Bronies and furries are just so similar.I'm a brony and furry. It's not strange when somebody being both brony and furry. So yeah,to me,furries are pretty cool.

You got very nice art. btw

--------

Funny thing how I came across furries. I always liked the swat kats and I googled swat kats art and on the 2nd or 3rd I got yiff/porn. haha

retired furry here. i fell for the trap of the appeal of the fandom back when I was 16. I loved and lived it and still own a fursuit. But the fandom just wrecked my life. I messed up my Uni course because of it, I moved through several homes and i developed a lot of hate for people in general and have an egotistical attention whore streak because of that damn fandom and its drama. The old me is awful and Im glad im moving from it. Helps having a boyfriend who has no interest in it too.

BUT I do still keep to offering furry art commissions, much less so these days, but I do try and bring it back at times. Ive been a furry for nearly 10 years... wow.

Oh if anyone wants to know who I was in that fandom, my old name was JessLyra, my fursonas are Lyra the Snow leopardess, Huru the Okapi, Stevie the roo and Tala the she wolf.

I'm a brony when I first come to internet.Yet soon(when season 6 released) I went to the furry fandom. At first I tried to make an fursona but find it's pretty difficult to make an original one without adding strange-looking unatural colours(red, neon blue etc.) on their pelt.Plus the fandom simply have too many sex staffs. So I went back to the mlp fandom and using back my ponysona. But still,I'm a furry and I still like animals walking with two legs, making me always do those ponies-stand-on-two-legs art.

BTW ur art's shading look relastic.I highly appreciate it.

(Sorry for bad Eng XDD)

Oh, huh. Probably would have answered alot of my earlier questions had I looked at the original post.

Funny how it seems like a vast majority of animation and in particular childrens' media is centered around animated animals. Like, I can't remember having heard of a "bad" animated show that stars animal characters, well, unless its so very clearly had little effort put into its creation. Seems the bad shows tend to be the ones starring humans. Gives one this impression that just thinking of anthropomorphizing sort of gets the creative juices flowing. That somewhere deep inside each human being there's a small, nagging voice that keeps asking "What If?" As it were some common thread to wish for a form that we weren't born into, an outlook different from the present yet alike in sentience & personality of what we have come accustomed to.

I know not of any particular artists, but I'd be hard pressed to find one that isn't. I mean, look at most of Disney's work. Seemed hard for him to do anything that didn't involve animals. Even in Snow White, one of the first & a mostly human cast, there's still just flocks of deer, birdies and other cutsey wildlife that roam around the titular character. Almost as if Walt was just uncomfortable being involved in any project that didn't have animals in it to some degree. Gorsh, I kinda consider Ariel from the Little Mermaid to be an anthro fish, and she was my first crush!

Now that I think of it, I'd have to say that I think I consider Bronies and Furries to be almost the same thing. Completely different fandoms, don't get me wrong! Ponies as this show portrays them are undeniably given human characteristics, namely that of intelligence and temperment. To me anyway, don't think anthropomorphism really requires the subject to be bipedal.

but the one thing I don't appreciate is when furries look too human. And I mean this in the sense where they have realistically shaped human faces where it looks like someone just painted their face to look like a cheetah or something. I find those particular kinds of furries ugly as sin. I prefer them to have a more anime/cartoony air to them.

I totally agree. There's steps too far that you can take it of course. I for one pretty much worship dragons, but I find it almost impossible to anthropomorphize a dragon. They're intended to be great big stompy things that demand your respect or at least for you to keep your guard up when encountering one. "Humanizing" one only makes them smaller, slighter, less impressive & admittedly frail. About the only good example is Saffira from the Yu-Gi-Oh card game, outright angelic that one!

Me, think I kind of prefer anthro reptiles. "Cause, I mean, if your gonna be stylizing your artwork like that, might as well try to be impressive n' showy with a coat of scales, eh? So its somewhat odd to be thrown under the title of "Furry" even if you don't terribly consider the fur part of it. Though that being said, I do adore foxes too & those seem awfully common in that fandom too. Just the gosh darned cutest things ever!

Find it rather unfair for the Furry fandom to be saddled with its reputation of being sex focused. Sure, that is definitely a massive part of it, you can't look up anything on DeviantArt even close to the fandom without bringing up pretty much 90% of it as... sketchy material, but that doesn't make it the ONLY part of it. I'm a furry because I just darn well like animals notably more then humans in pretty much all aspects of it. Think alot of people these days forget that being attracted to something doesn't just mean sex or indeed, even physical interaction. Just a sort of inclination.

For most of my life, I have had more close interaction with family pets then I have humans. Why wouldn't I feel more for animals?

Edit: Oh, and Fluttershy is Sooo a furry! Lol!

I've been around the furry fandom since 2007. It's actually mostly thanks to furries that I'm here now! It's a whole separate world, in a similar spirit to this fandom, and with many of the same problems associated with it. But its imperfections don't make me love it any less. I've made some great friends through the furry fandom, and I'm usually happy to surprise people that I'm a fur.

I've been a furry, even though just vaguely, for quite a lot longer than I've been a fan of MLP. The fandom has given me many mixed feelings over the years but I still end up coming back and keep being a vague member of it too. At least I do have a fursona, a liking to anthropomorphic art and an account on FA (feel free to stalk if you feel like it!), among rather many other furry sites.

