mess the trainees were making. This was going to be a long day...

At that moment, Somber had no idea WHAT was going on. Somepony was helping him get the cloud from his eyes, then more yelling and a cloud conks him out. Luckily, he was able to recover, and get back on the course, but he was still dazed from the hit... His flying was a bit off for a few more laps.

After Iron Wing helped the pegasus that got stuck in some clouds, she returned to the course, evading all obstacles with good performance. Since the pony she helped earlier did not follow her lead as she had offered, she speeded up with the obstacle course and continued to evade all the clouds that were directed in her way. She was hoping that she got a good team mate for the team tasks that were up to come in the next training sessions. She was also wondering if the Wonderbolt Academy had sleeping rooms and if there were, what kind of ponies she would share a room with.

North Arrow rose to the challenge proffered by the faster flying clouds, by flying faster around and between them. The Aurora Borealis streaming behind him lengthened as he did so. His heart started pounding in his head as he rose into that state of heightened reality that he associated with adventure, and discovery.

Night Song was starting to get tired after nine more laps. By the 10th lap, she wanted to give up and lay down on a cloud somewhere far away from this course. However, her ambitious nature kicked in and she continued gracefully dodging out of the way of just about every speeding cloud that came her way. Her ambition allowed her to fly faster.

An orange blur was moving fast to Cloudsdale, the speed with like lightening as Orange Lightening has just arrived to the Wonderbolts Academy. As he landed on his hoofs it made a thunder noise. "Ooooh yeah baby! orange lightening is in the house, and may I say reporting for duty!!" The energetic Pegasus grinned as he was fired up to start training right away.

Spitfire turned her attention at the new arrival.

 

"Hello...sir. We are doing a course now, SO GET UP THERE AND GIMMIE FIFTY!" Spitfire yelled at Orange Lightning, pointing her hoof up to the course where the pegasi were racing around. "And do it fast, squirt. YOU'RE LATE."

Orange lightening lowered his sun glasses to see spitfire and grinned. "Mmmmm I DO love a Mare in a Uniform!" Orange Lightening thought to himself, and then saluted with respect to Spitfire, "Heeey no problemo  mam! I'll do fifty laps in half the time!!" The assertive Pegasus grinned with enthusiasm, as he jolted to the lap to join in. Orange Lightening began to fly around the lap, moving faster, and faster, feeling the wind on his rather large wings, each time he successfully made a full lap it sounded like lightening and thunder collided.

 

Still orange lightening knew he had alot of laps to cover in order to join up with the others, but still a challenge he gladly accepted.

After a while the obstacle course got boring and Iron Wing did not have to do many laps until the end. She snorted and decided to speed up to get the first training done. She tensed the muscles in her strong wings and bursted forwards with a lot more speed. She changed her wing position for more agility and in order to avoid the clouds with the increased speed. Iron accelerated to a velocity were the sharp edges of her wing-armor cut through the air and created contrails. She was not that fast like the famous Rainbow Dash but her speed was indeed noticable for a pony that weared a heavy armor. After some more laps she reached the 50th lap and landed near Spitfire. "50 laps done as you ordered Maám!" she said with a salute to Spitfire.
