@,

Gladius chuckled a bit. "You'd be doing most of the drinking either way, I think. But have one for me anyway." He put away his training sword and turned to walk out of the arena. He paused for a moment and turned back. "See you tomorrow, Scar. Make sure you're ready. I'd hate for anything to happen to you." He turned and walked out.

Glory reached the temple and went in. She brought an offering of wine and honey cakes to the alter, and knelt in front of it, holding out her hooves in despair.

"Goddess, what do I do?" she whispered. "Evil is destined to breach the temple and destroy everything I hold dear. I've failed you..."

She wept, tears pouring down her face. Then, she flung her head up with a jerk as once again, she heard the goddess whispering into her ear.

"Do not worry, my dear Oracle," Vesta said. "You have not failed. You have done everything you possibly could do. Trust in myself and in the other deities. We will make this right."

Glory wiped her eyes on a hankerchief, feeling comforted and trusting in Vesta.

(Yeah, I meant to post last night, but I was distracted by other things.)

Gladius headed home from the arena and ate a quick dinner before deciding to go to bed early. He needed to be in top shape tomorrow if they were going to have a chance. As he lay in bed, he couldn't stop thinking about Diamond and hoping she was okay. Even with all the other things he had to worry about, she was still the only thing on his mind.

Meanwhile, in a plateau estate belonging to a Unicorn magistrate a new tale was about to begin. Nepotinus Braccae, one of the best (or at least most profited) lawyers in Roam was going through his speech when one of his servants approached him.

"My lord? Your Praetorian guard is here." Nepotinus smiled.

"Ah yes! Send him in!" He commanded jovially. Moments later, in trotted a grey coated pegasus pony wearing well kept, but unpolished lorica segmentata. Starkly contrasting, the twin pegasi siccae sheathed at both sides were so well polished, one could catch the glint of metal from the end of the scabbards. "How are you, my boy?" Nepotinus asked with a smile. The Praetorian bowed.

"I am well, my lord. What do you intend to do today that required my protection?" He asked. The legisperitus grinned wickedly.

"The final steps to possibly the biggest case in my career!" He declared. "That is if Aequitas does not interfere with the more delicate phases of my plans." He said the other magistrate's name with a snarl.

"I thought my lord was good friends with Consultus Aequitas?" The Praetorian asked with a raised eyebrow.

"Publicly he is my good friend and confidant, but this is my home." The older stallion spoke as if that was all the argument he needed. "Now come, my boy." He lead the armored pony out of his private chambers and across the garden. "What I need you to do for me, is watch over and protect a potential client's young daughter whilst negotiations withe her father proceed." Nepotinus explained as they walked. "See to her safety, but also show her a good time. So as not to bother her father when we are in the middle of settlement." The younger pony shivered. He had been given a similar task before. Vapidus Cidarus: THE enfente terrible! She was a spoiled little filly who had no respect for her elders, her peers, or even herself really. The biggest threat to her security was her own mouth as the Praetorian had never been tempted with foalicide before meeting her. He silently prayed to the gods, this client's daughter would at least be more bearable.

The two entered the resplendent den. "There are some very important . . . errr ones I would like you to meet." He waved his horn and the drapes that separated the den from the balcony patio parted. There stood a single unicorn mare along with two Zebra, a smaller one wearing a cloak and an impressive looking male. He easily dwarfed Nepotinus, who was otherwise quite tall himself. He wore a feathered headdress, a necklace that appeared to be made of diamond dog teeth, and straw bands hanging from his ankles above the hooves. "May I introduce, Lord Zulu, emissary of the Zevrahn people. Ave Zulu." Nepotinus saluted.

"Ave Zulu." The young stallion at his side did likewise.

"Now Zulu doesn't speak our tongue, but Rosetta knows a spell that allows her to understand and speak any language so she can be our go between." The unicorn lawyer motioned for the young interpreter to approach. He cleared his throat. "This is the one I entrust to watch over your daughter." He said somewhat slowly. "He is a former gladiator. Possibly the best swordpony in Roam. He's also very well educated and know's our ways." Rosetta repeated everything back to Zulu in a bizarre but almost hypnotic tongue. Zulu looked to the ex-gladiator, scanning him up and down. He snorted, unimpressed.

