Well depending on your case... idk but i simply had overbite, "simply" LOL, yeah it's not that simple to fix an overbite. ( Screws in the gums (or that head gear thingy to put at night..it wouldn't let you sleep)... plus later on you have to remove your wisdom teeth via surgery. 2 down 2 to go for me, second one is in December) and the multiple times they would scrape the hell out of my inner cheeks, and when they break. Plus the monthly trip to the dentist which sucks, because when he tightens them you will feel intense, vivid pain for 2 to 3 days. But I got used to them and they didn't stop me from eating anything. PS: i still have some kind of permanent retainer glued to the internal side of my teeth which is still annoying after 3 years.

(here a errr little explanation http://www.warringtonandhaltonhospitals.nhs.uk/page.asp?fldArea=3&fldMenu=21&fldSubMenu=10&fldKey=1206)

Hm well I guess it's good I'm not getting braces mostlikely.. Otherwise this would be one of those "curiosity kills the cat" moments.

My curiosity is a bit... Bad sometimes :P.

But ow, sounds heck of a lot of pain...

GAHHHHHH

I always wanted to have braces, I think most people look good with them, but I've always have had perfect teeth so I've never needed them... until I got 2 of my wisdom teeth pulled, my teeth moved just a tiny bit, so that might be a good excuse to get braces lol, but I don't have money for that shit...

Yes, they were a total bitch, I hated them. Rice would always get stuck in them. Plus they left my teeth always feeling sore every time I had to change wires. I gave up on my retainer after about 2 weeks because I was feed up with crap in my mouth, my tooth alignment didn't suffer much either.

I actually just got my braces off a few months ago...In early March I think. I hated having them. I had them since I was about 11. They hurt pretty bad.

I had braces for around six years. My orthodontist must have been smoking something funny, because I probably could have had them off two years earlier. I started getting used to them fairly quick. If they had adjusted my teeth would be a little sore for the rest of the day, but nothing serious. The first few days were terrible. Anyone who has had braces knows what I'm talking about. I wasn't used to the feel, and my teeth moved enough to change visibly in three days. Call me a wuss (and I really was back then), but it hurt like many bad words.

Yep. Got them when I was about 9 years-old and had them until I was 14. Those 5 years felt like an eternity. I had to have ___ permanent teeth extracted just to make room for the rest that were coming in, and I had to go through the pain of braces to keep them straight. Really sucked.

On the bright side, my teeth are normal these days. Had I not had them... I can't describe how twisted and ridiculous they would be. Probably to the point that I wouldn't be able to close my mouth comfortably, judging by how things were progressing around the time that I originally got them.

I got really lucky and was offered something called Invisalign which has the same outcome of braces but I could take them out to eat like retainers. My teeth used to be really bad but the Invisalign worked incredibly well and I got it all over and done with in under two years.

  • 2 weeks later...

For four years. I had rubber bands, bite plate, head gear, you name it. It was awful, painful, and my teeth still aren't straight. The top I kinda like their crookedness, but the bottom bothers me.

My teeth are SUPER-messed-up, like to the point where I went to the dentist when I was 13 and he told braces won't even help anymore, he said I would surgery and thousands of dollars worth of treatment followed by a lot of pain and ugliness to fix my teeth. So no, I never had, and never will have braces. My teeth are fine from a dental standpoint though, they just look bent :P.

I will be getting braces within the next few months, just on my top row of teeth. I really don't want them, but my parents say I have to get them or my teeth will get crooked. :(

Ugh... Does anyone know if they're easy to take out, or if you're allowed to take them out at all before you stop wearing them, like if you're going to a party or something..?

  • 1 year later...

I actually never had braces. My teeth are straight, except with a very minor cross bite. So I have no idea what having braces feel like (and I certainly don't want to know).

I have braces on right now. I waited a few years because my teeth were in really horrific shape and couldn't get them until it improved.

The teeth improved, I've been taking a lot better care of them, and now it looks like it'll be off in a few months.

I had braces, many years ago. Then I got them off, and couldn't see a difference between the before and after. So, to this day, I have no idea why my parents put me through that. -_-

playing trumpet with braces is going to impair me
For the record, this is actually not a thing. You would still be capable of playing the trumpet with braces. I played trumpet myself, in grades 7 through 11. c:

Nope, one tooth is a bit off but it doesn't really matter, Although sometimes I'd like to be able to fix it with those invisible braces, but it costs quite a bit.

I had them for a year- maybe longer- after entering my teenage years, and my teeth really needed them, it's safe to say. :please: They made eating and talking a whole lot more annoying, and they could get pretty distracting as well, especially noticing how they felt when I tried to sleep and not being able to get my mind off them being there easily.
