OK, I'm back with another questionnaire that will hopefully start a nice discussion and make people think about how far we've come.

1. What grade did you learn to type in? And have you ever used an ordinary typewriter, whether it was electric or manual?

2. What was your first home video game system and what year did you get it?

3. What is the oldest car, make and model year, you can remember your family owning?

4. Did you ever have first generation My Little Ponies or Transformers? If so, when did you get them?

5. Who was the earliest president, prime minister, governor, head honcho, etc. of your country that you have a first hand memory of?

6. Do you recall smoking being allowed in workplaces where you live? US members under 20 will generally say no but answers from other countries may vary.

7. Did you ever use old-style roller skates instead of roller blades?

8. Did you ever use a pre-Windows PC?

9. Remember “Be kind, please rewind”?

10. Name the first big blockbuster movie you recall watching in a theater that wasn't a re-release.

I'll chime in a little later with my personal answers to each question. Enjoy! :)

EDIT:  If anybody who wants to read my personal answers to these questions, please scroll down to post #17.

I started pretty early...first grade? Second grade? Something like  that.

This isn't a fair question for me to answer, since my dad is into old cars. XD

I believe the oldest was a '67 Mustang Fastback.

No, no, and no.

5. Who was the earliest president, prime minister, governor, head honcho, etc. of your country that you have a first hand memory of?

1. What grade did you learn to type in? And have you ever used an ordinary typewriter, whether it was electric or manual? Well I was homeschooled so I didn't have a specific grade I remember being taught, I just kinda learned. I've been using computers since I was 3.

I haven't really used a Typewriter to write anything out, I just messed with one, didn't actually accomplish anything, not sure if it was electric or not :P.

2. What was your first home video game system and what year did you get it?

Pretty sure it was PS2, I got it like when I was 6-7? (I'm 15 now do the math because I'm lazy :D. )

3. What is the oldest car, make and model year, you can remember your family owning?

Well I honestly can't remember very far back at all for the car, but I think my mom had a honda Civic before the one she had now, that was like 4 years agoish? I don't know the model year though.

4. Did you ever have first generation My Little Ponies or Transformers? If so, when did you get them?

No, I didn't care for either much when I was young, I hardly knew of the exsistance  of MLP, and I didn't know about transformers until i was showed the movie by someone.

5. Who was the earliest president, prime minister, governor, head honcho, etc. of your country that you have a first hand memory of? Blagh, I'm terrible at this, honestly at the time I didn't care enough to remember, so yeah.. I honestly can't even think of the last U.S presidents name. For some freaking reason I can't think of it. >_> I'm stupid, but yeah I certainly didn't know it back when I was younger.

6. Do you recall smoking being allowed in workplaces where you live? US members under 20 will generally say no but answers from other countries may vary.

Nope not really.

7. Did you ever use old-style roller skates instead of roller blades?

I can't skate using either one.. So yeah :P.

8. Did you ever use a pre-Windows PC?

Nope not really. Oldest one we had I used was an XP or something. And my dad owned a laptop with like 97 or 98 or something.

9. Remember “Be kind, please rewind”?

Never heard it before. :/

10. Name the first big blockbuster movie you recall watching in a theater that wasn't a re-release.

With my terrible memory I can honestly say that I have no idea.. No I really don't :P. I don't even watch that many movies compared to other people anyways. I watched Starwars, Lion King, a bunch of other Disney movies and stuff, but I don't remember which ones first or if there was stuff before that.

I'm 15 if you missed that btw.

love these types of topics, any way getting to the subject.

1. I learned to type on an old fashioned manual typewriter in the second grade.

2. The first Video Game console i remember owning was the NES which was owned by my sister then passed down to me.

3. 1993 Chrysler New Yorker. Car was full of fond memories but after 100,000 miles it barely held up. still loved the buck outta it though.

4. Transformers. i owned an action figure when i was 4. i cant recall who it was but i know i got it as a present for something.

5. Clinton. I remember sitting in front of the T.V. and my grandpa bad mouthing him and swearing at him through the tv. quite funny to a kid my age.

6. Yes and No. In some workplaces smoking was allowed.

7. I used to own old timey skates that were popular in the 1950's but then i broke them with my weight.

8. Yeah i remember using OS/2 when i was littler. It was the most magical thing i have ever saw in my early life.

9. I remember how half of the tapes i rented were never re-winded and how annoyed i was when i wanted to watch the movie right now and not have to wait 5 minutes for the tape to get to the beginning. Though, i also never re-winded the tape so i guess thats Karma.

10. Casper. I remember how much the movie theater smelled like vomit and how much the metal seats hurt my butt.

1. I learned how to normally type, as in write stuff using a keyboard, when I was four. Yeah. I never really learned how to touch type either, that came naturally. Speed typing too.

