Does anyone here use 4chan?

I do not go there.

A friend of mine showed it to me before the pony craze started and I walked away from it

Not so much because the content but the format. It was way too confusing trying to find things or to follow lines of thought.

Same for MLP chan.. I just don't like the format

I have no interest in 4Chan whatsoever.

  1. The forum boards are hideously unorganized. So many topics overlap each other, resembling the "I'm-a-clogged-toilet" chat board that once plagued this forum. If 4Chan is going to actually look like a forum, there must be a serious re-organization of topics within the sections.
  2. Many of the boards have terrible moderation, and, quite frankly, many people there need to know the consequences of starting rumors. Places like /b/ and /mlp/ are unfiltered with plenty of rumor-initiating crap that does nothing but passively damn 4Chan and the brony fandom on the whole. The moderation there needs to be much stricter, with big offenses to those who start rumors that could end people's careers (i.e., starting that "joke" of MandoPony being a pedophile because he works closely with the Crebers, which made him panic from fear and anger).

4Chan is considered to be a cesspool of the Internet because of the rumor-slinging, career-damning, and unfiltered crap for a reason, and I see no interest in actually being a part of that garbage.

The thing with your first point is that 4chan isn't a forum. It's a message board, and there are dozens of boards with specific topics and themes (e.g. /a/ for anime, /v/ for games, /co/ for comics and cartoons, etc.) that make it easy to find the kind of threads you're looking for. As for the whole "Mandopedo" fiasco, that was said as a complete joke in a single small thread and Mando took it way out of hand and created a giant shitstorm about it, acting like a complete child. It was never intended to be taken seriously, they were just having some shits and giggles and he ended up taking it literally. That's the thing with that board as a whole, they don't actually try to spread rumors and lies, people just end up taking things literally that sholdn't be taken with a grain of salt.

Anyway, I go on /mlp/ pretty regularly, as well as a few other boards, and it's not nearly as bad as it's made out to be. Besides, the people that dislike the site and its community are people that probably haven't even bothered to get to know it at all.

4chan is more than just ponies, and as this topic is organized and asked in a way that isn't specifically referring to the brony presence on 4chan, I've moved this to General Discussion :3

Oh hell no. If wasn't for Creepypasta, Ponies, and a few funny memes and meaningful posts buried under all the crap, I'd say it's entire existence had been useless. I've been tempted to check out /x/, but that's about it.

Also, as said above, the site is pretty damn hideous and unapealng to use.

There is NO excuse for delivering such a lousy, borderline criminal "joke"!

Whenever you try to tag the "pedophile" label on anyone, whether it's a joke or not, you risk damaging that person's whole career. The term "pedophile" is considered by almost everyone in this world with contempt and disgust, and anyone who is one clinically is outcast. That "joke" accomplishes nothing except risk MandoPony from legitimately getting a JOB. What if he went for a job interview, and the people who work there research his background and saw that "joke"? That right there sends signals to those companies that he's a danger to their customers.

Seriously, what did you think he would do? Cover his ears and pretend it never happened? That "joke" could've cost him hundreds of applications the second that "rumor" began. That "MandoPedo" stuff was very harmful, and he had every right to blow up and panic. Why 4Chan's moderators didn't do an ounce of common sense and lambast/kick out those who had the gall to start and evolve that tasteless, sorry excuse of a "joke" the second it began is beyond me.

It was on one isolated thread. It was not intended to harm Mando personally or to be taken offensive. They were just poking fun at him and he took it seriously out of hand like an egomanical, immature manchild, and now people like you think that it's such a terrible thing that a couple people on an anonymous messageboard joked around about him without any intent to damage his reputation or his image.

Please cool down and think about how maybe Mando's reaction wasn't justified.

I'd like to point out there are limits to humor. I'm the kinda of person that will laugh at Spoony's reviews, and smile and carry-on with Caleb's sociopathic banter in Blood II. I will laugh along with the most vile toilet humor on the planet as long as you remember to make it funny.

But there is a line, and accusing a living, breathing person of being a pedophile crosses it, pisses on it, and keeps on walking while flipping the bird back over it's shoulder.

I stay as far away from 4chan as possible for these reasons:

1. Every time I go there and look at any board, I see images that I wish I had never seen in my life. /Mlp/ also was the first place where I saw MLP r34 (on the very first page, I might add), even though it's supposed to be a SFW board.

2. There is practically ZERO moderation on most boards.

3. The whole sight has pretty much degenerated into a giant troll pit.

4chan is probably the worst site that I've ever been to, and I only go here occasionally just to see what ridiculous topics are on /mlp/ (and to give my jimmies a good rustling).

