I'm like 30 and wtf is this?

Seriously, who cares?  Some people get hot and bothered from blondes making out in a tub of whipped cream.  Others feel a strong affinity for wolves running down fresh rabbit tracks at dawn.  A few people get all a'twitter over the imagined sensation of soft paws padding along a lonely road.

What of it?  I'm not furry, and afaik I've never even met one.  But I guess they're out there, and probably cross-over into the FiM community to an appreciable extent.  Buck if I care.

Furries are just people with a different interest than others that is looked down upon by society....like bronies.

You could almost say they're our cousins... Both our fandoms share similar traits. We both have a sexual side of our fandoms. We, have cloppers, and furries have 'yiffers', I believe the term is. We also both have personas, we have 'original characters', and they have 'fursonas'.

My opinion on furries? They're completely fine with me, and I believe they're absolutely normal people, they're just looked down upon because they enjoy something that the majority of the international society does not. (us for an example).

Just a side note; I've been hearing that there is a "war" against furries and bronies, both fandoms insulting, trolling, hacking one-another. My question towards that is, "Why?"

I've Got to Say They're Very Similar In My Mind, They Have The Same Traits,

In My Mind There's Nothing Wrong With Them,

They're Just Like Us, Looked At The Same Way, To Some,

And Well We Might Not Have Everything In Common, But We Are Similar,

As Of In my Mind, There's Nothing Wrong

I agree with Lui and Sapphire, I have no prejudices or bad opinions towarsd furries...

I got called (or asked, in time) if I was a furry when people recognized I´m a Brony... I wouldn´t use the term furry on myself, but the reason is just: I have no real idea what the definiton is (is there one).

Two things  I know are: I´ve met quite a few furries, and they are cool people, and second: they are looked down upon by the same people that look down on bronies...

That´s just a matter of tolerance, and I don´t see any reason for this kinda behaviour... it´s confusing. (and maybe a tad bit annoying)

No problems with furries, here. :)

Live and let live, I say. They're just going against the grain of society like we are, just by somewhat different means. We have nothing against them, they have nothing against us. Only judge individuals who've genuinely wronged/hurt you, not groups. Even then be as quick to forgive as possible.

I'm a furry. Been one much longer than I've been a brony. Never really understood why furries get so much BS poured over us. We're just as much human as the next person, we just like different things. In that aspect, it's not much different from being a brony. I admit that what originally got me into the furry fandom was the more... "mature" content, but that was when I was like 13, and let's face it, who isn't a bit of a perv in that age :P These days the content I follow is less mature though. And many artists who draw mature content make amazing SFW-stuff too! Like for example my favourite furry artist Jay Naylor draws lots of M-rated comics, which provide a part of his income, but he also has amazing free SFW webcomics on his website.

I'd say being a brony and being a furry are very close to each other, and I'd recommend for every brony to check out furry-stuff too. There's a high chance of you liking it ;)

I've heard when browsing the net that people who are Furries are also likely to be Bronies and wondering your thoughts on this were.

My Little Pony is part of the furry genre (although not officially, since furry isn't a mainstream term. The content is furry), so naturally furries tend to be drawn to the show, and some of them become bronies. In the same way, some bronies may find an interest in the furry aspects and some of them become furries.

Hmm.

Furries really are just a hyper mutation of bronies, although I'm sure they were around far longer than bronies were.

There's a bit of overlap between the two fandoms, but the origins of both have nothing to do with each other, bronies are fans of one particular cartoon, furries are fans of talking, and/or humanoid animals. The only common point between bronies and furries is that MLP features talking animals (which may attract furries to it and introduce bronies to the furry fandom as a result).

I was/used to be a furry. Have been for SEVERAL years. I've kinda grown out of it a little, or I just lost some interest in it over time. I got in to it from a very close friend of mine online. Me and her used to play a ton of Starcraft together, and one day she told me she was a furry. I didn't know what it was and she explained the base principle of it to me and I kinda liked to sound of it. It got to the point where I made my own fursona, participated in large roleplays, everything. A few years ago I started to drift away from the fandom because of a lack of friends (Growing up, ya know? :( ) and the inability to keep up with the newer generation of furries coming in to the fandom. I still chat with her from time to time when she hops on, and I've got three or four other friends I've made while in the fandom but I really don't associate myself with it anymore.

But yeah, I can safely say Furries used to be the bronies. They were looked down upon HEAVILY, constantly under fire (godhatesfurries.com/furfags and other even more horrible names =() But it was something to love, something to be apart of. Albeit not nearly as friendly and as accepting as the brony community is now. It was a good time, I feel safe enough to say that with some confidence. Some good friends, good times.

