Watching TV online is the only way I see commercials now, and just how sad some of them are.

This commercial is just...I can't even.

 

The top comment as it is right now is absolutely right and it makes me happy to see that some people in this world are still intelligent enough to see past stupid things like this commercial.

 

In case it changes, the current top comment is:

 

"This is disgraceful. a cartoon mascot aimed at kids being told he looks disgraceful and that his tagline of being happy and healthy is bad. That's a great message to send to kids. "When people tell you you're weird they're right, and being happy and healthy isn't cool." Great job cheerios."

 

And I agree with it completely...this commercial is just another way for people to say "Who you are isn't right, now conform to my liking."

 

What are your opinions on this?

If they wanted to change their image and mascot, there was undoubtedly a better way to do it dry.png . Really now, the whole thing looks messed up once you think about what's being rejected in the name of the new and cooler style. I can't believe nobody in the company pointed this out before the commercial was made.

It's not like I favor that cereal above all other foods or anything either...it's just how stupid society has become. :l

I don't know about this, I don't like the message. Maybe there really isn't supposed to be a message but changing yourself so others will like you is ridiculous. But it's just an advertisement so I don't care all that much. Weird commercial is weird.

This commercial is evidence that you really don't need to fix what isn't broken. Bee has far more swag than Nelly who can't sing anything without the aid of autotune anyways. I think this commercial not only sends the message that you need to conform with what the masses think is cool, but also shows how the industry itself conformed to something less than satisfactory when it comes to personal imagery.

I just find it stupid how they think they have to change every cartoon character and cartoon food mascots, they can't just leave the character the way he/she is even though the character is teaching good things already but then they have to go and change the character into some "swag" bee that is only about auto tuned music and new trends.

Swag is now important so by eating a cereal advertised by someone with "swag" I guess it means you have it too but autotune need to die. Seriously I don't see the appeal :shrugs: I dunno but If I start to see swag in my vegemite ads Imma smack a filly >:c

I was in a shop looking for mouthwash, and my friends told me to buy the one I saw most on TV adverts -_-.!

 

The commercial isn't great, they could have done it in a much better way tbh :/

The message is dumb and really poorly thought out. That's giving too much credit, this wasn't thought out. The message is bad. Conform to the masses or you are considered weird. Gee, thanks. I already hate society with a fiery passion, but this is making me hate it more. Also, the use of "swag" annoys me. What next? Is Tony the Tiger going to say "yolo"? I hate that these idiotic words made by idiots are being used and accepted in society.

I don't see a problem with the commercial.

 

All I see is Buzz meeting someone new and unusual, and going along with his flow for fun. Just mentally replace Nelly with a little girl dressing Buzz up in a frilly dress. It's the same attitude - Nelly sees an end goal, and is determined in his own way to make Buzz look awesome. I don't think he's saying "Your casual wear is ugly", more like "You seem like you'd like swag. Let's try giving you a makeover!" And naturally, his casual wear would have to go in the process of a makeover.

 

Wouldn't this scene depict the same thing?

 

 

If anything, it's worse - while Buzz seems excited about the new look, Twilight is clearly uninterested and distressed, to the point of running away as soon as Rarity's back is turned.

 

I really only see the commercial as Buzz meeting someone new and different, and being open-minded and accepting of his interests. Nelly appears forceful in this regard, but like Rarity, he probably has good intuition for a certain style, and sharing that style with a new friend is an act of good will on his part.

 

Isn't this dislike stemming more from an "I hate 'swag'" perspective? There wouldn't be such backlash if he got a makeover in some other style.

blink.png Wow!  Until today, I'd never even seen all of this commercial (mostly because that CGI is kind of terrifying so I just always skipped it at the 5 second mark).  But seriously Cheerios?  Seriously?  THE ENTIRE COMMERCIAL'S MESSAGE IS THAT BEING A BRIGHT, OPTIMISTIC, STRAIGHT FORWARD INDIVIDUAL ISN'T COOL, SO YOU NEED TO CONFORM TO OTHER PEOPLES STANDARDS INSTEAD!!! angry.png  You even dissed your own mascot's tagline for crying out loud!!  What on earth is wrong with being "happy and healthy"?!?!  *sigh* Seriously, buck Cheerios marketing department and buck Nelly for this really uncomfortable commercial! dry.png

Incorrect, on my part. I've gotten over people saying and believing in "swag, etc."

 

If it were any other style, I'd have the same reaction. I do not believe people should be told how to live, no matter how they're told. It should be their choice...nonetheless, that's off-topic, I think.

 

I am still rather disgusted by this commercial, and while "Conform to other peoples' likings" may not be the intended message, it is definitely what I perceived.