"Njoo binti." He beckoned the cloaked Zebra to his side. He spoke again and Rosetta translated.

"He says, 'this is my daughter, Zuena. She speaks your language fluently.'" The female removed the hood, and the Praetorian pegasus had to fight to keep his jaw from dropping.

She was young, but she was no filly! Her mane was braided tight to her head, which was ringed with beaded bands. Her eyes a dazzling amber, like bronze only . . . warmer.

The swordpony approached the envoy and removed his helmet, he bowed deeply to her . . . more than conduct required.

"My lady." He said at last. Zuena smiled. Then she lifted a hoof and also bowed her head in the traditional Roaman curtsy.

"It seems you are to be my escort for the oncoming days." She said quite clearly despite the accent. "Tell me, my lord, do you have a name?" She asked in rhyme.

"It's . . . Ferro Utrumque." The Praetorian answered.

((OOC: It's still me. Given the cultural restructuring, I thought it fitting to change my name to fit. As "the pen and sword, in equal accord." is Japanese, it was sort of a mismatch. So I took the latin for steel and attached it to the phrase Ad utrumque paratus (be prepared for either, implying the book or the sword.) Boils down to the same thing in the end. Amazing isn't it how culturally similar all of humanity is in certain bits of singular wisdom?))

@@Pripyat Pony,

((I kinda forgot where these two left off...so...blarg))

Diamond sat down in a big dusty armchair. She looked out the window at the lake...her house was just down the shore and...were those...lights ? "W-What ?" She asked herself, standing up and staring at her home.

Meanwhile...at Diamonds house.
Thing happily skipped through the hallway, knocking lamps off tables and pulling paintings from the walls...just for the fun of it of course.
She skipped into the kitchen to see the old rotten pancake mix all over the floor. She smiled and, using a spatula, she scraped some of the mix into a frying pan.

@@Fire Runner,

Scar watched Gladius walk off then turned to look at Fire. "Well my sweet...I think I am off to bed." He said.

@,

Chicane looked up when Diamond spoke, and he too noticed the lights on in the house. "Who's there?" he asked with concern. "I thought you said that nopony lived there but you. Do you think that somepony has broken in?"

He was tense and on edge, waiting constantly for something bad to happen as he hid with Diamond in the boathouse. Over and over again, he asked himself why a prominent senator would risk her career and life just to help out a changeling, and never got any answers.

@@Pripyat Pony,

Diamond shrugged. "I...I don't know...maybe there are guards searching the place or something...either way, its not safe to go back there." She said, sitting down.
Inside her mind she was beginning to wonder whether or not this was a good idea...

Thing was half way through eating one of the green rotten pancakes when there was a loud knock on the door. She ignored it and just kept eating.
Moments later there was a smash and several guards came running into the kitchen. "YOU...Where is Light Diamond ?" Asked one of the guards, pointing his spear at Thing as she took another bite of her food. "Oh the pretty pony who I met downstairs ? Good question...probably off being scared somewhere. She was always easy to freak ou- Stop pointing that thing it me." She said, poking at the spear as another couple guards walked into the room. "If you don't tell us where she is, we're locking you up." Said another guard. "You can try...but I doubt you'll be able too." Thing said, standing up and cracking her neck. The other guards raised their spears as she slowly stood. "There are five of us and one of you...and you are powerless. Just give up." Said a guard.
Thing just laughed. "Yes...there are more of you than there are of me...but no, I am not...Powerless." On the last word, the lights all around the house went out.
There was yelling and clanging of weapons...then...there were screams of pain and a loud *Splat*

@,

Chicane sighed, heavily. "Don't think that I'm a coward or anything," he said. "If it were only my life to worry about, I would go and give myself up, but I'm afraid that if the emperor does publicly execute me, that the Queen would take it as an act of war and go all out in an attack. I am fairly close to the Queen, so if she heard that the emperor did such a thing, that would be the last straw."

