Is it any weirder than liking MLP and ponies? I mean bronies are technically a subset OF the furry fandom since we like intelligent 4 legged talking ponies. Main difference is they seem to "generally" like anthro animals (walkign upright and having hands)  and that's not that much of a difference. We often have our own OC's and a lot of them have fursonas.  I think both of us realize that human are just intelligent animals so its not a stretch to show that evolution of animals into evolved beings. It just seems a bit silly to think furries are weird and disturbing and yet bronies are not part of that or are above an established community that's been here longer.

Oh dear god no. We are not a subset of furries. There's some overlap in the fandoms but we are totally not a subset.

Main difference between me and and a furry brony:

I like a show that has anthropomorphic animals in it. A furry likes it because it has anthropomorphic animals in it.

I love how the reaction to the suggestion is "oh dear god no" as if it would be so bad to be considered a furry, even a casual one.

Of course, as with being called a "brony" all it takes is the acknowledgement of being a part of the whole so if you don't want to be a furry then you aren't but that won't stop other people from calling you one as those who watch this show, particularly for the characters, like it for the same reasons as any furry. There are a lot of parallels and that's why the two are compared. The difference is negligible.

I have a few friends online who a furries: I myself went through a short lived furry phase but I wasn’t ever really that into it, and when I got into MLP being a brony took it’s place.

I don’t really have a problem with furries, I have my “weird” interests and furriers can have there’s as far as I care, as long as they don’t hurt someone else or any of that stuff.

Hard to say. I only know one Furry in the real world who happens to be an FB friend who I went to high school with. My opinion of him is that he is a decent guy with an unconventional personality. I don't take my positive view of him as a representative for an entire sub-culture or fandom any more than I would label all members of a political party, philosophy, religion, ect based on personal experiences with one or a few people. I didn't do that back in early 2011 when my facebook was flooded with image macros of ponies, and that non-judgmental approach (eventually) allowed me to be a fan of a show with a little social stigma attached.

If the question is, "Do you have an issue with people wearing fursuits or fetishizing anthropomorphic art?" then my answer is no. Its not my thing, but who cares? There is a mountain of tastes that are not my thing. I am disappointment that there isn't more of a spiritual or totemic purpose behind the Furry fandom. Totemism needs a resurgence like Wicca, but that is a whole 'nother topic.

Eh, I don't quite understand where they are coming from, but they are cool. Some furry art is good, some of it sucks - kind of the same way with bronies there. Regardless,to each his own.

I don't like antrho, I cringe at the sight when browsing pony art.

Furries are fine, I 'spose. It would be hypocritical for me to put them down, seeing as I like a show about candy colored equines who peridoically learn about the magic of friendship. I just don't like their art.

I know this chunky girl who periodically shoves it in people's face that she's a furry, like it's the thing to be because it makes her unique.

She has a...I don't know...fursona, named Neon Kitty that she always dresses up as and is black and extremely bright neon green. She always posts pictures on Facebook and it's way too common to run into pictures of her in costume. It hurts my eyes.

She also likes to cosplay as human Rainbow Dash, and everyone tells her she looks just like her...

I do my best to hold my tongue. :X

@@StormBolt24 - hi there, just a heads-up that your thread has been merged with a larger one on the same topic. This keeps all the posts in the same thread :)

As for me, I'm not a furry, but I actually quite like the furry fandom. If there's anything I've noticed from generally perusing a few Youtube videos from furry cons, it's that they have an extraordinary amount of talent. It seems like everyone is involved with some sort of artistry or craftsmanship; conventions have a ton of art stalls and the like, and it inspires people to get creative. Another thing is that almost all furries I've actually chatted to are extremely friendly. I met one in person at London MCM Comic Con, he was from Turkey, really nice guy. The rest I've spoken to online and they have boundless enthusiasm for the things that they love, which is really nice to see. One other thing I think is cool is the fursuit aspect. It means that the shy type can obscure their face and join in the fun with a next-tier take on an animal persona :)

I imagine that if I had any artistic talent myself, and any natural affinity for animals, I'd jump head first into the furry fandom... but I don't have either. :\ I mean, I like animals, but I wouldn't get involved with a community that revolves entirely around it. It also seems pretty expensive.

Either way, Telephone is adorable:

I used to be a furry for a short time. Then there was a period of "no fandom"-ing, and I am now a part of the Herd.

Still, from my time there, I really don't see how bronies are a sub-culture of furries. Different interests, different origins...

(Off topic : I typed "fandom" and my phone suggested "menace" for the next word ? WTF!?)

EDIT :

Pretty much what the video says.

That like/dislike bar made my day. The internet can perfectly forget its differences if it's for teh lulz. Edited by Guest

What furry artists do you follow?

I really only follow and keep up with Slugbox. Awesome guy who I used as the basis of learning how to do digital art. He taught me a lot just by watching his livestreams and I have to give plenty of credit there. He is who inspired me to shoot for digital art over pen work.

What furry series do you follow?