I am not a furry but have no problem with them, I will admit when I first heard of furries though I didn't hate them I did think it was a sexual thing for most of them but that was in large part because that was the only side I got exposed to until fairly recently. But whether they are engaging in that side or not they are just people who happen to have a different interest that is harming no one.

I first found out about it when I was watching this documentary on National Geographic a while ago and I forgot it since then

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYwEYOP_BVQ

It's surprisingly unbiased.

Huh. Well that was definitely interesting. It's nice to see that some people can make news about subcultural phenomena, that aren't biased or bashing the people taking part in it (yes, I'm pointing a finger at you Fox News >: ( ) I'd really like to see one of these "taboo" episodes made about bronies. Legit question: If I'm sexually attracted to Eris from Cat Planet Cuties does that make me a furry? She's the only cat human thing that I'm attracted to but yeah just wondering.

What furry artists do you follow? (Like on Deviantart, Furaffinity, Tumblr, etc.)

Too many,RedRusker, ZEN,  NaniMoose, and many more...as well as a few local artists/friends.

What furry series do you follow? (Webcomics? TV? Fictions?)

Two Kinds,Jay Naylor stuff, and there were a coupel others...

What's your favorite type of furry? (Mammal? Reptile? Avian?)

anything with 4 paws, a tail and pointy ears.

Do you like when non-anthropomorphic characters are turned into furries? (No right or wrong answer here!)

Depends...sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't

What is your opinion on the notion that bronies and furries are one and the same? (Once again, no right or wrong answer)

They're not the same, I know many furries that hate MLP, I also know bronies that hate furries. I"m in both fandoms.

What do you think of anthropomorphic versions of MLP characters?

Ehh...I dunno, boobs  make it weird.....sometimes it's done alright.

Well, looking at the picture, I'd say your attraction probably has more to do with the bewbs than anything else. And a human with cat ears and tail is barely furry, and doesn't really reveal anything. Besides, furry is more about aesthetic attraction in general rather than sexual attraction.

Try looking at non-sexualized furry pictures. If you see them and think "this looks cool", then you're a furry.

I have a Furry friend, who is also a Brony and he made a good point that Bronies and Furries are really close to eachother. Like cousin fandoms. They both want people to "Love and Tolerate", and they both have a small minority part of the fandom that is sexual about it.

I haven't posted in this topic in at least a year! Whoa!

I've noticed that 99% of the time my mind doesn't really notice when a furry is present in something. It's so natural for me that I don't see it as any different from seeing a male, female, child or Asian in a comic, cartoon or game.

I have noticed a bit of a trend though: Furry webcomics tend to have the best stories and I think it's mostly coincidence. laugh.png

I am a furry, though stating that in this community is akin to walking on hot coal. That's the impression I get, anyway. There is a lot of tension between the two fandoms.

I get the impression that some people on this thread don't know what a furry actually is. It's not necessarily a fetish, and it's not someone wanting to be an animal. Of course, there are people like that for both of those traits in the fandom, but by no means does it encompass the fandom at large.

For many people it's about cartoon characters, like Bugs Bunny or Wile E. Coyote.

For others it's about thinking that anthropomorphic wolves or other animals simply look cool.

For me, it's a about fursuiting. That's what got me interested in the fandom. I've always loved character costumes that could anonymously go around and make people smile, so that is what drew my attention to the fandom. I stuck around for the neat art and music that the fandom makes, and here I am. I know non-furries who make and wear fursuits as well.

You know what's funny is a lot of people agree that there is no one definition of what a furry is yet when haters hate furries they are defining a furry their own way yet we call BS on them for doing exactly what we do. I suppose the difference is that they are making assumptions to make their argument look better. I've actually seen people try to say furries are just porn addicts while bronies are innocent, doing exactly that: Trying to make bronies look cute and innocent by comparison. That's now how it works and there's just as many perverts in the brony community as the furry community, or the football community, or the anime community, or the automobile community. Why? Because they haz teh peoplez in them. Perversion is not derived on our hobbies but rather us as people. laugh.png

Me? I'm in the furry fandom because the character designs can be quite amazing and I always like the designs of furries over humans any day. In Animaniacs I will always pick Minerva Mink over the Nurse. In Looney Toons it'll always be Bugs over Elmer.

If that's what defines a furry, I suppose I'm a furry as well. I don't really go and look up art or anything but when I come across it I tend to think it's nice.

I guess this is the right place to ask.

So i'm just wondering about whether I could be classified as a furry or not. I know I like anthropomorphic animals including Sonic and Bugs and stuff, but i'm not sure if that's enough to be called a furry.

It's really up to you though I would say that if you have a tendency to take notice to and like anthro characters, sometimes over human characters, then it's pretty safe to say you are a furry.

There's several different types of furries too so even if you don't fit in one category you could in another.
