writing Irishmen (Men of Harlech Parody)

Decided to do one off Men of Harlech, this time it's about the Irish Brigade and their assault at Antetiam, and about that Chaplin (whose name I forgot) who actually rode back and forth across the the Irish Brigade's lines shouting prayers and stuff. Total Badass. A painting of it is attached somehwhere on here. Oh btw, Faugh 'a Ballagh is galeic for 'Clear the Way' and was kind of the battle cry of the Irish Brigade

Anywho, here's the song:

Men of Erin’s shore assemble

Let us charge the foe so nimble

Our bayonet to make them tremble

Men both old and raw!

We march through the Gates of Hell

Bearing scores of shot and shell

Our battle cry, the foe to tell

Faugh a’ Ballagh!

From the hills and valleys

Let this war cry rally

Men of old, of youth and bold

Too many to tally!

Irishmen march onto glory

Let us ne’er forget your story

Let this war cry resound from ye

Faugh a’ Ballagh

Keep your lines, your backs erected

Through the slaughter now perfected

Your flag of green, bullets collected

Shall be the last to fall!

See the Chaplin ride in saddle

Back and Forth by lines of battle

Shouting prayers, while bullets rattle

Faugh a’ Ballagh!

From the hills and valleys

Let this war cry rally

Men of old, of youth and bold

Too many to tally!

Irishmen march onto glory

Let us ne’er forget your story

Let this war cry resound from ye

Faugh a’ Ballagh!

William Corby, yes! I think that was the chaplin's name. He was also at Gettysburg. Since I'm portraying the 69th there, I wonder if there will be an impersonater there granting us 'final absolution'