(The pic below is relevant because it's my usual reaction to half the shit I see on 4chan.)

I've been using 4chan for years now, yes it is the cesspool of the internet but it has its moments, i enjoy some of the threads on /b/, particularly You Laugh you Loose threads, the dark humor on there appeals to me...

I also get a considerable amount of my "adult" wink.png  pictures from there blush.png

I go to 4chan, but only to the /mlp/. I use to go to /b/, but now all that's there is a bunch of 12 year old s**tposting and starting porn threads. /mlp/ is fun to go to (when there is something good on). There aren't that many r34 threads I thought there would be. There are actually some good thread there (you just have to find them past all the s**tposting).

Basically, this.

Sure, it's a cesspool of some of the worst the internet has to offer, but it also has dark humor, weird humor, hilariously bad trolls, and... umm... adult pictures (/d/ 4 lyfe) :)

I love the wording on that last point.

Anyway, I don't really see what the big deal is. I mean, it's a huge major shitpool, which I could see people using to vent, or you know, to have fun (Ugh, what's "fun"?). People act like you'll get PTSD by looking at your monitor for half a second on /b/.

Sporadically.

I think of it as the one place where people can cut loose over all the "I find that offensive" nonsense that oversaturates the world, and be tremendously mean-spirited while (in the vast majority of cases) doing no damage in doing so because everyone else is doing the same and it's understood that it's not sincere.

That said, when I see people (especially on YouTube) making comments that are clearly in 4chan mentality, I can't help but facepalm.

If there is one thing about the site's userbase that I really do dislike, it would be that they've effectively made 'autistic' synonymous with 'having an opinion'.

I don't personally go to 4chan, but I have a few friends who do and always seem to find the gems hidden within it (maybe they know Rarity's gem finding spell?) I honestly can't decipher the format that it consists of and looking at it gives me headaches because it just isn't aesthetically pleasing.

Hell's yea I do!

4chan is wonderful, I love it! I love the fact that everyone is just posting crap, it allows for such wonderful entertainment! Unlike others I find 4chan to be easy navigable. It works just like any other board or forum. Topic that get posted in get bumped up, the only difference is that the topic have no titles and you can see the first comment and a few of the latest, that's it. I like 4chan because the lack of morals and social rules gives access to so many wonderful things.

For the ones who are easily offended, go build yourself a castle to defend yourself with or something. Nobody gives a damn about anyone's opinion and you should've known that. The louder you complain, the harder we're going to laugh. Nothing is sincere on 4chan and you shouldn't take anything seriously. And yes, the whole Mando-pedophilia thing was blown waaaaaaaay out of proportion. Like seriously, ONE THREAD, ONE FKING THREAD and a whole shitstorm happens.

Oh one last thing, the rules on /mlp/ are a complete joke, it's a parody on the whiny bronies who don't want anything "scarring their fandom". There's nothing wrong with the moderation. You post something seriously against the rules, expect that you won't see the site for a long time. If I had to sum this whole complaining about the moderation on /mlp/ up in a picture it would be something like this:

I feel like it's interface is crap. /b/ is terrible, and from the information I've gathered, every other board on 4chan hates /b/. There are some good boards, but it's so hard to keep track of threads, I've just decided "Screw it". I honestly don't use it that often, unless I'm incredibly bored.

I go there for /tg/ mostly as I enjoy the discussions on that board, many of which are about Warhammmer 40k, which I am a huge fanboy of. There's nothing NSFW there. I also go to /b/ sometimes as you can stumble across a good thread now and again, and very rarely, an amazing thread, but most of /b/ is just crappy You X You Lose threads with people posting the same content over and over again and. That being said, I do enjoy the dark humor you can come across.

I visit a good few boards on there actually.

the main ones are probably /out/ /x/ /fit/ /v/ /mlp/ and /lgbt/ occasionally. I used to visit /co/ & /b/ for pone threads, but it's mlp now

It's really not as bad as people make it out to be. Sure it has it's moments where you think 'why would you do that?' but because of the multiple boards of different topics, you can tailor your experience to yourself.

I find most of the people who have bad things to say about the site have not spent any real amount of time to explore the site.

For example, contrary to popular belief, there is a fair bit of moderation on the site, but they can't be everywhere at once.

I think the fact is you just need to take a pinch of salt with you when you go there, and you'll be fine.

also don't take advice from there until you've researched what they've said extensively, and you should be fine.

I love 4chan. It's a pretty fun site if you don't get flank flustered easy. I usually only browse /mlp/ and /x/, but lately I've discovered /co/.

I've actually never been there before, and I don't plan to. From what I've heard, it's not a very friendly place. :3

Thinking about it, I don't think I've heard one positive thing about that site.
