Did anyone else not go to University?

I wish I’d gone to university, I don’t cry my self to sleep over it I can accept that that’s how it’s turned out but it would have been nice to have gone to University.

I did further education and improved maths, English and got an IT qualification

A lot of people I hear about and pretty much all my Facebook friends have been, it’s almost like it's the thing socailly people for all people to go to University (which is probably nonsence really) and I just wondered if there are many others who didn’t go either?

I am applying this question to people who are old enough to have been or go in the first place, and to people who aren’t just taking a year out and going soon in the future.

i am in university and personally, it's certainly not just a social thing to because others do it. I go because i want to have a secure job doing something that interests me, and for that i need a degree (not that you can't get that without a tertiary educationbut it is harder). I don't really party and i live off campus so for me its mostly academic.

I haven't gone to university yet. But, I've been planning to go in a couple of years when I'm done with college. I need at least two years there, so that's what I'm gon' do. :)

What are you both studying?

And are there lots who don't make it to Uni or am I pretty much just an odd one out? I don't wanna be melodramatic about it but it's like everyone else goes and I didn't. Am I being silly?

There are a lot of people who doesn't make it to uni, and/or doesn't even wanna go to uni. Though, when I get to uni I'm probably gonna be studying some IT. My grades will hopefully be good enough so that I can get the MSc in Game development. Or something like that. Lol.

I am going into University soon for my English bachelor. I realized how important it was for me to become a teacher; and now I am getting ready for it. I didn't want to work some desk job for some company, I wanted to help others, and try to teach them. I was the kid who didn't care too much about school (luckily my grades were still good enough for uni), but I feel that can help me relate to students as a teacher. Hopefully that can help some students not make the mistakes I made.

i'm in mechatronic engineering (robotics) and its like, one of my favorite things ever. as for people who don't go to uni, a large percentage dont, probably like 25% of my high school class either joined the work force, dropped out or are still deciding what they want to do. and a lot of people change their minds and end up wasting money on uni. so sometimes its good to not go/take your time deciding.

I was originally planning on going to college because when I was younger I was really smart.  However, I really lacked social skills, so I tried to make lots of friends in high school only to realize there was no hope for me developing good social skills.  I got really depressed and barely graduated high school and kindof lost my fervor for learning.  I'm happy now though just working at a fast food restaurant and living with my best friend.  I think college wasn't the best path for me.

Nope, Going to a university is just not for me. I'm planning on going to a 2 year community college in welding technology and become a certified welder. Then work in a fabrication shop making trailers and what not and maybe even get a job welding on the pipeline, which by the way has pretty decent pay.

Basicly I just have always been a handy man at making stuff.greaser_s_cutie_mark_by_thetofusurvivor-

What do you mean by university, like college? Yeah, I'm in a community college right now, but after I'm done here I plan on going to a university to get a good degree.

I didn't go, and I don't really plan to, to be honest. Sometimes I feel like I'm pressured to go, or doubt if I'm making the right choice, but in the end I just don't see myself going. I've always gotten good marks, but I'm just not a school person, and I don't feel like it's worth the effort (for me).

I went but i couldn't continue. Honestly questioning if i will return or not. Going to College was the worst mistake ive ever made. Every single month i get phone calls from bill collectors trying to get back money for my student loan.... im a server at a restaurant... im paying $14,000 back for trying to better myself. I don't think that its for everyone but we as a society have convinced ourselves that it is the norm and anything other than going to school doesn't deserve as much merit. This is what needs to change. You can live a great life without school... I hate to sound like a quack but I smell a conspiracy. Everyone in my family who goes to college graduates and then does a job that has nothing to do with their degree. Find what you love and do well at it.

I personally wouldn't mind going to school again if i CLEARLY knew what I wanted to be/do. Basically I have so many interests and they change often, I've never  been able to settle down and say my destiny is this and I will make a career out of it. It's all about the money I suppose, I feel I'd be throwing cash away if I didn't follow what i chose and disappoint myself and my family.

Especially when I could be saving for the future and use this time for experiencing true friendships and learning how to deal with the world i fear so much.

Here Here! Very well said. My sister and a few of my friends are going through the student debt as well. The companies don't care if you got a job after school or not, they want the money back plus interest. dry.png

I've decided not to go. Mostly because I don't think i could put any effort into the work. Plus there's the debt, even though it wipes after around 30 years. If i did decide to go, I would have probably reignited my passion for cooking (if there is any cooking courses available).

I went to uni but couldn't handle the time wasting curriculum, also, most of my lecturers didn't know anywhere near enough about what they were supposed to be teaching. I'm just working at the moment and making pretty decent money, granted it's probably not as good or secure as it would be with a University degree but I'm more than happy with it. If I do end up studying again it'll be at a different University. I'll burn that place to the ground before I study there again.
