There's one thing I don't understand about this whole Twilicorn thing. Before, there wasn't much said about alicorns within the show. Just that Celestia, Luna and Cadance were alicorns, but other than that, there wasn't anything confirmed about commoners becoming alicorns or anything like that. However, with this most recent episode, they've basically confirmed not only that only royalty can be alicorns, but that royalty are alicorns.

Given that, how come Shining Armor never became an alicorn? You're telling me that Shining Armor, who became royalty by conventional means (born into it or through marriage) doesn't get to be an alicorn, but Twilight, who just magically, somehow not very well explained, became royalty does? That's just... lame.

Well,  the major issue here is you are assuming that pony royalty works like human royalty.

In our world when a non-royal marries a royal,  they obtain a royal title.  In equestria, this clearly just isn't what happens.    He is never refereed to as a prince, ergo he isn't an alicorn.

That may sound like a cop out answer to you,  but I'm afraid it's why.

Actually, he is considered a prince. In the episode before the finale, "Games Ponies Play," he's mentioned to be a prince and part of royalty several times in a single scene. So Shining Armor is a prince.

Perhaps only females can be allicorns? Seeing as how Sombra wasn't and all...

Or hey - maybe Hasbro just wants one of their main characters to be a princess so they can sell a power fantasy.

I guess alicorns are royalty, but royalty doesn't have to be an alicorn. Just like rectangles and squares. A square is automatically a rectangle, but a rectangle may not necessarily be a square. It might even be the case that only females ponies can become alicorns at all, judging by the evidence we have. (Firebolt, you ninja! ;)) As far as I understand, Twilight became an alicorn because she fulfilled her destiny as Element of Magic by creating new magic, and then was raised to royalty because of her new alicorn status.

Also why isnt Blueblood an Alicorn. why not Blueblood? He is badass, he is sexy, He is manly. he would make a better leader than Twilight or SA.

Twilight became a royalty by becoming an Alicorn, so why isnt BB an alicorn?

I wouldn't say he'd make a good leader, because leaders shouldn't hide behind their loyal subjects when they see a cake flying towards them. Even if they have just been groomed!

Yeah, that thought had crossed my mind as well. I just didn't want to admit it because it sounded sexist, and I hope that that's not the reason :(

*Shrugs*  very well....then let's just work off established cannon shall we.

Princess Celestia = Alicorn

PRincess Cadence = Alicorn

Princess Luna = Alicorn

Princess Twilight Sparkle = Alicorn

Prince Shining Armour = Unicorn

Prince Blueblood = Unicorn

Just for fun.

Queen Chrysalis = Alicorn (ish?)

King Sombra = Unicorn.

Looks like the pattern fits.

Chrysalis isnt an alicorn otherwise all the changelings would be one. also Sombra was never a king, he enslaved the crystal poniesmaking him their owner but not their king. and while Faust said BB was suppost to be a prince, and Cadence was suppost to be a Unicorn.

Nooooo! The show I love is sexist against stallions! This is, absolutely

*purposely being melodramatic* I hope that they can have some stallion alicorns someday, though...

The changelings all are alicorns, having both wings and horns. And Sombra was called a King by the crystal ponies and by Celestia herself, and lived in a palace, so yes, he was a King. Finally, regardless of what Lauren Faust intended, Cadance is an alicorn too.

Okay then why did you say only females can be alicorns when the changelings that you just said are all alicorns seem masculine-ish?

Also Even if he is the king he wasnt born royalty, he enslaved the kingdom to become one.

Insect alicorn,   flower alicorn, whatever you wish to call her,  she is a Changeling Alicorn.

you know how the saying goes,  A rose by any other name.......  As far as ponies are concerned, she is an alicorn,  a different species of one,  but still an alicorn.

Also, I say this respectfully "Supposed to"  is never, a valid argument.  Ever.  Napoleon was "supposed to" have an easy time in Russia.  Cheetamen was "supposed to" be a good game with its own toy line.  Just because something was "supposed to" happen,  doesn't give it any bearing.

Well, they definitely have wings and horns, but I think the bigger issue is whether they're actually ponies.Their silhouette is pony-shaped, but they have all those holes in them (or whatever they are) which isn't typical of normal ponies. They also possess the power to change shape, which, as far as I know, is a power that only they possess. Furthermore, even if they are ponies, whether they're alicorns is questionable. Yes, they're ponies with wings and horns, but Changlings may be yet another form of pony altogether.

The changelings seem very much like insects, social insects, at that. Many species of social insects have a Queen (female) and workers who are also female. In such species, males are called drones, and exist for the sole purpose of breeding. I'd say changelings tick most of those boxes, which would make them more likely to be female than male. So the "only females can be alicorns", which I admitted is not proven but does seem to be the case, would still not be disproven by the existence of the changelings.

If shes an Alicorn then all of the changelings are alicorns.

Also Cadence and the two sisters seemed to me like the only alicorns besides Twily at the finale. implying She was a special case and not all royaltys are alicorns

You may be right. but the changeling gender or Chysalis even if they count as alicorn they dont really effect this theory.

Heres something that may change this debate, the Alicorn Amulet clearly looked like a stallion

I do not follow the logic chain you are presenting.

Cadence, Luna, Celestia are alicorns,   twilight is made into an alicorn,  ergo not all royals are alicorns?

Chyrsalis is just another female alicorn.   Changlings themselves are not ponies, ergo they may or may not have any influence on the "alicorn/unicorn" pattern.   But then again, there is much about changelings we don't know.  We assume chrysalis is female simply due to her title of "queen" but for all we know they may be gender neutral.   Regardless, even if you exclude them all together,  there are 4 examples of females being alicorns,  and 2 examples of males being unicorns.

Okay the Alicorns are so far all female right? However in alot of "Male" Show such as Naruto Where there was four Hokages and they were all males until later on Tsunadi Became one. MLP might last 7 seasons and alot of ponies are going to appear

My Little Pony isn't Naruto,  I once do not understand what logic chain you are using.

Hokages in Naruto are Male and Female,  ergo Alicorns in MLP:FIM will be male and female.

I am just saying that Alicorns have yet to be fully Discussed in the actual show, Them being "gods" Has always been a fanon. We should wait until we see the Alicorn Subject being fully explored in the actual show until we make assumations

Then there is no point in most discussion even existing.   Literally,  that is why it's a discussion,  reviewing what information we have. That information currently points to "male royals are unicorns,  female royals are alicorns"

maybe in 7 seasons that will change...maybe not.  If it does, it does,  but waiting for something that may never come...well....it's exactly as it sounds.

I say we make that temporary canon ;) at least until it is proven wrong. Being an Alicorn has always seemed like an elegant thing so i'm not sure it would suit a stallion the way it does a mare.

You will see, just like everybody was shocked at RD having a dad.

So only Females and Metrosexuals can be Alicorns? I will ponify Ryan Seacrest and make him an alicorn then  :umad:

I dunno about you, but in my opinion, I think Shining Armor looks pretty amazing with a pair of wings. Who says a gentleman can't be elegant?  ;)