I have used a typewriter; I can't remember the exact context, but I remember writing my name on it repeatedly.

2. Home video game system... I'm guessing handhelds don't count. :P Our first ever home console was in 2002, where we got ourselves a GameCube along with games Pikmin, Super Monkey Ball and Super Smash Bros. Melee. I was 6, my brother was 8. We loved Super Monkey Ball, we'd spend loads of time on it when I wasn't in my own room playing with K'Nex... Smash Bros. as well - Pikmin, being 1-player, wasn't really touched.

We freaking loved it, man. Oh, those were the days. Couldn't get past level 27 on Advanced for Monkey Ball, nor level 7 for Expert. The levels beyond that were mythical.

3. I can't even remember the model, I know that it was white and the seats inside were grey. And the last three letters on the number plate were GUY. It was a pretty cool car, but it became too small once my little sister was born.

4. I've not owned either of them. I think my sister might have had a My Little Pony at some point, but Playmobile was what she really loved. One childhood friend of mine (whose room was literally swimming in action figures) had all the different Transformers.

5. Tony Blair was the guy sitting up there when I first learned about prime ministers. Can't even remember what age I was, but I know he was the guy running everything.

6. This one's a null because I'm 16.

7. This one's also a null because I've never roller-skated nor have I roller-bladed.

8. Nope, I started right out on Windows 95. I was on that thing age 2, my parents say. Punching random letters into Microsoft Word and playing the Jump Ahead game series. It was the OS that gave a happy fanfare when you logged out, and actually shut down instantly without fuss.

9. Oh yes. A phrase my parents used when we got VHSes from Blockbuster in town.

10. That'd be Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. Went with my entire family. I remember being both amazed and completely terrified of it, especially when Quirrell's face collapses in the end fight - hopped onto my dad's leg and looked away for most of the film. I remember seeing the chess game for the first time, actually. And the Quidditch match.

1. We have different grades in France so it's called CP here but I guess it's elementary school in the US. Never used a typewriter, though.
2. The PS1 in 2002 if I'm not mistaken. Technically, it was my brother's but still

3. A Ford Sierra.

4. Nope.

5. Jacques Chirac, french president.
6. I sure do.
7.  Yes.

8. No, started with Windows 98.

9. I haven't seen it but I remember it.

10. Um. Star Wars: Revenge Of The Sith is the only one I can think of right now.

1. What grade did you learn to type in? And have you ever used an ordinary typewriter, whether it was electric or manual?
I learned to type after we got internet at home That was when I was 10 I think. Before that I wasn't using much more than WASD and the arrow keys. We do have a typewriter from the early 20th century and I did try it a few times... digital typing is much more comfortable.

2. What was your first home video game system and what year did you get it?
Never had a console, probably never will. My first pc that had games on it was an crappy custom rig with Radeon 9600 1,9 single core CPU and 128MB of RAM.

3. What is the oldest car, make and model year, you can remember your family owning?
Škoda 120L 1984. Very simble and faithful steed. It's been rusting in our garage till the late 2010. I still kinda miss it.

4. Did you ever have first generation My Little Ponies or Transformers? If so, when did you get them?
Yes. I got some my little pony toys after my sister. I wasn't interested in them though.

5. Who was the earliest president, prime minister, governor, head honcho, etc. of your country that you have a first hand memory of?
Ivan Gasparovic. President.

6. Do you recall smoking being allowed in workplaces where you live? US members under 20 will generally say no but answers from other countries may vary.
Yes. I didn't really see the issue if everyone is OK with that.

7. Did you ever use old-style roller skates instead of roller blades?
Nope. I'm a bicycle person.

8. Did you ever use a pre-Windows PC?
Yup. MS Dos rig.

9. Remember “Be kind, please rewind”?
Yes.

10. Name the first big blockbuster movie you recall watching in a theater that wasn't a re-release.

Alright, I'm eighteen, and in my first year of college.

1. What grade did you learn to type in? And have you ever used an ordinary typewriter, whether it was electric or manual?

I learned to type in sixth grade. And I've never used a typewriter, although it would be awesome to.

2. What was your first home video game system and what year did you get it?

Well, I got my first Game Boy Color on my fifth birthday, which would have been 1999. It was a see-through purplish color, and I got a Pokemon Yellow along with it.

Console-wise? I got an original xbox in third grade, I believe it was. So... 2002, 2003? Somewhere in there?

3. What is the oldest car, make and model year, you can remember your family owning?

When I was younger... Mom drove a forest green '96 Plymouth Voyager minivan... And Dad drove a red saturn of an older make, but I can't remember the specs. Might have been a '92?

4. Did you ever have first generation My Little Ponies or Transformers? If so, when did you get them?

Nope.

