Majora's Mask. Cause, I could fight the bosses over and over again without having to start a new game.

My all-time favorite is Ocarina of Time, although Majora's Mask comes as a very close second.

Ocarina just did everything right. It had great controls, a fluent and intuitive combat system, the usual wide variety of enemies, great visuals for its time, amazing atmosphere and memorable characters. The entire setting worked incredibly well, and the stark contrasts between Young Link's time and Adult Link's time were beautiful to behold. The first time you emerge into the market as Adult Link, seeing the ominous black sky, wasted stalls, and ReDead wandering around is incredibly chilling. Furthermore, the final boss fight with Ganon is easily my favorite final boss in any game ever. The setting and the music are both perfect.

Majora's Mask does all these things almost as well. In the atmosphere department, it certainly matches Ocarina as the music in Clock Town deteriorates as the days go by, culminating into the chilling theme when the final hours have arrived. The way the NPCs react to the imminent disaster is also amazing to see. Some flee the city, others stay to witness the end, but whatever they do you can tell that it's imperative you avert the disaster. That said, I did think the boss fights in Majora's Mask weren't as good as the ones in Ocarina, and I had hoped there would be more than four, not counting the Moon, given that Ocarina had eight, not counting Ganon's Tower. I understand they did it for technical reasons, and there's no denying the game worked out really well, but it is one of the reasons I like Ocarina better. The other reason is plain and simple: nostalgia. I played Ocarina on the N64 years ago and I spent hours just walking across Hyrule doing nothing in particular. I didn't play Majora's Mask until the 3DS remake came out, and I was focused more on getting 100% than truly immersing myself in the world.

HOLY CRAP.  At the time of this posting, Majora's Freaking Mask is leading the poll!  That is....astonishing.  Now, let me just say that I'm a huge fan of Majora.  I loved it.  Absolutely loved it.  But here's the interesting thing--I find myself regularly using Majora's Mask as a go-to response for such questions as "Things you love that everybody else hates," or "Most underrated games," etc.  I've barely ever seen a good word said about it.  What I have seen is unfair trashing of it because it wasn't the exact same thing as Ocarina.  So, I guess what I want to say now is...way to go, brony community, for recognizing a great game for what it is.

But, as much as I loved Majora, it wasn't my favorite.  I enjoyed it more than Ocarina, though.  Ocarina had a great story, but MM featured improved gameplay.  I enjoyed Twilight Princess more than either of those.  Objectively speaking, I think I'd have to give it to Twilight Princess, the game that makes all brony ears prick up for obvious reasons, as the series pinnacle.  However, for my personal favorite, I think I'll have to be loyal to the classic Link to the Past.  Admittedly, I have a heavy bias towards the game for sentimental and nostalgic reasons, but it really was a good example of the zenith of retro rpg.

Majora's Mask by far. I love the emphasis on helping out the townspeople as well as the countless sidequests to do. The darker tone is also incredible and I adore it, and it does a better job of being "dark" than Twilight Princess, also, the time limit was a part I actually liked about the game.

For the record, OoT is my least favorite Zelda, at least concerning the 3d games. Not bad, but not as good to me as others. Wind Waker is my second.

I'm sure Breath of the Wild will top MM for me, though.

Although I have loved several of the Zelda games since then, none have quite hit me the way ALTTP did... I spent days on that game until finally beating it, and it was one of those first early games where the ending just made it all worthwhile. I may have even shed a few tears... I cannot confirm this of course... I am just saying it may have happened.

It was definitely one of the best video game ending sequences of all time.  I always wanted to find a really definitive orchestral or remixed version of the ending theme, but I never did.  Ever beat the game in a couple minutes?

I love finding glitches and cool stuff like this many years later.  I went 25 years without knowing this was possible!  It's hilarious.  And the entire ending sequence is glitched because it's still raining.  Easy to do with an emulator; you just hold up and down simultaneously as you walk through the door.  I believe it's only possible with a SNES controller by taking it apart and tinkering with the d-pad.  Oh, did you ever find the Chris Houlihan room in LTTP?  That's another thing that blew my mind.

It has to be The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask for me. The dark undertones and storyline are unique to this and only Twilight Princess has come close to being of a similar experience. I love how they were able to use something as pointless as masks, and made them an integral part of the gameplay. I also like how the minor characters are given the focus and that your actions determine how they will react to a given situation.

Nope. I have never really had too much interest in glitching in that form. I have done it to explore ares in games normally closed off and the like, but never for beating a game super fast.

Also there are several of those remixes lying around, some of them are amazingly good. Some that I truly enjoy:

It is IMO virtually impossible to top the original

A fan made complete orchestral version of the complete ending.

A symphony performed version of some of the songs in San Francisco

Performed in Montreal

Yeah, Breath of the Wild looks fantastic, but I won't play it. I've learned the hard way that is a waste of cash to buy a console for a handful of games

Majora's Mask (original AND remake) I love for its sense of helping others out of grief. Plus the 3 day cycle makes for wonderful self-imposed challenges such as "Help out as many people in one cycle" or "See what happens if you let x do y" Plus, it was so satisfying to beat the visual nightmare of a Final Boss and bring the Dawn of a New Day.

Let's be real, you cannot beat Majora's Mask. I've played nearly every Zelda game, and I've yet to find one I like more than Majora's Mask. The darkest story in the Zelda series, townsfolk you actually remember and care about, the prettiest overworld on the N64... and dare I say any Zelda game in general. Plus for the longest time it was the only 3D Zelda game to play differently than Ocarina of Time, which borrowed a bit from A Link From The Past. I have both the N64 version and 3DS remaster, and though the 3DS version is a lot prettier, the boss fights were all ruined, and some masks and items were changed for the worse. So I usually prefer the original.

Plus, it has the most iconic threat in a Zelda game next to Ganon

For the longest time my favorite has always been A Link to the Past, but Breath of the Wild is the first game to give it any competition

A Link Between Worlds is at the top of my list, but Link's Awakening and Ocarina of Time come pretty close.

Am planning to finally play Tears of the Kingdom, so we'll see how it stacks up. :>

At first I rejected the zero, but that was because I simply didn't understand it. Now I do.

Wind Waker is just nothing but nostalgia for me with Minish Cap being a close 2nd place for the same reason, but A Link Between Worlds is easily the more textbook definition of 'best' when it comes to Zelda games. ALBW is literally the only game I've ever played that after I saw the credits for the first time, I instantly started a new save file right away