He was startled, on hearing the disturbance in the house, and laid his ears back instinctively. Something was very wrong...

@,

Mariposa and Cicada were walking thru the streets of Rome idly chatting. They were as usual in their pony disguises as a pair of sister earth ponies with grey fur and pale red manes and tails. Cicada's cutie mark was a tree, and Mariposa's a horseshoe. Cicada wasn't looking where she was going as she was facing Mariposa at the time and she bumped into a unicorn. "Oops, sorry!"

Vinyl looked up at the sisters before her. "Oh, it's alright. I'm fine. Are you?" She took in the appearance of the two and asked, "You two wouldn't happen to be twins, would you? I'm sorry, where are my manners? I'm Vinyl. And you are?"

Sorry for the filler! Can't think of anything

Mariposa smiled at Vinyl as Cicada spoke.

@@Pripyat Pony,

Diamond nodded. "That's why i'm helping you...if the Emperor is stupid enough to execute you right in front of everypony...Rome would be destroyed in a day. Plus I promised you no pony would hurt you AND, I highly disapprove of execution." She sighed as the lights all went out in her home...it was probably...then there was a faint scream...then silence.
Diamond's legs gave out and she fell back into her chair...she had seen it...

As Thing stabbed the last guard in the gut with a spoon...she felt something...somepony...watching her. She turned around and looked out the window at the old boathouse farther down the shore.
She smiled and her eyes flashed. There was a split second where she...well...it (As in her true form) appeared right outside the upstairs window before it reappeared back at the house, back to the same pink mare. She giggled and sat down to finish her food...in pitch darkness.

((I don't think Autumn is gonna post...))

Scar and Fire trotted back to their rooms. Scar said goodnight to Fire before he got into bed. He lay there...now that he was alone, the dream he had had earlier kept coming back to him...he couldn't sleep.

Chicane looked anxiously over at the main house. "What is going on there?" he asked, feeling an instinctive shiver as he did so. "Makes me think that there's something bad over there, something that's more a threat to Rome than anything else."

He paused, then said, "I'm glad you think that way. Makes me feel a little better."

Vinyl smiled back at her and gave a small, courteous bow. "It's really nice to meet you. Would you like to maybe stay at the temple? That is, if you don't have other arrangements. I'm sure Glory wouldn't mind. It's very homely and safe. There's even a barrier to keep out evil spirits."

Diamond nodded. "SomeThing...I think I know what it is..." She said, still staring at the window.

Back to the house.
Thing had finished her rotten pancakes and was moving towards the door when she stopped and stared at one of the guards bodies. His insides were covering the floor and all that was left was an empty shell of a body. Thing smiled then...moved out of the mares body.
The pink body fell to the floor as the tall monster got close to the ground. Moments later. The hollow body was standing...but it still looked dead. Its head was at an awkward angle and its whole chest and stomach were split open...

Thing grinned and walked out the door...but instead of moving towards the city, it turned into a puff of smoke and moved in the direction of...the changeling hives.

The changeling's ears were still laid back against his skull as he turned to fully face Diamond. "Would you like to talk about this... Thing, whatever it is?" Chicane asked Diamond. "It might do you good if you did."

@,

Cicada kept her smile going as she conversed quickly with Mariposa thru the mind speaking skill which all the changelings possessed, which meant they could talk with each other unheard whenever they had need of it.

"Do you think it's safe?" Mariposa asked her comrade.

"I think so," Cicada replied. "We are not evil, merely different. And we do not wish harm to either the temple or the city."

Once this was concluded, Cicada turned to Vinyl and said, "Sounds great. We would love to come to the temple."

I would have nightmares and whenever I was alone I would feel something watching me...I hated it." She said, looking down at the ground.

Cicada smiled with deceptive innocence as she and Mariposa trotted swiftly after Vinyl. At the temple, Glory looked pale and drawn but still was able to manage a welcome to the newcomers as well as Vinyl. The changelings had no problems entering the temple; as Cicada had said to Mariposa, they weren't evil and intended no harm to the temple or the city.