5. Who was the earliest president, prime minister, governor, head honcho, etc. of your country that you have a first hand memory of?

I actually remember the election the year Bush ran against Gore. I liked Bush. His name made me laugh, for some reason. I wouldn't have known any better at that age, anyway.

6. Do you recall smoking being allowed in workplaces where you live? US members under 20 will generally say no but answers from other countries may vary.

Nope.

7. Did you ever use old-style roller skates instead of roller blades?

I actually prefer the old-style ones. Never used roller blades in my life.

8. Did you ever use a pre-Windows PC?

I'm not sure, actually. Don't think so. My dad used to build and rebuild computers, so it might have been a pre-windows thing. I don't remember.

9. Remember “Be kind, please rewind”?

Are you talking about VCRs? I think I remember my grandmother saying that.

10. Name the first big blockbuster movie you recall watching in a theater that wasn't a re-release.

Oh, I have no idea. I don't remember what the first movie I went to watch was. Maybe... This one?

1. What grade did you learn to type in? And have you ever used an ordinary typewriter, whether it was electric or manual?

Grade 8 was the grade where we were allowed to use the school computers. We learned how to type in that class, but I already had a pretty solid grip on typing by that time. We also learned in that class how to put together a computer. That class really helped me put together my first computer from scratch last Christmas.

I also have used an ordinary typewritter. I remembered it went "CHING" every time you reached the end of a line! I would use one now if I had one.

2. What was your first home video game system and what year did you get it?

My atomic purple gameboy colour. I received it on Christmas 1998 with the entire pokemon series at the time.

3. What is the oldest car, make and model year, you can remember your family owning?

A seventh generation Pontiac Bonneville. I can't remember the year of it because it was so long ago, but my family didn't really have many luxuries as only my father was working. I remember how hot it used to get in the summer, there was no AC. To make the matter worse, it was painted black.

4. Did you ever have first generation My Little Ponies or Transformers? If so, when did you get them?

Nope.

5. Who was the earliest president, prime minister, governor, head honcho, etc. of your country that you have a first hand memory of?

Jean Chretien, a great Prime Minister. While yes, he has had a great deal of controvercies surrounding him and I am much further left than his party, I respect him as a leader. He showed courage during the time everyone was beating the war drum for a fight with Iraq.

6. Do you recall smoking being allowed in workplaces where you live? US members under 20 will generally say no but answers from other countries may vary.

Nope!

7. Did you ever use old-style roller skates instead of roller blades?

After doing some research, yes. School field trip, wore a helmet and still really hurt myself trying to figure out how to move forward. They had a training area of roughly 3 square metres with 5-7 people trying not to bump into each other in it.

8. Did you ever use a pre-Windows PC?

Yes, the Commodore 64 although windows existed at the time I used it.

9. Remember “Be kind, please rewind”?

Of course! I always rewound the tapes.

10. Name the first big blockbuster movie you recall watching in a theater that wasn't a re-release.

Toystory apparently, but I must have been way too young when I saw it. I couldnt remember seeing it in theatres and asked for my parents to buy the VHS because it looked funny. The first I actually remember is Pokemon the First Movie.

(I've done this twice. I hate you, back mouse button!)

1. What grade did you learn to type in? And have you ever used an ordinary typewriter, whether it was electric or manual?

I learned to type in the 1st grade. My school had a "technology" class to learn very basic "arts and crafts" type engineering, how to work a computer, and how to type. It was awesome. I had a typewriter as a kid, but I honestly can't tell you when we got it. I lived in my own little world wen I was a kid, so I didn't notice those kinds of things.

2. What was your first home video game system and what year did you get it?

It was  a Sega Genesis. Much like the typewriter, I don't know when I got it.

3. What is the oldest car, make and model year, you can remember your family owning?

I don't know. I've never been very car savvy, and I definitely couldn't identify cars when I was very young. I know my mom had a blue-green car from the late 1980s, and my dad had a white pickup truck when I was three.

4. Did you ever have first generation My Little Ponies or Transformers? If so, when did you get them?

I was more of a Power Ranger kind of guy.

5. Who was the earliest president, prime minister, governor, head honcho, etc. of your country that you have a first hand memory of?

Bill Clinton

6. Do you recall smoking being allowed in workplaces where you live? US members under 20 will generally say no but answers from other countries may vary.

Yes, I do remember that and I am under 20.

7. Did you ever use old-style roller skates instead of roller blades?

Yes, in fact I recall having a birthday at the nearest roller rink, but it closed the day before my birthday so we just went to the arcade instead.

8. Did you ever use a pre-Windows PC?

No.

