music Favorite Song from the 80's

(I made it the 80's to make this much easier.)

What is your favorite 80's song(s), and sing a line from that song(s). It does not have to been from a specific genre. I have three that I know alot.

(In no specific order)

1. Tears for Fears- Everybody Wants to Rule the World.

Some lyrics from the song-

"Let me make the most,

of freedom and of pleasure,

nothing ever lasts forever,

Everybody Wants to Rule the World."

2. a-ha - Take on Me

Some lyrics from the song-

"So needless to say,

I'm odds and ends,

I'll be stumbling away,

slowly learning that life is ok,

Say after me,

it's better to be safe then sorry."

3. The Police - Every Breath You Take

Some lyrics from the song-

"Since you've gone, I've been lost, without a trace,

I dream at night, but I only see your face,

I look around but it's you I can't replace,

I feel so cold, and I long for your embrace,

I keep crying, baby, baby, please."

I love all 3 of those songs! I'm also a fan of 80s power metal, NWOBHM and thrash metal.

For example:

Iron Maiden- Hallowed be thy Name

(Intro verse)

I'm waiting in my cold cell

When the bell begins to chime

Reflecting on my past life

And it doesn't have much time

'Cause at 5 o' clock

They take me to the gallows pole

The sands of time, for me,

Are running low...

Tough tough choice, so many good and equaly horrible songs

I'll go Metallica's "Seek and Destroy " from Kill em all album

We're scanning the scene

In the city tonight

We're looking for you

To start up a fight

There is an evil feeling

In our brains

But it's nothing new

You know it drives us insane

Running

On our way

Hiding

You will pay

Dying

One thousand deaths X2

Searching

Seek and Destroy X4

Then cant go without one 80's One hit wonder

Midnight Oil "Beds are Burning"

Out where the river broke

The bloodwood and the desert oak

Holden wrecks and boiling diesels

Steam in forty five degrees

The time has come

To say fair's fair

To pay the rent

To pay our share

The time has come

A fact's a fact

It belongs to them

Let's give it back

How can we dance when our earth is turning

How do we sleep while our beds are burning

How can we dance when our earth is turning

How do we sleep while our beds are burning

Hm. I think it might have to be Electric Avenue from Eddy Grant. I mean for once, it's catchy as hell. And second, it has its own unique style of a genre that came about in the 70's that makes me enjoy it so much. Also, I just love Eddy Grant's voice. Just take a look:

Great songs! It looks like you might be a fan of '80s pop/rock like I am (along with music from other decades). Incidentally, all three of those songs were #1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100.

Despite (or perhaps because of) all the time I've spent looking up songs and how popular they were on the charts, I've never been very good at deciding what my "best" or "favorite" songs and artists are. That being said, here are a couple of really good songs from the '80s that come to mind. Like your picks, they were #1 hits on the Hot 100.

Sweet Child O' Mine - Guns N' Roses

I like the riffs and sound of this song in particular. Here's the first verse:

She's got a smile that it seems to me

Reminds me of childhood memories

Where everything was as fresh as the bright blue sky

Now and then when I see her face

She takes me away to that special place

And if I stared too long I'd probably break down and cry

With Or Without You - U2

I really like the lyrics to this one and how they combine with the music to create an emotional rise and fall. Here are my favorite verses:

See the stone set in your eyes

See the thorn twist in your side

I wait for you

Sleight of hand and twist of fate

On a bed of nails she makes me wait

And I wait without you

With or without you

With or without you

Through the storm we reach the shore

You give it all but I want more

And I'm waiting for you

...

My hands are tied

My body bruised, she's got me with

Nothing to win and

Nothing left to lose

That song is catchy as hell. I had it stuck in my head all last week.

So let's see, some of my favorite 80's songs...

Welcome to the Pleasuredome - Frankie Goes to Hollywood

Weird song by a very weird band.

Here's the thirteen and a half minute mix. It speaks for itself.

I Go Crazy - Flesh for Lulu

Wonderful song. I love everything about it.

Pictures of You - The Cure

Have this'n on cassette, and said cassette is played very often.

Orange Crush - R.E.M.

R.E.M. was about 20 years behind the curve on this, the song being about 'Nam and all, but it's still a good'n.

Hell, I could keep on listing songs, but I think I'll just end it there.

All I ever really listen to is stuff from the 70's and 80's, and I enjoy it all so much it's really difficult to choose favorites. But I suppose for the latter era, this may be an accurate favorites list:

Adrenalin - Road of the Gypsy

Queen - A Kind of Magic (Highlander Version)

Queen - Princes of the Universe

Hard to answer: Lots of music I listen to was made in the 80s or the 70s.

I’d vote for Earth Wind & Fire- Lets Groove: I love the video as well. It’s old and crappy but I actually like that about it.

Musically I love all of it: got the 12” single and often would put the needle back on the record to repeat certain parts. Sadly this version misses out the bit where the vocals go out and leaves just instrumental.

So when I was a kid, this song was my favorite. From the time I can first remember hearing it on the radio when I was maybe 6 until I was 19, this was the theme song of my life.

Of course, since I don't really care about dating anymore, I don't listen to it much anymore. But it's still my favorite from the 1980s. So I present to you, from 1983, "I Melt with You" by Modern English :)

Rock you Like a Hurricane by Scorpions. Surprisingly, this is one of the only metal bands Im okay with listening to. Their music is more like hard rock.

Crazy Train by Ozzy Osbourne. Duh.

Back in Black by ACDC. Amazing.

Thunderstruck by ACDC. Same as above.

There are so many amazing songs to pick from. Let's see, my favorite would probably have to be Love is a Battlefield by Pat Benatar. My dad always used to play her CD in the car whenever we drove somewhere when I was a little kid, so I've pretty much enjoyed her music my entire life. This one song has always been my favorite of hers.

I know this piece of awesomeness is from 1989, and it might as well be a 90's song, especially considering it's by Soundgarden, but fuck that, it's still technically an 80's tune, and a great one at that.

Man, being a child of the 80s it's very hard to pick.  So I think I'll just list some of my favorites:

"Oh Sherry" by Steve Perry

Almost anything Michael Jackson, but in particular Beat It, Thriller, or Billie Jean

Take on Me by A-Ha

You Might Think by The Cars

Eye of the Tiger by Survivor (aka the Rocky III music)

I have a few songs that I like from the 80's Well more like all the songs I like are from the 80's

Duran Duran - The Reflex

a-ha - Take On Me

Duran Duran - New Moon On Monday

Is it cheating using 2 songs from the same band?
