I am fine with male, but if I had a choice I'd choose someone female.

it would be interesting for Star Song and Snow Song to meet though, theyd probably be surprised at the similarity in their names, and common interest in music.

I have absolutely no problem with Rachel finding Diliges, I feel like their interaction could be interesting, him being the semi eccentric fellow that he is.

So after some research, I have uncovered some interesting things.

 

First and least significantly, I didn't have to have Ulysses go through that whole ritual to get out of the car, since K-9 Unit vehicles are equipped with a 'door popper', a button the press and it opens the back doors for their dogs automatically.

 

The other one that holds more credence to everyone but me, is that Changelings were actually a thing from European folk lore. In the folk lore, they were something that was left in place of a kidnapped human child to absorb the love from the child's parents.

 

I have come up with a small head canon around this that might be interesting (but definitely not necessary, as this might get depressing). Since Changelings can't support a foal growing inside of them, and the offspring have to be removed and placed in the growth pod things, maybe after the Changeling foal is out of the stage where it is required to be in a pod, it subconsciously feeds off the love from its parents and the hatchery workers, but sometimes that isn't enough? Perhaps sometimes the Changelings have to kidnap a pony foal and replace it with their offspring, using some of their own transformation magic to cause the foal to appear as the kidnapped one, and the Changeling can then subconsciously feed off of the love that is being shown to it by its 'parents', the love that was meant for the kidnapped foal?

 

But why wouldn't the love of the other Changelings be enough? Because it is very difficult to feed off another Changeling's emotions.  It isn't impossible for a fully mature Changeling, but they have to focus to do it, and it is very rare to be able to do so nowadays. A young one who subconsciously feeds wouldn't be capable of doing this.

 

It is part of my head canon that Changelings cannot sense/see the emotions of their fellow Changelings. They can understand the feelings of others so well, but their own kind are the biggest mystery to them.

 

What becomes of the kidnapped foal however? Are they raised by the Changelings as well? Sort of. They are placed in a kind of suspended animation spell, but also a linking spell, both of which are unique to Changelings. The suspended animation spell would put them into a kind of comatose state, and when coupled with the linking spell, feel as if they are living their life, despite the fact that it is indeed the Changeling. The Changeling in their place will believe that they are undergoing to pony's life, which they are, but they will have on seperate feeling that is not covered by the linking spell: They know they are different. They will never speak of it, but will know that when the Changelings that have been secretly watching them their whole life come to take them back to the Hive - usually when they get to the age where they have to physically focus on absorbing love and other emotions - They know that is where they belong. The foal they replaced is then replaces them, and continues their life as if nothing happened, completely unaware that the first few years of their life is nothing but shared memories.

 

There is another method that Changelings may use that implement the linking/comatose spells. The adult ponies they kidnap to replace are placed in the exact same state, and given a life in an Inception-esque kind of world. They are dreaming, but unaware of it. The Changelings can influence their dreams slightly - causing this to serve as another form of training to understand a pony's behavior depending on certain stimuli, but isn't nearly as reliable as experiencing them firsthand - And when they place their offspring in the same sort of state, adding them into the two pony's dream world as if it was their own child, it can feed off the love that they don't know they are feeling. The Changelings that are raised in this way are usually not as mentally developed as the rest, and thus they are the more somewhat single-minded individuals. Changelings that replaced a foal and were raised by Pony parents are usually better at understanding pony behavior and cultures, and are better at impersonation.

Again, this is just something I came up with today at work, so you guys don't need to accept/incorporate it if you don't want to. But I would like to hear your feedback. Criticism? Suggestions? Fire away!

@@Hypn0ticD, I have an idea. I believe Princess Luna is attempting to regulate this conflict through their dreams. I believe she and Celestia have found this way to achieve cross-world communication. Maybe they are using this chance to achieve a more peaceful resolution since you know Earth is a neutral ground. Or it could be something else if you want. Whatever happens i will attempt to "teach" important lessons that may refer to the changelings themselves too... So.... you guys liked that? I mean the dream. Just mention me when you want this to happen.

Also, I thought we might take a look at some of the head-cannon we've established about ponies so far:

 

-No computing

-Stoves, which are apparently gas-fired

-Yet Equestria has very little urban development compared to first-world Earth countries

-Ponies are 'not as free with their feelings' as humans

-Ponies cry easily

-Ponies fall in love easily

-Ponies expect 'the stallion to pay for the mare'

-Ponies expect both parents to share household responsibilities equally, such as in the raising of a child

-Changelings are...fo-shizzle kind of stuff

-Ponies wear clothes primarily for special occasions

-Ponies feel naked without hair coats

-Ponies don't notice being naked without hair coats

-Ponies have trouble adapting to a bi-pedal body

-Ponies have no trouble adapting to a bi-pedal body

-Ponies are confused by 'shiny' technological objects

-Ponies have little trouble with shiny objects but are primarily confused by elevators and Google

 

Not to mention everything I'm missing. XD  I's a screwed up world we're building, fillies and gentlecolts...
