Roger Boyd 3 April 16, 2013 Share April 16, 2013 i personally think its great i think it also adds more to the show to see characters like discord and trixie from a differant perspective what do you all think
Snowdream 221 April 16, 2013 Share April 16, 2013 NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE... Okay, look I'm sorry but, I don't really like it when the villan goes good... It all seems to be too perfect to me. This is just MY opinion though, I understand and respect you if you disagree!!
Invisible_Mango 10 April 16, 2013 Share April 16, 2013 I think discord is still gonna be evil. Either he's being deceptive, or something will happen that changes his mind... or he'll get tempted by evil or something... he's just gotta come back and be evil again. He's far too awesome of a villain not to.
Memory Lane 129 April 16, 2013 Share April 16, 2013 I liked Discord as a villain. Kinda wish they never changed that. He was the perfect antagonist. He didn't use violence, he played mind games...my favorite kind. I'm fine with everyone else being redeemed.
Circadian 1,271 April 16, 2013 Share April 16, 2013 The solution: make more villians! Or better yet, make the relationships between the characters more complex! There, I solved My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic for you.
Jokuc 8,165 April 16, 2013 Share April 16, 2013 (edited) I disagree. I do not like when villains* are turned from evil to good. Well at least not when it all happens within a short period of time. All this about Discord becoming good is something I dislike, since he is supposed to be the master of chaos and therefore he should not be able to change himself in such a way. Trixie however is someone I believe can go from mean to friendly. Though I think that she did this waaaaay too fast in the Magic Duel episode. Delirium 208 April 16, 2013 Share April 16, 2013 It depends on who it is for me. I didn't mind Trixie going good, Discord however? eh, I would have preferred they kept him as a villain, i'm not completely against the idea of making him go good but I liked him as a villain much more.
Keezuw 107 April 16, 2013 Share April 16, 2013 Keep Discord and Queen Chrysalis as villains. I just wish they could all team up or something, and make one badass episode. AND THEN EVERYONE IN EQUESTRIA GANG UP TOO, AND MAKE IT AN EVEN MORE BADASS EPISODE! Yupp. Ps, I kinda like that Trixie episode. It's sorta sweet in a way, how she treats Snips and Snails and the whole wheel thing. Ahahaha. But yeah. She's an exception. Everyone else just team up and schtuff.
Nature's Spell 524 April 16, 2013 Share April 16, 2013 The problem with reforming every bad guy is that the writers are forced to create new ones. This means they can't make the existing bad guys deeper and more textured. This is especially true for comical bad guys like Discord (maybe Trixie) who cause harm, but also force the ponies to think on different levels.
pinkiefan1287 610 April 16, 2013 Share April 16, 2013 Well I guesses it deepens on who it is. I'm not to bothered by the fact that they made Discord and Trixie good. I feel like these 2 are good redeemable characters. Also Discord does not seem to evil to me anymore. He did not want to take over the world and make everyone live in a harsh world. He just wanted life to be a little more fun in his own kinda way. Now keep Somber, Chrysalis, and the changelings evil.
Betez 1,731 April 16, 2013 Share April 16, 2013 I don't really consider Trixie to be that much of a villain, more of an Antagonist. I think Discord is really the only villain turned good.
Harmonic Revelations 8,829 April 16, 2013 Share April 16, 2013 I dislike villain redemptions when they are over done. I just don't like when villains are redeemed like Walmart coupons, because eventually, the writers will run out of villains.
 Badges
Chuckles4lyfe 440 April 16, 2013 Share April 16, 2013 You know what, I may be in the minority when I say this, but I actually like it when villains are redeemed in shows . Mind you, if the MLP staff redeemed every single villain that they've ever had on the show, that would take away any future conflict for the mane 6 to tackle and we would be left with a place where being evil will only be temporary. Trixie and Discord being reformed are fine in my book, but more villains will need to be introduced if they continue this trend (which I don't have a problem with... bring on new villains for season 4 )!
Scootalove 10,672 April 16, 2013 Share April 16, 2013 Well for now, when Discord was redeemed it should only be a one-time thing. If they decided to redeem every single villain, the villain percentage would be 0% by the time Season 4 starts.
PrincessShadowRose 6 April 16, 2013 Share April 16, 2013 I miss Nightmare Moon. I agree with the majority of this thread, villains should stay villains. As long as Chrysalis stays evil I won't complain about everything being perfect...yet.
Shift 4,265 April 16, 2013 Share April 16, 2013 I dislike when antagonist are turned to good. Nightmare Moon was an exception. As long as Chrysalis isn't redeemed, and Discord is secretly evil, i'll be OK. They can redeem a handful, though, however redeeming Trixie and Discord in thirteen episodes was a bit too much.
