Is the fandom a lot more "limited" than it seems?

Since I've been a brony (November 2011) I've been noticing the same kind of content getting praised all the time, and other media getting left in the dust...

There are these certain types of fan media you know... that seem to have overshadowed any attempts at doing anything else.

Music for example: Only these "whatever you call 'em" remixes seem to be everywhere and it's kind of implying that If you want to make brony music, you have to make music in this style, otherwise noone's gonna give a damn about you. Wanna make a b*tchin metal cover of something from the show? Or just a nice little chiptune? TOO BAAAAD.

And the other thing. Games. There are tons of fangames out there but noone seems to care about them, even though a lot of them aren't your run of the mill Pinkie Pie platformers with less graphical originality than an Atari 2600 game. These take a long time to make, yet they aren't even appreciated as much as drawings that probably don't take longer than a couple days to finish.

Is it that most the bronies aren't gamers at all? And even if those who are, only care about a game if it's in FULLHDSUPERMEGA3DVISION?

Why does the fandom seem so limiting in what you can do if you want more than 2 guys cheering for you?

Any opinions on this?

You have to look in the right places, it's not like other things don't get attention, it's that the popular stuff is right on top, and you have to kinda brush it away and look at what's going on a little deeper down.

It's a matter of advertisement and publicity. there's a lot of content to sift through (various brony artists/musicians, game makers, etc), and a lot of people have those select few names that they've come to know and talk about.

I personally stick to just a select few artists in terms of music and artwork, most of which could be considered "mainstream" to the fandom, but I have also branched off and found works that are unconventional.

As well, the only brony games that I can think of right off the bat that I'm looking foward to are pony kart and fighting is magic.

It's like with anything else, those with talent need to get themselves noticed, and the fandom holds a ton of talent. that's why people go to conventions and showcase their stuff, as well as submit their works to websites like equestria daily (I personally get excited when something of mine gets featured in a draw friend, because it means more exposure).

The thing is a lot of people just browse and scratch the surface, and some people really look for fan-games.  As for me I'm not much of a gamer so I really don't look for games. About the music, electronic stuff is popular now, but other genres get in there as well.  Such as "Loyalty" or "I'll fly Higher".  What makes it hard to find those other music genres is that people tend to stick to one brony musician or the other.  They don't really search around I guess.  (Not everyone, but a lot of people)  (also this is just what it seems to me)

Publicity, and the populous, are fickle. Anything, no matter how vast, is going to have a handful of things that have ascended to viral level within the fanbase, sometimes for stupid reasons. Cupcakes, for example. Then you have the handful of super-known music, like Discord by Eurobeat and it's remix by Tombstone. My Little Dashie. The list goes on.

No, the fanbase is hardly limited. We're literally a gigantic, global community of artists, animators, writers and other professional-level individuals and groups. To get attention, you just need to post in the right places, really, and maybe strive a bit to get your work known, instead of sitting there and hoping people will flock to it.

Nothing as big as MLP is ever limited. You have to search around some, ask around a little, etc. but you can usually find a lot of great stuff. Personally I need to find more brony rock and metal. Have you heard Loyalty by AcousticBrony and Mandopony? That's some good stuff.

If you have cookies turned on in your browser and listen to a few things like this Youtube will grab some stuff like this in the related videos.

It does seem like electronic music is really big in the fandom. Try looking up Elements of Harmonics as well. That's one of my favorite songs. It's supposed to be a music battle between Octavia and DJ-P0N-3.

Just because stuff isn't as well known doesn't mean nobody appreciates it, there is so much fanmade material that there is no way anyway could possibly watch, read or in the case of the games play it all. Because of the sheer volume of stuff there is going to be a few things that are a tad overrated and a few things that are a bit underrated but the same thing would happen no matter what the fandom. The amount of creativity that this has inspired is absolutely incredible, there is something out there for virtually every type of fan.

Thanks for that big man! I've never heard that one myself and was delighted tae hear it. I was starting to doubt we had any metal or rock in the fandom.

We do have some. There's still a lot I haven't heard myself. Gotta get out there lookin' for it. AcousticBrony, the guy who plays the guitar in that song, has a bunch of good stuff including themes for the mane six which are all really good themes. I like Twilight and Rarity's best.

^ Bronyfied seems to put a good bit of metal out there.

^ JackleApp puts out more soothing,  electronic-acoustic kind of sounds.

^Feather does kind of the same as well.

Seniority is probably a pretty big factor. The most popular artists were part of the herd from near the beginning, thus they've had time to rack-up subs, viewers, watchers, etc. Doesn't mean new artists can't make a name for themselves, it just means they need to work doubly-hard around the bar set by said previously mentioned artists.

More difficult? Yes. Impossible? No.

The community is extremmly limited and ever since it became limited its been absolute shit. I noticed this trend beginning in about April-May and since then our community has lost all of its touch. There's this mainstream flow you have to be with or else no one else cares.

Music is probably the best example your either wooden toaster, livingtombstone or some other mainstream fucktard using looped beats and extremly edited voice in small portions. Or you make remixes. That's the only way your every going to catch the community's attention and probably how it will remain.

Now to call are selves a community is an over statement. When I joined the community,on most forums I lurked there's was sense that everyone knew eachother well.then as times went on some forums became more popular ( this one) and others died. There's a few that went under that actually directed there users to come to this forum. The numbers of users got so staggering and there was always new users coming in you couldn't find that sense of community anymore, and it seemed that it was just a bunch of people you didn't know fighting over stuff you couldn't give less of a fuck about.

Now the community is completely doom gloom and mainstream flow. No, there's actually a few micro community's that still remain. There hard to find but if you do find one the user community tends to be small and it becomes easy to get know eachother, also tumbler bronies seem to have stuck together well and still have a community feel, even if the generally travel in smaller groups. Also, NSFW has an amazing sense of community, probably the most connected pony community around. If you can draw 'da pornz' then you quickly become known and often times get at a point where you talk and share with the top artists, something that is nearly impossible to find in the other art community's.

There. That's my rant.

If you want to create something without needing to go through that long and difficult stage where the number of people who know about you, there is a shortcut. It's called doing exactly the same thing somebody everybody knows already did. I have 36 subscribers on YouTube, and every one of them is because a known Minecrafter posted something and then I posted a few videos of the same thing done bigger and better and he mentioned it in later videos. 36 isn't all that much, but considering that I went from 0 to there in a total of 6 videos all on one project and getting over 200 views on some of them, that's a big step that I could have built on if I wanted to be another guy who uploads a bunch of videos about building redstone stuff in Minecraft. I have to admit that it felt good getting all that attention, but I'm not a very good content creator and I'm not all that into Minecraft anymore either. The point is, if you do something that's already popular and link it to something that's already well known, you get an immediate sense of accomplishment, immediate support, and instant motivation to start on the next thing. If you make what you want to make, something that's never been done before, then nobody knows unless you tell them, and not everybody who finds it will be interested. If you keep on making things anyway, and put just as much effort into making others take notice as you do making your creation worthy of notice, then eventually you'll become the popular one everybody knows, and then YOU get to be the one surrounded by people begging for you to keep doing exactly what's now already popular and already known.

It's very hard to start original, and it's very hard to stay original. This applies to everything if your goal is to become popular.

I don't have much of the more uncommon content bookmarked, but that's due to the fact that I have to be looking for metal covers specifically if I want to find those and not the normal fare. If I want news on the games in development I have to go read all their separate blogs and keep track of all their separate release dates or whatever. I don't have that much time to go out of my way to find these things.

What if someone started up a blog or a website to feature some alternative forms of content?
