(Zygens) Art is... Magic?

Hello everypony!! Its Zygen back here finally after a bit of a large delay between the last time I posted any pony art. I've been working on a little project, which I've been doing some work on the side, but decided to dedicated the past like 3-4 days to working hard on finishing it, and I'm FINALLY DONE .

 

So anyways I drew the Mane 6 altogether plus my OC, nothing special really. I just felt like after I drew each of them separate I thought it would be cool to try and draw them all together and then I can compare my original drawings to the ones in this picture.

 

This probably took me a combination of about 20 hours at a random guess.. I'm very perfectionist, so even though my art skills aren't perfect I still have made plenty attempts to try to make it perfect . Therefore I spent a pretty large chunk of time. All I know is I've been spending most of my free time working on this the past 3 days.

 

I think the most noticeable improvement that I have between the pictures here and my older ones is that the heads are shaped better. You may also notice that each picture is kinda of a different quality as I draw each one.(I started on the middle and went left right left right left right as it goes out. I.E I drew my OC then Twilight then Fluttershy, ect.)

 

Anyways, I still think that my raw circle drawing skills are pretty sucky . I have to change many things about most of the circles after I actually try to make one, but i think I'm starting to get a better hold of it. Things we're much easier this second time since I had a better idea of how to try what I was drawing.

 

Anyways I'll stop rambling and give you the picture(Then ramble some more .)

 

As always this is drawn in GIMP using my mouse(I don't think anybody cares what mouse I use.. But its a logictech m705.) And yeah. I used references, but I'm not going to list them out here because well one I'm lazy and two I don't find it overly necessary, they're all pretty easy to find in Google images.

 

So as always I'm open to any and all critique, critique will only improve me and give me more to work on And getting better is good... Right? ?

 

So tell me what ya think! Which one do you think is your favorite? Or maybe which ones have which aspects done best? Feel free to leave any comments,Reactions, Tips, Opinions, Muffins or what have you!

 

I'll be sticking around the forums maybe watching Youtube or something or posting elsewhere for a bit, although I might be hitting the hay soon, Having to concentrate on this stuff is kinda hard on my eyes .

 

As for my next project, well I'm not really sure, I'm probably gonna draw some random art of my OC or whatever comes to mind, if you want you can leave ideas to. I do know that I plan to work on doing different poses a bit, I experimented a little with that here. I also wanna work on drawing some suitable cartoon backgrounds to go with the pictures.. And well lets just say I have alot to work on .

 

Anyways I'll stop rambling before I spend all night typing, enjoy!(If somehow you enjoy looking at the monstrosities I create, and then having to scoop your eyeballs out with a spoon.. I don't know about you but I don't like scraping my eyes out with a spoon.. But whatever butters your bread. )

It just gets more and more perfect as it moves outwards To the point where AJ and Pinkie more or less have all their proportions right, and even Rarity's mane, which is a bitch to pull off properly   All things considered a great drawing and even greater improvement, their legs just need to be fatter is all

Thanks btw, and Rarity's Mane is A HUGE PAIN . I dread trying to draw that thing. Its really complicated, Honestly I think I could've done alot better with shading it and stuff. But anyways. .

 

I agree I'm still making a bit skinny legs. I can't understand why but my brain is like NOOOO THIS IS THE CORRECT PROPORTION FOR HOOFS AND YOUR GOING TO DRAW THEM EXACTLY LIKE THIS!... Anyways I'm sure I can do some work by drawing them a bunch or something and get those right.

Thank you . That means alot! I guess its a good thing I'm developing a style. I didn't really think about it though, I kinda thought I'd have to put some thought into or something. Guess I'm wrong ?

Thanks I appreciate the compliment . And I just consider myself a noob because well frankly I'm pretty bleh at this in my eyes, still have some issues that I need to iron out.

Hehe, stop it your making me blush . I did alot of edits to the color scheme, and its had quite alot of changes.(Ironically enough I made him at first an Alicorn, but that was a long time ago and he looks pretty ugly as an Alicorn anyways.) I'm not even totally sure if I'm set on this being the 100% final product, I might still edit a few minior things, possibly the cutie mark and stuff.

 

I also need to decide if hes actually going to be a unique OC, or just based off something, or my ponysona, or what and yeah I've got some work to do whenever I decide to get around to it .

Thanks , I know I have plenty of room for improvement, but then again that just gives me something to motivate myself to achive(You know if I don't procrastinate that forever .)

 

And yes RARITY'S MANE OMG. I dread that thing, sorry even thing its really elegant, its also very complex. Expecially the shading on it and stuff, and really the outline is pretty complicated to with all the overlapping outline's and stuff. Definitely the hardest to do overall.

 

Thank you for the compliments though , I will keep practicing! Its easier to do especially when people leave me nice compliments like this, they really do play a part in keeping me from just giving up, because honestly some of this stuff can be quite frustrating for me . It is still enjoyable, but again frustrating at times(My perfectionist habits don't quite help.)

This is awesome! I can't draw groups like this at all...only one at a time and without a background, so props for the group picture. I haven't seen your earlier work so I don't have much to compare it to, but it's obvious the amount of time you put into the detail (especially on the manes). The only thing I would suggest is working on proportions, mostly with the legs (the height of the ponies) and some of the eyes (they're different sizes). 

 

You should be proud! Never stop drawing, I look forward to seeing how you improve with more experience!

Not sure if you wanna see some of my really early work , but I'm pretty positive you don't wanna see my first drawing of ponies XD. It was quite terrible the first time I drawed, and now you can actually tell there ponies, so its an improvement from that standpoint .

And I agree the legs are probably of my weakest points when it comes to drawing ponies, those always turn out quite random . And the body size is a bit random especially when I switch between different poses. But that gives me more to practice so I'm sure I'll fix it eventually .

 

And Thank you I am actually pretty proud that my ponies no longer look like deformed dogs drawn by 3 year olds . I plan to continue with drawing ponies for a good while, I have no plans to just stop anytime soon though .

Oh ok yeah drawing on the computer does have a few little tricks that make it easier to draw some things . I'd love to see some of your art someday though so feel free to upload it, if I can upload some of the monstrosities that I have I think you'll be more then fine .

 

And thanks . Yeah I better have improved something since the first drawing Lol. I wasn't really proud of myself back then for my art, I was pretty aware that I sucked Xd. So I really only have improvement to be proud of. But I know what ya mean .

Thank you for your compliments . I will admit that since Fluttershy's my favorite of the Mane 6 she did get a possible extra bit of attention . Still I'm not sure if I could pick a best of the drawings, I think I have some things to work on and improve in each, however overall I think they get better in order of as I drew them. Just me though .

 

And yeah, I planned to do a more detailed background with some extra stuff, but after so much drawing of ponies I did in this 1 project I kinda got a bit lazy and cut some ideas out .