9. Remember “Be kind, please rewind”?

I still use that phrase, actually, even though it has become completely irrelevant. :P

10. Name the first big blockbuster movie you recall watching in a theater that wasn't a re-release.

Probably Toy Story

Hylian Twilian would say that I'm old. Well, the time has come to show her how old I really am!

Just to save everyone the trouble of clicking on my profile, I'm 41.

1. What grade did you learn to type in? And have you ever used an ordinary typewriter, whether it was electric or manual? It was in 11th grade. My typing class used nothing BUT typewriters. This was before typing was deemed a crucial skill to teach kids early in school. Only once did I use a manual typewriter. I had to type out a term paper and only the room with the manual typewriters was available after normal school hours.

2. What was your first home video game system and what year did you get it? It was an Atari 2600 in 1982. I even remember their slogan: “Have you played Atari today?” I was in love with Pac-Man at the time. The home version stunk, in comparison, but I still played it to death.

3. What is the oldest car, make and model year, you can remember your family owning? My dad bought a 1969 model year Volkswagen Beetle before I was born. I can remember it because we had it until I was 7 and then he got a Ford Pinto. It never blew up, thankfully.

4. Did you ever have first generation My Little Ponies or Transformers? If so, when did you get them? Transformers in 1984. My first one was Windcharger and my second one was Mirage.

5. Who was the earliest president, prime minister, governor, head honcho, etc. of your country that you have a first hand memory of? Gerald Ford. I only have the faintest memories of him but I remember asking my mom what happened to him when Jimmy Carter was elected.

6. Do you recall smoking being allowed in workplaces where you live? US members under 20 will generally say no but answers from other countries may vary. The funny thing is, I don't remember much smoking at work when my dad took me there. But I knew from TV and movies at the time that workplace smoking was still widespread.

7. Did you ever use old-style roller skates instead of roller blades? Only roller skates existed when I was little and I got tired of falling so I never learned how to skate.

8. Did you ever use a pre-Windows PC? Yup. My dad signed us up for an online network called Prodigy in the early '90s. It was as slow as hell (dial-up) and the DOS graphics were very primitive. But it was still fun. I even developed a nice little crush on an older woman I talked to via Prodigy at the time.

9. Remember “Be kind, please rewind”? That was the slogan at a lot of video rental places in the 1980s. I don't know if it was still in vogue when VHS rentals were finally phased out in the mid-2000s or not.

10. Name the first big blockbuster movie you recall watching in a theater that wasn't a re-release. I'm 90% certain it was Star Wars. But I'm not sure if my dad took me to see it for the first time in 1977 or 1978. Before home video systems were affordable to the average consumer, the most successful movies would play again at the theater the following year.

I feel so old now :P

After reading my entry, do you STILL feel old?  :)

1. What grade did you learn to type in? And have you ever used an ordinary typewriter, whether it was electric or manual?

I learned to type "properly" in fourth grade, but I'm much faster using all hands, but my hands float around the keyboard.  I've used both an electric and a 60's Underwood typewriter - loved 'em!

2. What was your first home video game system and what year did you get it?

For my fifth birthday, my parents got me a GameCube and Sonic Adventure 2: Battle.  I cannot begin to describe the fun I had (and still have!) with that amazing machine.  One of the best Nintendo machines out there, if you asked me.

3. What is the oldest car, make and model year, you can remember your family owning?

When my brother and I were born and our house was the stereotypical black-n-white linoleum kind of place, we had a stereotypical silver Dodge minivan.  No idea where it's from or what year.

4. Did you ever have first generation My Little Ponies or Transformers? If so, when did you get them?

My brother and I each got pre-gen ponies in some Happy Meal or something, but I'm not sure if they're G1 or G2.  Anyways, they're long since gone, but we remember them fondly.  Back then, we didn't give a flying feather about gender stereotypes.  Also, I had a couple crappy McDonalds Transformers as a kid, that only had like 3 moves to change.

5. Who was the earliest president, prime minister, governor, head honcho, etc. of your country that you have a first hand memory of?

Just Stephen Harper, really.  I either didn't know or care before that.

6. Do you recall smoking being allowed in workplaces where you live? US members under 20 will generally say no but answers from other countries may vary.

There was a smoking room in a library I frequented as a kid, but that's long since been shut down.

7. Did you ever use old-style roller skates instead of roller blades?

Only three-wheelers when I was very, very little.  In retrospect, rollerskates might be more stable and fun for a weak-ankled person such as myself.

8. Did you ever use a pre-Windows PC?

I used a Mac II once this year, if that counts.

9. Remember “Be kind, please rewind”?

Only thanks to my wrinkly fruitcake teachers and librarians.

10. Name the first big blockbuster movie you recall watching in a theater that wasn't a re-release.

My memory is much different from facts, so I'm just going to play it safe by saying AVATAR.
