I'm a Star Wars fan. I'm not sure why people are disappointed with it now being in the hands of Disney, Disney make fantastic stuff and I for one am excited to see what they'll do with episodes 7, 8 and 9  :).

I'm a bit worried for the fact it's being made by JJ Abrams because he has the bad habit of embellishing the movie too much and forgetting about the story. From what I hear, that's what happened with Star Trek. Too much sfx and lens flares but with ample degrees of inconsistency with the ideals of the original work. I'm worried what might happen to Star Wars with him in charge. That being said, there's no possible way ep 7 could be worse than the prequels save for perhaps Revenge of the Sith.

Yes I still and always do no matter how badly the series may get for you, you know what I mean Twilacorn haters. Sure the chronologically first 3 films were comparatively bad, in many ways not limited to plot, writing and acting, but that doesn't take away from the series as a whole necessarily, nor make the original trilogy worse.

My opinion of the Batman series isn't lessened from Tommy Lee Jone's horrible Two-Face or Arnold Schwarzenneger's memorable but horrid Mr. Freeze. I still respect and love the series as a whole, though conversely my respect of it increased with Nolan's trilogy.

You shouldn't let anything, including some corporate takeover and manipulation a la Disney, or horrible acting and directing take away from something you love. Star Wars for me was the classic story and plot juxtaposed into a space frontier. It was and still is the space frontier, alongside Star Trek, and helped spur my own fascination and appreciation for space.

I like the whole good vs. evil Jedi/Sith thing and the lightsaber battles are pretty cool and force abilities are cool to, but I hate the dogma the Jedi and Sith have. They are both extremists in my opinion. Other than that, I have no real opinion on Star Wars.

I remember being a huge fan since I was in Kindergarten, watching and absolutely obsessing over the first 3 movies on TV and watching Episode I and III in theaters. I honestly never why so many fans vehementally loathed the prequals so much, I mean it was weak compared to the original trilogy but I stll liked them and don't think they're bad(aside from the overuse of CGI and the awful romance between Anakin and Padme). Plus it did introduce some of my favorite characters like Qui-Gon Jin, mace Windu, and Darth Maul. The only movie I didn't really care for was Episode II, mainly because other than the beginning of the Clone Wars, nothing really stood out. Though My favorite movie is still Episode V.

Admittantly, I'm still worried for how Disney will handle the series

As for the games, Rogue Squadron , KotOR, Republic Commando and Battlefront stand out to me as some of the best games out there, both for Star Wars and gaming in general

I love Star Wars, original trilogy, new one, clone wars, almost every computer game from this universe. Right now I'm waiting for new Star Wars movie (many people already hate it "because Disney" but I say- don't judge it until it's released). Still I miss Han Solo now, he was my favourite character from old trilogy (I wanted to be like him when I was a child  ), too bad new triloge missed someone like him. The only things I don't like from Star Wars are The Force Unleashed 2 (boring locations and fights, not to mention- ridiculous ending) and The Old Republic (it had a lot of potential, but was destroyed when it became f2p. On RP server many people like to play role of total idiots on general chat. Also best items look terrible and updates are almost non-existant now).

I Love Star Wars. I'd love to see Battlefront 3 come out.

I haven't read any of the books, but I've watched all the movies, the TV series and some of the games.

Episode 1 Phantom Menace was the worst Star Wars movie.....I only watch it for the Pod Race and the saber fights in it.

I got Hooked on Star Wars from the original Trilogy....which I have on VHS, in a boxed set.

I'd love to get a couple LEGO star Wars sets. mainly The Millennium Falcon and Luke's X-Wing, and then hang them from my ceiling.

I've also got other Star Wars toys around.....

it's one of those things that if some one asks me what I want for Christmas/birthday I say Star Wars, and they know exactly what to get me.

I sure love it, has it's flaws, but overall I just love it. Tho I have to admit I like various novels and stuff connected to the Old Republic way more than anything with direct touch from Lucas.