I only follow TwoKinds. It is one of the best and Tom's art style has improved significantly over the years. Also, I was actually a fan of it before I started watching Markiplier. I can tell you, I couldn't piece together Tom Fischbach and Mark Fischbach were brothers until Mark explicitly mentioned it. Guess how stupid I felt?

What's your favorite type of furry?

Hands down? Otters. Otters will win me over every single time no questions asked.

Do you like when non-anthropomorphic characters are turned into furries?

Depends. Most of the time I don't mind. It just depends on the execution of the artist.

What is your opinion on the notion that bronies and furries are one and the same?

I would say bronies are a subset of the general term of furries. We are fans of non-human characters who are ponies. How would it be different from a furry who likes horses other than that the equine came from the cartoon show MLP:FiM? Brony is just a sub-genre of it all.

What do you think of anthropomorphic versions of MLP characters?

Depends again. Most of the time I don't mind it as it purely depends on the execution of the artist. Sometimes I like it, other times I am indifferent to it. I can say I'm not against it. Some of the artwork is really impressive and quite the creative way of reinterpreting the characters.

This is a thing? I had no idea this was a thing.

-What furry artists do you follow?

No one in particular really. I just look for pieces that I like, usually on Tumblr feeds (most are NSFW)

What furry series do you follow?

-I was a big fan of Road Rovers. That's probably where it started for me. There was sonic X , the video games from 03-06. I kinda fazed out of the fandom when I found other interests, but been coming in and out over the past year or so.

-What's your favorite type of furry?

I'm highly partial to wolves & foxes, followed by ponies (different than horse anthros apparently), and felines.

-Do you like when non-anthropomorphic characters are turned into furries?

Yup. It's like becoming a were creature. What's not cool about that?

What is your opinion on the notion that bronies and furries are one and the same?

While it's safe to say were branches on the same tree, I wouldn't say we're the same, or even that bronies are a furry subset. Not all bronies like the ponies in the same way furries like various characters. Some aren't even a part of the fandom due to ponies, but their personalities, characters & storytelling instead. Likewise not all furries are gonna enjoy MLP obviously. However, that's not to say the two are mutually exclusive. There is indeed overlap, and mlp could be counted in furry lore, just like Pokemon, FNAF, Looney toons, Sonic, Star fox etc, are. Just like being a fan, and calling yourself a brony, it's comes down to what the individual chooses.

-What do you think of anthropomorphic versions of MLP characters?

Awesome.

Now have some artwork!

I think furries are unique especially how they dress up. The way they dress up reminds me of mascots and I wouldn't mind dressing up that way at least once. I saw a group of furries at BABSCon and it was cool. I even hugged one of them. And that's my two cents on this topic.

As with pretty much every hobby or interest that doesn't harm other people, I have absolutely no problem with furries. In fact, I remember there being some sort of furry meetup at this beach town we were at. I didn't find out about it until after we left, but I'd have liked to go just to see the creative costumes. They can be pretty cool.

Furry mega thread activate!

I'm kind of in to Fox right now, if you couldn't tell. xP

Fox_McCloud___mission_complete_by_chibi_

Not that I've actually played any Star Fox games (I never had a console or hand-held device growing up), but he's my favorite character in Melee.

And, to answer the questions in the OP:

What furry artists do you follow? I don't follow artists as much, I just poke around and find random stuff.
What furry series do you follow? (Webcomics? TV? Fictions?) Kevin & Kell, Housepets, and Precocious currently.
What's your favorite type of furry? (Mammal? Reptile? Avian?) Mammal.
Do you like when non-anthropomorphic characters are turned into furries? Depends on the character.
What is your opinion on the notion that bronies and furries are one and the same? There is some overlap, but they are not the same.
What do you think of anthropomorphic versions of MLP characters? They're great when done right.

Hey my ppl

I joined the fandom ~a month ago. It started with weirded-out-ness, and then curiosity, and then it snowballed into me being an active member. Or, at least, trying to be. My mind is still having trouble adapting to this (I've no idea why) so I have to restrict myself somewhat from doing TOO many furry-related things. It's weird. SPREAD THE WORD OF HOUSEPETS

There is very little difference between the two groups.  Both like anthropomorphic characters, both can very passionate, sometimes to an extreme extent,  both have image problems, and both produce copious amounts of porn.  The only real difference is that Bronies are a little more exposed due to the fandom being centered around a pop culture icon.  But in the end we have more in common than either fandom is willing to admit.  I think some bronies see aspects of themselves and the fandom they don't like in furries and that makes them angry.

I'm not 100% a Furry. But I find it hypocritical how some Bronies say stuff like "Why do Furries like stuff like this?" or "Wow, Furries are weird."

Disliking or frowning upon a group because their interest is "weird" is one of the core reasons Anti Bronies dislike Bronies!

I'm a Furry, but not a big one.

Also, whenever a brony hates furries because "they're perverted", yet if that brony has no problems with stuff like clopping, then they're a fucking hypocrite.
