SørenWolf 223 Share March 6, 2013 A friend recently showed me this article and It piqued my interest. This article is claiming that the world currently does not have enough babies to sustain our population. I would be interested to hear what you think Article: http://www.boundlessline.org/2013/03/does-the-world-have-enough-babies.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+boundlessline%2Fblog+%28Blog%3A+Boundless+Line%29 (This is an article written by a Christian and has a Bible verse in it. That is not what I want to be discussed. Lets keep it about the babies and the population please.)
Betez 1,729 Share March 6, 2013 BWAHAHAHAHAHA, are you shitting me! I think we have enough, if not more than enough babies to sustain the population. We're really overpopulated, and not too far from our carrying capacity, I don't think we're gonna die out anytime soon.
Dusty Soul 2,600 Share March 6, 2013 That is... crap. Were extremely overpopulated. Babies are born every day. There is no way we don't have enough babies to sustain our human race.
Kitty Cat Moonshire 626 Share March 6, 2013 There are enough people to sustain the population, but I don't see how we're over populated... Giving everyone 2000 sq ft to live in, we could almost fit the worlds population in the state of Texas...
MelancholicMemory 2,019 Share March 6, 2013 In the 1st world, we have about the right amount of babies to sustain us well (though Octo-mom and red-necks with 7 children really should just stop). In the 3rd world though, they really need to cut down on the baby-making. Having lots of children was necessary before to sustain their populations because of the high mortality rate, but new medications and treatments mean that children are living to adulthood, so they should make less. I think 1-3 children per person is the right amount. We certainly do not need to make any more children than we currently are. The article is ridiculous and obviously biased.
notdog1996 314 Share March 6, 2013 (edited) There are too many already... Well, at least in countries like Ethiopia and India where they get 8 babies per family average. Seriously, I wonder how the planet can handle all that. Edited March 6, 2013 by Artemis
FoxyCryptid 4,317 Share March 6, 2013 Considering the birth-to-death rare right now is around three people born for every one that dies(or at least, that's what I last heard), I'm guessing he's wrong. It looks like he averaging how many babies there are per fertile woman instead of the actual ratio of births-to-deaths.
SørenWolf 223 Author Share March 6, 2013 Seeing how most of you descided not to actually read the article. here is a small snipet of what I am talking about At the earth’s present capacity of 7 billion people, each of them could stand within the boundaries of the United States' smallest state — Rhode Island — with just enough room to swing their arms around and only occasionally hit someone else. These seven billion could live within the borders of Texas with the same population density tolerated by the inhabitants of New York City today! Too many people is not cause for fear. Too few are. now tell me that we have too many
Alex Kennedy 1,226 Share March 6, 2013 We actually don't even want to sustain our population. The world is extremely overpopulated and almost all major problems in the world are largely because of it. The real problem is that we'll end up with more elderly people than young people, and we won't have enough workers to support all the people who are retired.
Zygen 6,050 Share March 6, 2013 Well I'm going to have to say right now that I don't think thats the case. I mean if anything we're kinda overpopulated for the capacity that everyone has in terms of space. Theres a whole ton of people in the world, plenty really. I mean if anything we need less babies I guess. I'm not saying we should like kill them or something, but its not like we're in need of them.
Betez 1,729 Share March 6, 2013 Alright, alright. We may have plenty of space, but we still don't have plenty of resources. If everyone on the planet has exactly 2 kids, the population won't increase or decrease at all.
Harmonic Revelations 8,787 Share March 6, 2013 Because clearly our over population is the sign that we're not having enough babies. Seriously, we could be flinging babies off cliffs like in "300" and we'd still have a surplus population.
Clover Heart 974 Share March 6, 2013 This kind of makes me mad. While I'm not going to say that we're critically overpopulated and we need to start implementing child bearing policies, we are overpopulated. In a world where world hunger is rampant, and people don't even have enough clean water to drink, we're overpopulated. What makes me angry is the blatant misrepresentation of our situation in the world. And the whole reason they're saying this is basically to get more asses in the pews. This is a lot of the reason why many sects of Christianity (not all, but especially fundies) want you to get married young, never use any birth control, crank out a ton of kids and why homosexuality is so wrong. It doesn't create them more followers, thus giving them more money, so you're going to hell. But anyway, this really annoys me, and the whole world would be much better off without this kind of blatant dishonesty toward the people who would be most liable to believe and follow it.
Shanks 10,743 Share March 6, 2013 (edited) While I think overpopulation is a complete load of bull with the exception of some third world hell holes I think that with the exception of a few places in Europe for the most part there are enough babies to go around. Titan Rising 2,146 Share March 6, 2013 I really don't care if there are too few babies and don't really care if the human race ended 50 years from now. I don't remember signing anything saying it was my duty to populate the Earth lol.
Stary Dreams 86 Share March 6, 2013 Lol, I'm pretty sure our world has more than enough babies. We're already at 7 billion+ pop. Whoever wrote that article must've been oblivious to the world news.
Harmonic Revelations 8,787 Share March 6, 2013 Am I the only one who thinks, no, I KNOW we need to colonize other planets in order to increase the general sustainability of our species.
khaine21x3 788 Share March 6, 2013 (edited) Welfare needs to be completely abolished and sustaining the life of an elderly person should be illegal, it might be cruel but it'll lead to population reduction and better living condition. @@Clover Heart, People are not starving because there isn't enough food but rather because they have no money to buy those food and it's directly linked to puppet governments that the west put in power to oppress the poor and continue slavery. google: food landfill Not having enough clean water to drink is due to colonials powers controlling water resources of third world countries and threatening to invade if they provide clean water for their people. Display Name 448 Share March 6, 2013 Too few babies? Bwaaaaaaah! You ain't right boy. The last thing we need is more babies. I have a friend that has 16 cousins. I think we have enough..
 Badges
Lady Rarity Pony 4,883 Share March 6, 2013 There are those on one end of the spectrum prophesying doom from overpopulation and then there's those on the other side prophesying extinction from lack of babies. I don't think we're even close to any of these extremes. This is a lot of the reason why many sects of Christianity (not all, but especially fundies) want you to get married young, never use any birth control, crank out a ton of kids and why homosexuality is so wrong. Or maybe it's because Christians tend to take a stand on sexual ethics that emphasizes the value of human life and purely natural loving relations between faithfully committed married couples. If I had to take a guess I would suggest that those who accuse Christians of trying to inflate their numbers are simply projecting their own dislike of high Christian populations onto Christians in the form of nefarious, conspiratorial intentions. For the record, I don't really care about how many Christians there are in the world, so long as they're not harming anyone. However, imposing their brand of "sexual ethics" or any ethics, for that matter, tends to affect everyone, whether they're Christian or not, at least, in America. And I don't feel like they should be the ones to decide what's right for people who are completely unaffiliated We seem to be getting a bit off topic, and I'm not really looking to start a fight, but I felt the need to clarify.

JeanHover 325 Share March 6, 2013 We definitely have enough babies. In fact, it would be better if we'd have less. Soon overpopulation will become a problem, and I don't want it to end up like that move In Time.
