Anyone Here Into Construction?

Hello, JTP Here. I take up carpentry at my vocational high school. I am currently working on a house project, which is far into production. Our school has students work on real houses for real people during Junior and Senior years.

So I was wondering: Anyone here into construction at all? I would sure like to discuss that! :)

My father is a construction worker. Although I can't say I intend to follow his footsteps, I've done some construction work with him and enjoyed it. We've done remodeling around the house.

I also helped with the set this year of the high school play production a little. I got to slam a door to make sure it was sturdy enough. :D

^Flooring I worked on a couple weeks now. We are doing finish work and making the deck for the house. It is a very nice one. I love working on it! :)

I've done quite a few trades save for plumbing and roofing. I could probably build an entire house if I had the money or at least run the show so-to-speak. I've even put a nail through the joint of my big toe with a numatic nailer. (yeah, it hurt more then a Barak Obama's presidential leadership) I'm not into construction anymore though. Too many many injuries and they're taking a toll now...

Just have to be careful and use common sense. It can be a dangerous trade if the proper cautions aren't used...

By the way, at least you didn't have a rafter fall on your head..

Actually I didn't hurt at all. I just thought I'd let you know that.

The house I built last year was a big project and a big pain to do. I have to tell you: pinewood interior finish BLOWS.

Yeah I just brought in some supplies for the renovation in my barn. Fixing up the whole place, top to bottom.

*Looks behind me*

Uh LOT'S OF CONSTRUCTION GOING ON!

"You heard him. Construction."

I've done few odd jobs with my family, I helped lay down linoleum the other day, as well as sub-floor and self-stick tile in another room of the same house.

Tearing the old floor up was the hard part, it was rotten and moldy/

Sounds like a fun project. I hope the renovating goes well. Start from the top and go to the bottom. That way no one gets hurt.

I know this because I got my OSHA Certification last year.

I'm not very experienced in it but I'm taking a construction class at my school too. My class hasn't but I know the COOP program is involved in a house-building project. We do simple little projects in my class though. Our first project was making a push stick, the second a jewellery box and the third and current project is... some sort of table. I'm not really sure what to call it but it's basically a fancy end table with a shelf.

Ah I see. I remember my first project: It was during exploratory. I was making a tool holder. my next project would be bird houses. Very fun stuff. Carpentry is best learned through hands on.

Indeed. I knew nothing about woodworking when I signed up for the Construction course but I've only been in the class for... Three months I think and I already feel like I know all the equipment we use. I couldn't do maintenance of course but I work the machinery pretty easily.

Well, I'm taking Drafting class, and that counts a bit as construction, it's pretty fun but hard to keep up in at times.

Yeah, construction is very interesting.

Yeah I used to handdraft in related. It is fun when you know what you are doing, but it can get pretty difficult. There is also the CAD program, but I prefer hands on.

I've always enjoyed working with my hands and having worked in carpentry for ten years it can be rather entertaining. While it is not my specialty as I graduated university I decided I would try to finish both carpentry and my masters degree aiming for a doctorate.
