The Longest you've Gone without Speaking

As the title suggests, what is the longest period of time you've gone without talking to someone? Also excluding work, talking to teachers, ordering food at restaurants, etc. how long do you think you could go without socialising?

I went a little over a week without talking before. It wasn't a challenge or a spiritual thing or something. I just didn't want to say anything at the time   I could probably last over a month if I made a conscious effort.

What about you?

Huh. Maybe only a couple of hours, and only at night when everybody else is asleep. I'm more of a social animal, and get lonely if there's no one around I can talk to.

Hm. This would most likely have to be a few hours. I'm assuming sleeping doesn't count, of course. I can't stay quite for too long since I like to talk to myself, but I've upset my boyfriend a few times by actually stop talking when he tells me to shut up or be quiet. He actually forgets he said it and half an hour later he is freaking out wondering what he did wrong.

I'm fine with not speaking as well as socializing, but I have a tendency to make a habit of both from time to time. The longest I've gone without speaking would have to be one of the times that my older brother slept over at a friend's house or something akin to that. On those days I've gone for about 12 hours, not including sleep.

Interesting topic. The longest I've gone without speaking is probably ~12 hours. If it were necessary, then I could probably go without talking for a couple more days max. Speaking plays such an important role in how we interact with society, and I can't see myself staying quiet any longer than that.

MAYBE an entire day? I'm a really busy person so I have to talk to people a lot with all the different stuff I do. I've had days where I talk less than usual I guess. I'm not a people person (AT ALL) so if I wasn't required to socialize with other humans I could easily (and happily) go probably a month.

Interesting... Does this forbid me from speaking like Wile E. Coyote?

Quite honestly, I think I could last for a good while. The longest I've gone without speaking is probably about 12 hours when my parents were on vacation. The only reason that isn't "a week" is because we talked every evening about how they were enjoying themselves and the massive snowfall we had here.

Also, would talking to yourself count? I have a bit of a bad habit of doing that.

What like a month for me? though in that occasion the perfect conditions were on my side. My parents were away, my brothers didn't mind and I was on vacation at the time.

It was a rather strange thing after the first week, a small voice with an attitude of it's own developed during that time. Opposite of who I was, it stayed there for the remainder of my mental solitude.

When I was younger, I only ever spoke to my best friend.  And she always came to school.  But there was that one day that she didn't.  So i didn't speak to anyone.  At all.

(that's how shy I was.  I didn't even speak to the teachers.  My communication was by nodding, shaking my head, or shrugging my shoulders)

I could go my whole life without saying but maybe a few words, but with my house, I'm actually not allowed to be quiet for that long, the longest I've gone is 3 days, but I got in trouble for it :/ When I move out, I'll definitely go a month...

I went a month in a half. I was in that hate everything, could care less about anybody else mindset. I could have gone longer but people were worrying about me. They had a mother bucking doctor over and had one of those lay down on the couch and tell me your problems session and was diagnosing me with all these words. I never facepalmed so hard in my life

I haven't talked to anyone in about 5 days currently. Nothing out of the ordinary, I just don't normally talk to people. A couple of weeks of silence probably occurs about twice a year. My record is something like 1 month I think, I wasn't keeping track and when I finally spoke I realized afterwards that I couldn't remember the last time I had talked to someone.

I find that gestures and facial expressions are much more efficient ways of communication than talking to people.

Well, the longest I've gone is about 5 hours without actually verbally saying something (I talk to myself alot), but the longest I've probably gone without any verbal communication is around half a day. But this thread has encouraged me to try and keep my trap shut for a whole week >:D

I actually found an interesting topic for debate similar to this. The idea was that you go into an empty room, ten metres squared by five metres high, white walls, no windows and doors, no entertainment - with all the food you could want available on demand, and access to a bathroom. Simply, you have to stay in that room without coming out, for one year, for £16,400,000 (don't ask me why it was that random figure). I would very much consider doing that.

I have gone for two and a half weeks. I didn't exactly happen to be social. Now however, I doubt that I  could last a day. Maybe I will go a month or two later on this year

well if i can take out talking to my brother. then i can not talk for weeks at a time. im not a vary sociable person and i rarely talk with my friends  i live with my brother so we are talking all the time. so if i cant not count him then its normally about 6 hours at a time and thats when he is at work and im home alone.

A few hours. I can usually go most of a day without speaking. Of course, I also talk to myself, my brother and my dad often.

When I end up awake all night, that's usually a good 8-12 hours of relative silence

Well, if we count not being forced to, I'd say a day or two.  By forced, I mean when I was in Basic and we had all our platoon mottos and morning PT stuff that we had to do.  Things that don't require thought and are really only meaningless repetition of something said previously.

Realistically, I talk to myself a lot.  So probably not more than a few hours.

I can't go very long without speaking, considering I've got classes to go to and no cooking skill or appliances. If I had enough supplies and no obligations, I could spend days without saying anything though.