My friends at school don't exactly appreciate my occasional involvement with the fandom so I'm pretty much trying to keep a low profile about it all. But I secretly enjoy many things the fandom has to offer, the biggest factors being the nice community itself and all the pretty art.

I don't get it but hey I don't care. I have a good friend who is a furry. We bonded over the mutual oddities and idiosyncies of our respective fandoms. I find the whole idea very puzzling. Someone taking on an anthropomorphic personality is very interesting. I always keep a you do you sort of thing with lots of things.

I am a furry and a brony, and happy to be both, although I have been a furry longer than a brony, my first character was a pegasus pony, just recently I go my first fursona, a Tibetan wolf, my commission was completed in November, and I am so happy to have my character completed. Both fandoms overlap each other, so I feel happy to have new friends from both fandoms, which gets me sentimental, we are not the first fandoms who overlap, like Star Trek and Stat Wars; Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings; and Battlefield and Modern Warfare, I also love western animation and anime, so to me it just means more to admire. After I saw Zootopia in March, I reinvigorated my interest in furries again, which was why I commissioned an artist on Deviantart to draw my first fursona, and Zootopia OC, I fell in love with the movie and it's habitat, the city was an architectural masterpiece, I felt just like Judy Hopps when she rode the train into the city, it was inspirational, just like when I first set my eyes on Equestria. I have been to both pony and furry conventions, I was not weird to me, after visiting foreign countries, I felt comfortable going to meet people, especially fans who have the same admiration for ponies and animals as I did, no one have ever been bothered that I was either a brony or a furry, so I got new friends and I had fun, which was my goal. I am happy to be in both fandoms, I feel happy to share my ponysona and fursona, as long as we are happy, it should not matter if our fandoms crossover, remember the elements of harmony.

Yup. Proud furry here. I would say that my furry-ness was dormant for quite a lot of years and during that time i forgot that when i was a kid i used to be obsessed with anthropomorphic animal characters from my favourite cartoons and tv shows. During that time when I stopped being a furry that's when i discovered the subculture based around it. At first i hated them because of how weird and fucked up i thought they were but in the end i finally had an open mind and realised they're not as bad as everyone thinks. Then Zootopia was released and by watching the trailer it awakened my furry-ness once again and made me realise that i was one if them all along!

I even made this blog about it. https://mlpforums.com/blog/3144/entry-20800-apology-to-the-furries/

Here's my fursona:

I just got attached to the furry fandom. After watching Zootopia I was like "Screw my other life! I wanna be a furry!" and here i am now. A proud furry and hoping to cosplay as my furry one day but I know that wont happen XD. Why you ask? Cause im not really a fox/dog (thats my oc's species) but it would be cool awesome to meet other people that love furries as much as I do! At first, I thought they were so... "common" and not so cool to make but after seeing a person's creativity on youtube (Vivziepop) my furriness has woken up and now I stand by my fellow furries and stand for what is right

(Pic of my oc is coming soon)

> What's your favorite type of furry? (Mammal? Reptile? Avian?)

Mammal, as there's such a wide variety of shapes/sizes.

> Do you like when non-anthropomorphic characters are turned into furries? (No right or wrong answer here!)

Generally, no, but if it's part of the storyline, I can handle that.

> What is your opinion on the notion that bronies and furries are one and the same?

It really depends on your definition of "furry".  Myself, I'd have to disagree, but arguments can be made to the contrary.

What do you think of anthropomorphic versions of MLP characters?

No.  Just no.

I don't think I've posted in this. I am a proud fox/canid furry. I love other animals too, but canid furries are my favorite. (Canid is similar to canine but includes animals like foxes).

I haven't done much yet or have a fursona (but I have ideas), but I love the art and community.

I really like furries. To me, they can be like bronies: Extremly nice and awesome and extremly cancerous and cringy. (excuse my language if that was too much)

Yeah no. I like them, in every aspect. I could just as good be a furry as a brony. But i went the path of the cute little magical horses. And that's where i'll stay. I think.

When it comes to RPing i totally accept the co-existence of ponies and furries in one RP.

I'm a furry since 2008, I really get interested in 2012-2013, before I was just, "pawing off" to furry, then I discover all the other type of art they was and all the community.

But to be honest, I've always lived this as a "mental disorder". I mean...shit they're animal after all, even if they're humanised...

Liking something = mental disorder

Doing something (extreme) to someone = mental disorder

Liking something != Doing something (extreme) to someone

We're at an impasse here.

Doing something (extreme) to someone > Liking something = mental disorder

Oh we're not.

It comes easier with practice, don't be so hard on yourself, you're doing the best you can for now.  Just keep practicing and you'll improve over time, also, looking at references and ways other people drew what you want to draw is helpful.

I am more into the equine, bovine and caprine side of the furry fandom, never really had any luck on the forums, they tended to be pretty closed off to new comers and drama filled in my experiance so I tend to admire it from a distance.

I don't really consider myself a furry, but I've had some interest stem recently for the mammalian side of it.

I respect the fandom and the community all in all seems to be very similar to the MLP community, friendly enough but has it's cringy parts.
