Le Kvlt Dawn 2,362 May 30, 2013 Share May 30, 2013 I'm not afraid to admit it, I fucking suck at first person shooters. I'm good at fighting games, side scrollers, RPGs but I REALLY suck at FPSs. I'm good at GTA, I've beaten San Andreas three times and memorized the map to death. So I don't suck at all shooters, and I do play CoD every now and then. I'm horrible at it, but it's kinda fun. I've also played TF2, it's also fun, and I also suck at it. But hey at least I'm the Pokemon master and hardly anyone can beat me at smash bros., I just beat the shit out everyone with Marth lol. I'm also currently playing Castlevania SOTN, so far I'm at 40% and I've only played it for three hours. So does anyone else face this curse?
Enemy Stand 445 May 30, 2013 Share May 30, 2013 Maybe it's not that you suck at FPS games, just those specifically. CoD doesn't really give a great representation of all first person shooters. I'm not good at CoD and I don't really like it, but I love other FPS games like BioShock, The Darkness, Far Cry 3, etc. If you really just are not good at FPS games, so what? Many people dislike them because the control scheme can be confusing, or you can't see the character, and so on.

SolaceFall 21,057 May 30, 2013 Share May 30, 2013 I am not to great at FPS's either :/... They are fun to play but going online and getting demolished sucks the fun out for me. I am more of a RPG/Platformer/Racing/Fighting games kind of person. But then again I play just to have some fun while not being bothered to be very competitive.
 Badges
Mutemutt 772 May 30, 2013 Share May 30, 2013 I always found them to be kind of simple. It feels like the only skill you need to be good at them is accuracy. It's an oversimplification, I know, but it always feels that way since I can just pick up the average FPS and do relatively decent by just pointing and shooting. It's funny how you can be good at fighting games and suck at FPS. I find fighting games much more difficult to play.
Metemponychosis 1,175 May 30, 2013 Share May 30, 2013 I'm good enough to go through the single player campaigns of most games I like (Farcry 3, Killzone series, Colonial Marines (yes, I like this abomination.... die hard fan of the movies). But when I go into multiplayer... It's embarrassing, really. I tend to fare much better on TPS, like Red Dead Redemption and Mass Effect. Enemy Stand 445 May 30, 2013 Share May 30, 2013 (edited) I'm pretty sure Left 4 Dead 2 is another multiplayer-centric FPS, which seems to be what you're talking about (and the ones I'm not too good at) I can't blame you for wanting to play more games like RDR, that was an AMAZING game, and I love those types of games (third person shooters). If I may, I'd like to recommend a few. -Mafia II -L.A. Noire -The Saboteur -Uncharted series -Infamous (more action than shooter but still great) Edited May 30, 2013 by Orangejack
Dark Moon 963 May 30, 2013 Share May 30, 2013 (edited) Well I do want to try out Left 4 Dead 2. But I'd much rather play something like Red Dead Redemption. Left 4 Dead 2 isn't really a good representation of a normal FPS, it is quite different from most. Red Dead is amazing, one of my favorite games. Oh John Marston. I don't share your dilemma. I'm a boss. I'm occasionally the kid that gets unfairly accused of modding. You either die a noob or live long enough to become accused of modding as they say. The only time I had trouble with a FPS was when I first tried playing Battlefield 3, which by then I was well versed with FPS. I sucked so much, the mechanics of that game were so alien. Ended up selling it and then repurchasing it later on because my friend magically wanted to play for once. I'm pretty good now though, still have occasional issues here and there. I think the only games I'm not great at are games like guitar hero, that being said I don't own the game or the 70 dollar guitar controller so there is a reason. Ever see the Battlefield Friends videos? I was basically the noob(actual character name) for the longest time. I hate the word noob. TPS are slightly superior to FPS in my opinion. Games like Battlefield and Halo still hold me back from saying that TPS are supreme. Edited May 30, 2013 by Dark Moon
Leavinh 313 May 30, 2013 Share May 30, 2013 I definitely have bad Frames Per Second, the highest I've gotten is like 3. Oh wait, you meant the other...oh okay I know what you mean. In all seriousness though, I am very bad at FPSs. But I attribute that to the fact that I've really only played COD with a friend once and that the most advanced console I have is a PS2/Wii. I'm more of an RPG/Platformer guy. And I'm even just kind of okay at those.
A Blithering Div 247 May 30, 2013 Share May 30, 2013 I'm actually alright at FPS's with mice. However, I recently got a trackball mouse. Went right back to rubbish. It's kinda hard to swing around fast enough and if my trigger finger gets spurratic, I jitter the ball, lowering my overall accuracy. Even Heavy in TF2 is a little more difficult. I'm lucky if I manage a 1:1 KDR now.
Princess Periwinkle 3,771 May 30, 2013 Share May 30, 2013 I used to be good, but then Black Ops 2 came out. I don't know why I suck at that game so much... My W/L is at 44% and my K/D is hovering down around 1.20. But I haven't played the game in a few months now... As for non CoD shooters, I could never really get in to Battlefield, Homefront, or Far Cry...
