Frith is Magick 1,469 March 8, 2014 Share March 8, 2014 I'm inclined to say 2. 48/2(9+3) 48/2(12) 48/24 2 However, I plugged this into my expensive calculator and got 288, and if my expensive calculator is wrong, I have a bad feeling about my Stats final... DigitalRocket 185 March 9, 2014 Share March 9, 2014 48/2(9+3)=x 48/2*12=x 48/24=x x=2 Every single one of you fucks that said 288... oh my god... just oh my god... haven't you ever heard of order of operations? i typed it in google and also got 288 but that was because google translated it into (48/2)*(9+3) instead of 48/2*(9+3) which it should have. If someone needed Google to solve this, they need to go back to sixth grade... this is exactly like using Google translate.

Jack "Fox" Grayson 27 March 10, 2014 Share March 10, 2014 Ah, this is a classic. It all depends on how you treat "implied multiplication". Is it the same as regular multiplication, and thus on the same level as division, or is it different (and has greater precedence than division)? Same as regular multiplication: 48/2(9+3) = 48 / 2 * (9+3) = 48 / 2 * 27 = 288 Greater precedence: 48 / 2(9+3) = 48 / 24 = 2 I personally go with the latter for convenience. Sunbro 4 Lyfe 937 March 13, 2014 Share March 13, 2014 [insert 69 joke, 42 joke or over 9000 joke here] It just depends on how you calculate. If I go by my method it is 288. Then again, i'm stupid.
SomariFeyWright 776 March 16, 2014 Share March 16, 2014 This is the power of PEMDAS. Parentheses: (9+3)=12 Exponent: N/A Multiply/Divide: 48/2=24 24(12)=288 So, obviously the answer is 2. ... Oh wait. Crap. I did it in my head wrong. Now I have to change my vote. Crap.
easymac 106 March 19, 2014 Share March 19, 2014 now the reason i say the answer is 2 is as follows48/2(9+3) copy the problem48/2(12) do the addition inside the parentheses 48/24 multiply the 2 with the 122 divide 48 by