But yeah, I see it going bad and fast. Lucas is kind of a freak and after starting the franchise, all he did was damage it over the time and Disney, well, I think it's not good at all. I don't trust them to make anything good with the franchise and they pretty much lost me when they canceled Clone Wars (which I really love for some reason) simply because it has been contracted to CN and they refuse to produce anything that won't be aired on their TV channel. Dismantling some of the iconic studios tied to SW didn't really give them any points with me either.

But of course! I was practically raised on Star Wars. It was my favorite movie until LOTR came out, and it's still my 2nd favorite movie. I consider 4, 5, and 6 to be one movie, and that's the one I'm talking about. 1, 2, and 3 were alright but nowhere near as good, I don't really need to explain that though, it's kinda beating a dead horse, haha.

I reaaaaallly want one of those Force FX lightsabers. Either purple, or blue.

I like so many Star Wars games but especially kotor, Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight (my childhood), the Rogue Squadron series, the SNES games I never owned but rented alllll the time, and quite a few others.

I gotta make special mention for Jedi Academy though. That game was awesome, and I really liked the duel mode online. Felt so good when you were the champion, taking on all challengers, plus I made a lot of friends in there just chatting it up waiting for your turn to duel. Good times, I wish I could do that again. I think about that game more than I probably should 10 years later, haha.

My enjoyment of the series has been sullied over the years. It isn't just the prequels because I can get over them, but the book series as well. After the Yuzhann Vong series and the fall of Jacen Solo and the Republic; I grew very tired of the series going in constant circles with the galatic wars. It was literally getting to the point that once one war finished, another massive one begin. The book series used to follow single stories or at the most, trilogies but now they focus on 15 book anthologies that, while well written, just get tiring. How many times does the galaxy need to collapse in Skywalker's lifetime?

However, I am still an encyclopedia of Star Wars knowledge due to my obsession with it over the years. Read most of the books, studied the more important comic-book arcs (Dark Empires, Knights of the Old Republic <not based off the game :P> and Enemy of the Empire as some examples) and almost everything Boba Fett Related. I still love talking about and discussing the lore of the expanded universe and I still hold a huge weakness in my heart for both Fett and lightsabers ^_^

I just wish the books would return to single story arcs that focused more on characters than a universal war :(

I couldn't agree more regarding the books. Incidentally, the ones I liked the most where the single story books that in terms of the time line, followed directly after the events of RotJ. Not to mention the anthologies you refer to made some of the worst decisions EVER.

Killing Chewbacca? Whoever thought that was a good idea, f*ck you.

Killing Mara Jade? Whoever thought that was a good idea, f*ck you too :P

I actually think that the books regarding the first years in Jacen and Jaina's training on Yavin were really good, but like you said, it went downhill with the start of the Yuzhaan Vong. I couldn't understand 80% of what was happening for that matter, and some of the newer books seem to even retcon a lot of that, from what I hear.

I highly recommend you read the Expanded Universe. There are books that really dissect the "religion" of the Force. You see, the Prequels really ruined the concept of the Jedi and Dark Jedi (I refuse to call them Sith for reasons I will get into later if someone wants me too).

The first book to really get into the Force and what it is all about is Courtship of Princess Leia. Luke feels very guilty about the idea of using the Force because he thinks he is sucking the energy away from life. At the same time, a tribe of Force-Sensitive women must struggle with the concept of Good and evil. It is through his interaction with them, and teaching one of the younger members; Luke comes to several powerful conclusions.

Another Force-Focused trilogy is the Jedi Academy Trilogy which shows the evils and corruption that the Dark Side creates as well as bringing in a lot of the ancient lore from the Old republic (Exar Kun mostly).

One of the stigmas Lucas put into the Jedi was the idea that Jedis should never marry - making them like a religious sect. This is just not true in the Expanded Universe. Hundreds of Jedis had families with very powerful bloodlines. Yes, some Jedi did fall because of rage that was incited when a loved one was lost (Nomi Sunrider being one of them) but others focused their love to become more powerful and helpful to those around them.

