An alternate take on the Hearth's Warming Eve episode

I've started working on a fanfic - the basic premise is that the events shown in the Hearth's Warming Eve episode were just an over-simplified, mostly allegoric story for foals, and that the real events leading up to the forming of Equestria were more violent and morally ambiguous, a conflict between the three races over dwindling resources when winters were suddenly getting longer and colder:

Any feedback would be appreciated. I haven't really gotten to the meat of the story yet, but I'm kind of building up the tensions between the three races which will eventually lead to conflict.

A truly interesting idea. The scene has been set incredibly well, and I very much look forward to see what this can be turned into.