Phoenix237 351 April 17, 2013 Share April 17, 2013 It depends on the villan we are talking about If its small villans like Gilda or Trixie (she is already reformed In a way, but I'm using we as an example) then ya it could work Even some characters like Discord could work if done right. However I find it hard to come up with a way to redeem say King Sombra. He was just evil and I see no way of redeeming him unless we take away his shadow powers and that corrupted him, but that would need a backstory So all In all it depends in the character and the situation. Shanks 10,794 April 17, 2013 Share April 17, 2013 I will admit that I am a sucker for a good redemption story and that is much of the reason I like Luna as much as I do but I think that though the episode was good Discord was reformed a little too quickly for my taste. Discord wasn't the most evil villain introduced by a longshot but he is the embodiment of chaos which is neutral, the only reason why he seemed evil to the ponies was because he caused chaos for the sake of chaos and didn't care how it affected the ponies. And most of the minor antagonists though they had their share of character flaws really weren't that evil to begin with. Trixie for example was extremely arrogant and irresponsible for her claims that she defeated an Ursa Major while not even bothering to consider that somepony might want to see that. Sure she was dictator of Ponyville for a short while and she does bear some responsibility as she was warned that the Alicorn Amulet was dangerous but she wasn't exactly herself when she wore it. There are some villains though that I do not believe can be redeemed or should be like Queen Chrysalis and King Sombra, King Sombra especially.
Freewave 1,144 April 17, 2013 Share April 17, 2013 Thing about Discord is he could easily bounce back. He's modeled after Q from Star Trek NG because it's by the same actor and Picard always had a good back and forth with whether he was causing harm or just testing him. In the end Discord as an ally isn't a bad thing if he gets more screen time although i think he's going to EVER be Celestia's soldier. More likely he'll cause as many problems as he fixes. Trixie is Trixie. She does best when she's antagonizing people and that hasn't really stopped. I don't know if she'll reappear unless they can make it an interesting appearance as the rematch is complete. She's still the self-centered charcter she always has been. Magic Man 221 April 17, 2013 Share April 17, 2013 (edited) I think what a lot of us forget is that a redemption episode does NOT necessarily mean a villain is going from absolute evil to being good, it could easily be the villain no longer trying to kill the heroes and sometimes be on their side if the situation calls for it. I mean, with Discord, they pulled it off pretty well, because he has not become a goody two-shoes, he remains his trickster, underhanded personality, he's just going to be working alongside the ponies rather than against them now. Of course, they are limits to this. For me, it's mostly down to the writing, but the actual character in question is important. So what other villains are there that could or not be redeemed even in the loosest sense? Let's see, there's Chrysalis and Sombra I can think of right now. Chrysalis: She would have to be as far as I could possibly go, and even then, I don't think it could be as much as Discord. With Chrysalis, it's her motives that just about save her from me seeing her as irredeemable, only really because the reason behind those motives are pretty vague (is she doing what is best for her people, or just greedy and wants to get a power boost). If the episode was done REALLY WELL, then yes, it could work. I can see it working as Chrysalis deciding to no longer antagonize the ponies leave them be and perhaps develop a newfound respect for them. That way the Changeling threat is neutralized but they're not friends either. Changelings as a whole: As I do not believe in ALways Chaotic Evil, I do not believe all Changelings are evil and thus in need of a redemption story. An episode featuring good or at least neutral Changeling would be fine with me. Sombra: Sombra will simply have to be one too far for me, because really, he's actually made out to be less than a fleshed out character than an embodiment of evil for the MLP universe. He's their Sauron and the Liche. Edited April 17, 2013 by Magic Man
8bitBrony 31 April 17, 2013 Share April 17, 2013 I was kind for Discord geting redeemed. I never really saw him as truly evil, so when I heard about it I kind hyped about it. But if they just Reformed every villain than would just be kind of a bummer for me.
Sweet Dreams 1,891 April 19, 2013 Share April 19, 2013 I'd like it better if they didn't, actually. Sure, I wouldn't mind if one or two more are redeemed, but I don't want them to change any more than that. Also, unlike some, I don't really see how a Queen Chrysalis redemption would work. I mean, she feeds off love. Even if she wanted to be redeemed, she needs to feed off of love to survive, and this would just make everypony else weak. I dunno, that's just my opinion
Viridian Daybreak 65 April 22, 2013 Share April 22, 2013 I think redeeming characters goes with the theme of the show (Discord's still gonna be antagonistic, that's just how he is. I honestly like how he can still be seen as a friend of the Mane 6. He's awesome, I'd rather he's not turned to stone after each episode with him...) of love, friendship, and forgiveness. They have a little girl audience. Why teach them that bad people are bad no matter what? Everyone has good inside of them... I don't really see how a Queen Chrysalis redemption would work. I mean, she feeds off love. Even if she wanted to be redeemed, she needs to feed off of love to survive, and this would just make everypony else weak. Okay, an idea that just occurred to me: Maybe if somepony loved Chrysalis she wouldn't need to steal it from ponies. That could be why she goes to forceful measures to obtain love, 'cause nopony likes the weirdo changelings. Not necessarily romance (though that is preferable ), but friendship. (is magic)
100 beasts kaidou 321 June 15, 2013 Share June 15, 2013 I mean its very annoying. Why redeem Gilda when She would become Rainbow No.2, Why redeem Flim and Flam when All what they want is money, Why redeem iron Will when He NEVER did anything wrong, Why redeem Chrysalis when there is no point to that, Why redeem King Sombra when He is pretty much the most sick and twisted Villain so far, Why redeem Lightning Dust When she would become RD No.3 Next to gilda, Why redeem Blueblood when he would become A bland gary stu Prince Charming. arent Trixie and Discord enough! Why cant those characters return without having to be redeemed. Its takes away all the Intrest. So it bothers me when a brony says Antagonist X should return and be redeemed.