The Force is dissected the most, however, during the Yuzhann Vong books where Jacen begins questioning being a Jedi. He begins to experiment with the Force and under the tutorledge of a bird-like "Jedi" named Vergree (spelling), he learns that there is no "Dark Side" or "Light Side" as the Jedis and Dark Jedis believed. The force is neutral and the "evil" and "Good" is all due to the intent of the user. Skywalker also learns this later but understands that this way of thinking is very dangerous also. He refuses to turn away from this info though but is cautious in teaching it.

In the Expanded universe, they aren't as "Extreme" as the movies made them out to be. In fact, Skywalker encourages his students to go out on their own after a while and discover their true purpose and talents in light.

If you want a fantastic series - I HIGHLY recommend the Young Jedi Knight books. it follows the solo kids as well as their experiences with The Force. Meant for young teens, it is still a fantastic and deliciously dark series.

I grew up with Star Wars but I wouldn't say I am too much a fan of it as of the present moment. I remember when my brothers and I would role play it out in are backyard. My brothers would always turn to the dark side so quickly lol. I would always choose the light side and try to be like Obi-Wan Kenobi my favorite character. I always thought of him to be the central character when it came to the movies. I mean at least he is in all the movies.

Chewbacca was something that pissed me off originally but as I read through the Vong series, I saw how important that death was

Because it moved Star Wars into a new territory. For all the books prior, we secretly knew that the good guys were off limits but after Vector Prime all bets were off. Star Wars stepped into a darker, more dangerous territory.

Some of the Vong books were prime. Seeing the Rebals use the Emporer's  Fist against the Vong was AMAZING! I was eating that book up! However there were some that were just so boring without moving in any direction whatsoever (the dark jedi who had lightsabers coming out of his wrists, knees, and elbows? WTF was that?!).

And yes, the books after the Vong reconned a lot. It was actually VERY irritating seeing Coruscant returning to a City planet. I wanted it to remain the jungle hellhole the Vong created! Putting Daala in charge after that? The fall of Jacen (really painful series there though they really showed Skywalker's power which was awesome).

And the

Mara Jade

thing was just irritating as hell. I mean while I don't mind main characters dying, it took fans HOW MANY YEARS for her to be used properly only for her to be thrown away in such an anticlimatic way?

Courtship of Princess  Leia

I haven't looked much into the expanded universe sadly, and that's mainly due to how much there is to cover.

Then allow me to be your guide!

The first thing you should do is read the following:

  • Tales of the Bounty Hunters
  • Tales of Mos Eisley
  • Tales from Jabba's Palace

These books all take place during the original trilogy. Bounty Hunters is pretty bad-ass as it explains background things (like a white IG-88 droid being in Cloud City before Chewie found C3PO) and it pays very close attention to background characters giving them all fantastic histories.

Jabba's palace is the most creative also. Bounty Hunters and Jabba's Palace share deep histories with Boba Fett which makes him even more fascinating a character.

If you want one of the most well written of the series, read Courtship of Princess Leia which showcases Luke learning about the Force as Han tries to win Leia's hand from a Prince. It has some serious moments (Han Solo's torture scene was painful to read) and some rather funny moments (Han Solo gambling in a seedy casino). It is easily one of the best ones of the Expanded universe.

The young Jedi Knight books may be for preteens but they have the most character development of the entire expanded universe.

New Republic's writing is off at times but it showcases a lot of Solo's past while introducing new threats to the republic.

The Jedi Knight Trilogy has Skywalker training new recruits and while some parts are odd, the overall trilogy introduces some fantastic weapons and characters...

If you want more, feel free to hit me up any time.

OH GOD YES!

If you love the OT, then you MUST MUST MUST Read

Dark Empire and Dark Empire II.

