Hdc 155 May 6, 2013 Share May 6, 2013 I feel that way all the time... like with this thread right here. I keep asking myself "What am I really contributing?" Rainblow H. Ash 5,091 May 6, 2013 Share May 6, 2013 I feel that way all the time... like with this thread right here. I keep asking myself "What am I really contributing?" Well... what AM I really contributing right now? You contributed a Pinkie Pie smilie! Excellent work, cadet! But seriously, it very rarely does stop me from posting. If it's a subject I only have a passing interest in, I'll pass it up and just move on. I have read topics on here, however, that have over fifty pages and then posted. I just have to read everypony's post before I post, unless it's a topic that doesn't require something like that. #bringbackmerriwetherwillaims
Commander Urdnot 2,680 May 6, 2013 Share May 6, 2013 (edited) I don't understand that logic. If I like the topic, and feel like typing up a reply, then I'll do so. The number of replies to the thread in question is a minute detail which doesn't really matter in the long run. Just because your post is in a big thread with lots of replies doesn't necessarily mean you won't get praise and recognition for it. If your post is good, and people like it, then it will receive praise and recognition. It's not about how many replies are in the thread, it's about how good your post is, and whether or not people like it enough to give it the praise and recognition that you desire. If your post doesn't receive praise and recognition, it's not because you posted in a thread with lots of replies, it's because people didn't find your post to be good enough for them to go out of their way to give it praise and recognition. Luna's Husbando 61 May 6, 2013 Share May 6, 2013 As someone who more likely than not has ADD, having to sift through threads with hundreds or even thousands of replies seems really painstalking and off-putting to me. I'll still try to read through at least some of the posts before posting though, just to make sure I'm not repeating something that's already been said. Threads with a lot of replies are usually some of the more interesting threads anyway.

Dark Horn 430 July 14, 2013 Share July 14, 2013 Er, no. Why would you feel shy about such a thing? That's silly, and absolutely absurd if you ask me. But that's just me. Lost 1,410 July 15, 2013 Share July 15, 2013 I don't feel shy about posting, I just don't post in topics that I can't think of anything decent to contribute with. I don't post very often anymore because few topics seem to interest me enough to actually think about posting in, I read a lot of topics though, and I read nearly every post in them. 2 Your friendly neighborhood alcoholic motorcyclist Life is too short to worry what others think of you, be creative, be weird, live life. Onylex 2,837 July 15, 2013 Share July 15, 2013 Im not really all to shy when it comes to posting, it just seems that a lot of topics dont really pull me into posting something about it. duidamasterXD 9,627 July 15, 2013 Share July 15, 2013 @@Big Jack, On a slightly ironic note, we already happened to have a thread for this, so yours has been merged with the older one. I used to feel that way, but I agree with what Urdnot said above. I just do my best to contribute something meaningful and worthwhile (as much as a post on a forum can be of course )
Inactive01 5,299 July 15, 2013 Share July 15, 2013 For me, the real problem is that when there's a lot of posts already made, it'll be more likely that my thoughts on the subject were already spoken by another person, so it would feel that I'm just repeating myself. Even in threads that aren't replied to much, I still feel this sense of laziness to post because the thread won't be seen by many people. Thus, my willingness to post at all would just depend on my mood.
Justin ZW 396 July 15, 2013 Share July 15, 2013 It's not that I'm shy about posting, rather that when I see a thread with a thousand posts that I just don't want to take the time to read them all. SCS 7,537 August 4, 2013 Share August 4, 2013 I am not put off by threads that have a lot of replies. Whether or not I feel like posting in a thread is largely determined by the content of the thread at hand and my present mood, not how many times it has been replied to. Lunas Husband 2,777 August 4, 2013 Share August 4, 2013 Yeah I do sometimes, if someone has already kind of said what I'm trying to say then yeah I don't post anything because what I wanted to say well its be said so what's point of posting something their, sure I could reword it but I have that fear that some pony is going to get all butt hurt and think I'm just copying what they said. Moon Rat 4,772 August 4, 2013 Share August 4, 2013 Honestly, it depends on how I'm feeling at the moment or whether or not the topic at hand motivated me enough to make a response. Sometimes, if I do see a thread has a ton of posts, I'll see what it's about first... If it interests me enough, then i may make a reply to it however, if the topic in question ends up becoming a war on opinions, I will end up shying away from it big time ps: when I say "war on opinion" I'm referring to when the topic becomes a shouting match and when I see mental fangs coming from the other posts... Those kinda scare me... Thank you Nas for the sig :3 #HugWoona
Scootalove 10,689 August 4, 2013 Share August 4, 2013 I would still post even if the thread has a lot of posts, since I took my solemn vow to post on threads when I first joined. Gigapony 650 August 4, 2013 Share August 4, 2013 It depends on the thread, but yes I do feel that often. On a thread like this one where the OP is asking a question where each member will have a unique reply (asking for opinions on something, personal experiences, polling, etc) then I will usually reply because the thread is meant to be a large collection of posts from as many members as possible. Though I will sometimes feel like I'm lost among the crowd. However, on discussion threads (asking about something on the show, theories, something requiring factual answers or where there's only one "correct" answer) I'll tend to stay away if there's already a lot (two pages worth) of replies. The reason being that the answer was probably already given and repeated a million times so what's the point in me parroting it? Those threads also tend to have people who haven't read the whole thread prior to posting.
Discordian 6,015 August 4, 2013 Share August 4, 2013 (edited) Absolutely. More often than not people don't read other people's posts (I try to keep up once in awhile but sometimes there's nothing worth replying to that I would have anything decent to say to) so they just answer or reply to the first post and they are done with the topic unless someone quotes them or something, which doesn't happen cuz people are too obsessed with replying to the first post and not reading anyone else's. On the other hand, if it has more than 30 posts then anything I would have to say has likely been said already and few people are gonna read past the second page unless a topic is coming-of-the-new-age levels of awesome which are rare to find these days. There are a few exceptions though. Threads like Crispy's Metal Thread where we just post and talk about metal all day (shoutout to RD92 and his rock thread too though!) since people ONLY pay attention to the latest posts for the most part so someone is gonna see your post one way or another. Sommar 1,289 March 29, 2015 Share March 29, 2015 It honestly depends on the topic. If it's a topic that requires a long answer, then I might not post (think debate pit). But if it's a topic that doesn't need a whole page reply, then I'll post. I try to contribute to a wide variety of threads, but there are some in which I don't have an opinion/I'm too lazy to post in.
Moonlight 7,286 March 29, 2015 Share March 29, 2015 Anything past two pages is usually when I don't post (take this thread for example where there's 3 pages and I'm posting), I feel uncomfortable and intimated by all those replies. I don't mind it much in the forum games/lounge section but anywhere else makes me scared, especially when out of several pages worth of posts, people like to quote me specifically and try to start shit (even when someone else may have the exact same post as me), so i like to avoid posting altogether for the most part. Posting in bigger threads is always a negative experience for me, but even in smaller threads it's an unpleasant experience, a thread having a lot of replies just likes to multiply the negativity. 1 matching setups with my bff pathfinder
