Tucker 5 April 13, 2013 Share April 13, 2013 Hi. I need help to draw fan art. I draw every second I get, but I NEVER get any better. Can someone help me on what I should do? I draw it out on paper, scan it to my printer, and paint in GIMP, but the results suck. Help?

Tucker 5 April 13, 2013 Author Share April 13, 2013 I WOULD use Sai, if I had money. And I'll post them, don't worry. Ill reply again when they're up. I redraw what I draw, (drawception), so I get better, but the first drawing looks better.

If a good artist had to use a program such as MS Paint, he/she would still be able to make good art. Look at references and redraw. Redraw and redraw. Look up tutorials on how to draw ponies, there should be some good ones on deviantart. Otherwise the only way to get better is to draw and draw again. Errr, there is a free version floating around the internet somewhere that actually has some bonus stuff added in on it. Edit: found it http://sai.detstwo.com/sai/ Edited April 13, 2013 by zDashiez
Anadu Kune 666 April 13, 2013 Share April 13, 2013 (edited) I think you may be focusing too much, yes that can happen. Loosen up a bit and relax when drawing, try not to get frustrated. You need to learn the basics principals as well. I will post some helpful links below. Some of them will involve human poses, just take the principles and apply them to ponies. hope these help.Starting out with a basic line of action is important as it lays the foundations for the entire pose and serves as a guide line for the drawing as a whole. http://artists.pixelovely.com/gesture-basics-1-line-of-action/http://mattjonezanimation.blogspot.com/2011/09/line-of-action.htmlDrawing with volume is what makes a 2 dimensional picture feel three dimensional. pony stuffhttp://flintofmother3.deviantart.com/art/Tutorial-Drawing-with-volume-52042636pony stuffhttp://i.imgur.com/koe2v.jpghttp://arch.413chan.net/how_to_draw_pony_bodies-(n1298445298404).pnghttp://www.equestriadaily.com/2011/01/pony-drawing-guides.html Edited April 13, 2013 by Anadu Kune
Tucker 5 April 13, 2013 Author Share April 13, 2013 This is the latest one I did. Someone else already drew it, so I drew it. I have others in a binder, but I'm gonna find it tomorrow morning. But of course I don't want to copy others. Im just trying to find a way that I can use my own drawing style, but still look legitimate to be passed as fan art.

MuLeKsI 161 April 13, 2013 Share April 13, 2013 Hi. I need help to draw fan art. I draw every second I get, but I NEVER get any better. Can someone help me on what I should do? I draw it out on paper, scan it to my printer, and paint in GIMP, but the results suck. Help? Well, my advice would be to use MS Paint rather than GIMP. Also, you could try finding a picture or a pose you really like and drawing it by hand using the example. It's not called copying, it's called training. After training for a bit and learning the basics you can start forming your own style. This is how I did it, might not work for everypony tho.