These comics are AMAZING

de-luke.jpg

Oh yeah, I'll be sure to check those out them. And since you mention the Vong series has its epic moments, I guess I'll look into that again :D

I highly recommend it. Vector Prime is a tough read but it really takes off after that. Esp with building Han solo's character development.

If you want to get excited allow me to share this kick-butt moment...

There is one part in the series...where a single Jedi (won't say who), goes head to head with an entire battalion of the Vong. Because they are honor-based the Vong fought him one at a time and as they battled, the Jedi and the Vong literally had to climb over the corpses of all those the Jedi slaughtered before they finally broke rank and attacked at once - and he still held his own.

ZMOG

OH LORD! And there is a comic book (I need to dig it out) that shares some info about what Boba Fett is up too during the vong invasion...and they tie that story in with the second to last book of the series. DUDE XD

I'm a Star Wars fan. I'm not sure why people are disappointed with it now being in the hands of Disney, Disney make fantastic stuff and I for one am excited to see what they'll do with episodes 7, 8 and 9  :).

The current trend (well, more like constant) is that Disney = Evil. Because they are so big and own so much, they MUST be evil. People see them shutting down Lucas Arts (while completely ignoring that 95% of all LucasArts IP's hadn't been used in the past 20 years - excluding monkey's island and Sam And Max - and on top of that Lucas Arts latest Star Wars games sold only decently with mediocre reviews) as an act worthy of treason.

What they ignore, however, is the fact that Disney doesn't do anything with the franchises they own. They just turn them over to people who know what they are doing. Look at Marvel. Avengers was fantastic and I am sure the new Star Wars will be entertaining as all hell too.

**ADDITION**

While I am on the subject of Star Wars; did you know your screen name "Freedan" is actually one of the most powerful Sith Lords (not Dark Jedi) who ever existed? Freedan Nadd was one of the cruelest and most powerful True Sith lords who ever existed and his spirit was the one that ended up corrupting Exar Kun and Ulic Qel Droma to the dark side XD

You're referring to Freedon Nadd. I know of him, but it's a common misunderstanding I've run into with other Star Wars fans xD

The name "Freedan" is actually from a SNES game called "The Illusion of Gaia" which is the second installment in the Terranigma series. Freedan is the eternal dark knight who aids the main character in his quest to reach the Tower of Babel. Nothing to do with Star Wars at all :umad:

Yes I love Star Wars. It's my favorite franchise overall. The Lego Star Wars and Star Wars Battlrfront are amazing. George Lucas is somewhat of an idol to me. I've thought that his special effects have been fantastic. My facorite movie in the series is Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith. I just hope Disney doesn't screw this up that would be disappointing.

I LOVE Star Wars! My favorite episode is The Empire Strikes Back. However, with Star Wars: Battlefront 3 being cancelled because of Disney owning the franchise, I got mad. Same with the prequel trilogy. But the original trilogy is where my love for it lies, and how can we forget the old "Who shot first?" on Tatooine?

I love Star Wars a lot. I have a ton of the original toys from around the time when the movies first came, out (Including two millennium Falcons, a few X and Y wing fighters, etc...) on display in my room. I don't really pay attention to the recent media involving it except for some of the spectacular video games based on it (I'm looking at you Star Wars Battlefront 1 and 2.)

I love Star Wars, too, it's my favorite science fiction/fantasy universe (after Star Wars I prefer Lord of the Rings, Honor Harrington, Dune, Friendship is Magic, Spacecenter Babylon 5, Battletech, Firefly and Battlestar Galactica). I have tons of toys, books, comics, videogames (currently playing KOTOR series again) and all movies, also I'm excited about the upcoming new films starting in 2015.

I so agree. My version of the EU starts with wherever the canon starts (The Celestials, I think, not sure of anything before then), and ends at The New Republic era. I find the Yuzhann Vong an incredibly boring arc, and after that the stories jus get so depressing and repetitive I really just don't care for them. The resurgence of Palpatine, new Empire, Darth Krayt, it's all the same story with different characters.