Toa of Ponies 256 May 30, 2013 Share May 30, 2013 I'm pretty bad at FPS, like COD, battlefield and Far Cry. In fact now that I think about it, there's really only two FPS I'm good at Left 4 Dead 2 and Fallout: New Vegas. And that last one isn't really even a FPS
Lord Bloodpool 3 May 30, 2013 Share May 30, 2013 I'm terrible at most FPS games. Real-Time Strategy games are more my thing, but I like to think I'm pretty decent at TF2, one of the few FPS games that actually requires teamwork and strategy to win. Azaxx 111 May 30, 2013 Share May 30, 2013 I don't like bragging but I'm quite skilled at Halo, mainly Halo Reach and Halo 4. Put way too many hours into those games. Other games like Crysis 3 and Planetside 2 I'm ok at, not the best, but if I were to be dumped into a FPS that I've never played before, I think I'd do ok. Just some guy 1,068 May 30, 2013 Share May 30, 2013 I'm either amazingly awesome or amazingly awful at FPSes.For example,I can land long-range headshots with a SMG in CoD while also being able to miss at close-range with a shotgun in the same game. It's funny how often my "skill" can swing in one direction or another in most competitive games. Ruddboy Olaf 10,610 May 30, 2013 Share May 30, 2013 LOL,I suck with FPS as well, but I really don't care. I enjoy messing around on black ops multiplayer,i love watching my character get blown up by my own grenade. So enjoyable,if you were to play serious, what would be the fun in that? It's just a game,i say, don't worry about it. Your lucky to be even good at RPGs,i suck at them. my best would have to be Super smash bros. though, and even then,i still play around. You can't enjoy the game if your gonna play seriously. I am really good at Ace Attorney, but terrible at FPSs. I guess,i am better with the mystery type games. Suck at Tf2 as well. TBH,I suck at all videogames besides Super Smash Bros. and Ace Attorney. Thank you and that is all.
 Badges
Pixel Mouse 82 May 30, 2013 Share May 30, 2013 (edited) The truth is... No one here sucks at FPSs. Every one has a VERY diffrent play style, and if you are good enough to be "ok" at any given game, spent some time, learn the maps, as most FPSs focus not on you and your enemy returning fire at each other, but mostly about getting them from the side. Aim isn't always that important. But otherwise, if you still suck, the games not for you... XD I dunno, I used to play bo2, and was so bad it wasn't even funny, but then I jumped in a game of jagex's Ace Of Spades and ended up grabbing my achievment for 10 kills in a life with a sinper. I can't really explain it, but some games require an aggressive playstyle, while others encourage a slow, cautious and sometime well thought out movements. Every shooter is diffrent. Soundgarden 2,756 May 31, 2013 Share May 31, 2013 I was incredibly good at Counter Strike 1.6 a time ago, but I'm just freaking horrible right now. I suck at all class based FPS games, I really find the amount of skills required in those kind of games to be very low. All you need to do is to counter the class I'm more of a RTS and MOBA person, but I'm decent at FPS games
Okie Dokie Lokie 24 May 31, 2013 Share May 31, 2013 Like you, I suck at FPSs and I personally don't like them. (with the exception of TF2 but then again I got sick of that game and probably won't play that game for a very long time). I prefer platformer games and fighting games ^^. Dr. Frasier Crane 318 May 31, 2013 Share May 31, 2013 Me, I couldn't even get past the first stage in COD 3, and I didn't get much further in halo 3 either. :/ Although I have completed the entire Half-Life series, though, so I can't be all bad. I guess Half-Life is just more appealing to me.
cd_solidsnake 122 May 31, 2013 Share May 31, 2013 I also suck at FPSs, but I love to play them. I play Alliance of Valiant Arms (which is F2P), Star Wars: Battlefront II (really hard to master), I used to play Combat Arms (another F2P), Warsow, etc. Somehow, I haven't tried TF2, because I just have 20 GB left in my HDD, And that thing is 12 GB Back on topic, even though I suck at them, I play them because it's so much fun! Specially if it's a tactical one (Alliance of Valiant Arms' escort missions are awesome! You don't have to just shoot everyone). And you can troll people with grenades (I used to commit suicide with the grenade: cook it, run towards your enemies, they kill you, they laugh at you like "such a n00b! You really though you could k-", they fly through the air in little pieces when the grenade explotes, they hate you).

As for non CoD shooters, I could never really get in to Battlefield, Homefront, or Far Cry... CoD is a zero sum game isn't it? For every kill there is a death (suicides don't count for the ratio IIRC) so the average K/D is a flat 1.00. That makes you're k/d above average. Unless you're doing 1v1's constantly your W/L is more telling of the teams you play on compared to the ones you play against, rather than your skill as an individual. Of course this is all relative. You may suck compared to the best of the best players and be godlike compared to the noobiest of noobs.
SPLinux 374 May 31, 2013 Share May 31, 2013 I only play about 2 FPS games, TF2 and openarena. I'm awful at TF2, can somewhat handle the CPU's in openarena on medium(bring it on) difficultly but any harder and i get creamed. And online i die every 2 seconds.
