I don't understand where they were going with this, what was even the point? Peter and Brian are voiced by the same actor, kill of his character would only make since if said actor did not want to voice him anymore. But that would mean that they would have had to get rid of Peter to if it was the case that the actor was through.

Trying to have big complicated dramatic changes in the cast's status, in a show that people really just watch haphazardly out-of-order on weekends for some laughs is a bad idea. It's fine for Fry to die, or for Homer to contract Syphillis, or for Cartman to join the Scientologists, but at the end of the day people expect things to go back to normal. It means the laugh-havers need not get caught up in some cycle of keeping an eye out for important plotline episodes. That's important for good Saturday shows.

Having a change like this in Family Guy, was pretty unexpected. I feel that the Stewie/Brian duo was the only thing that kept the show running even as a subplot, so with that being sad it was a bad decision.

I haven't seen a new episode in quite a while, but hearing about this and knowing the way the show's going and Seth's attitude it sounds like a desperate shout for attention to try and stir controversy and get the show on the radar again.

 

I wouldn't be surprised if the show ended soon.

I really don't care to be honest. Family guy is losing its appeal to me, and the show is way too preachy. Like when Meg tells off her family in the hurricane episode, or when Brian goes on some rant. I watch family guy to laugh, not to get invested in the show. Quagmire's sister's boyfriend nearly killing Quagmire was also kind of boring. I don't really care for the more serious family guy episodes. I don't care about the characters enough to care about when serious stuff happens.

 

Well, I suppose maybe I did tear up a little bit when they were all crying after brian died. Brian and Stewie episodes are the best in my opinion, and those are over...for now. I'm going to give the new dog a chance. For all we know he isn't even permanent, he could just be temporary. Still though, he could turn out to be an interesting new character.

I have to give some credit here, because this is a risky move. I don't know if it is the smartest move, because the Stewie-Brian duo episodes were some of the better ones in the modern era, while the rest of the characters have gone downhill horribly. Still, I commend them for trying something new, if it really is something new and not a Brian recreatin.

Given it was another time travel episode, and the car came out of nowhere...

Half bet the car was driven by either stewie or Brian, and Brian will return somewhere down the road explaining how the whole thing went down.

No idea tbh, but the whole situation boils down to sounding like a helluva joke, like when stewie killed lois and it turned out to just be a simulation.

Truthfully I haven't watched this show in years. But, I am really not a fan of Vinnie. Sounds a bit too much, like someone from Jersey Shore to be honest. I really hope this is just a chain of reactions. I read on Facebook that this could be a set up for a Christmas Family Guy episode, where one of the characters makes a Christmas Wish for Brian to be alive again. That actually makes sense.

Is anyone else here annoyed by the new dog?  Brian was so moderate and easy to listen to, but this thing is annoying as ****.  The show was failing IMO, but killing off a main character wasn't the way to bring it back to its glory days.  Better writing seems like a superior method.

As a writer, I like the move on the basis that it's risky and re-shuffles the cards. So sick of books and television programmes playing things formulaic. We need some tragedy now and again!

 

That being said, killing off what was arguably the anchor of the show, and the most popular character of the show, is a move that seems to be completely and utterly suicidal on MacFarlane's behalf. Though I personally didn't care for Brian (I hate overtly-preachy characters), killing him off is pretty much the worst thing you could do. It honestly sounds like them doing it just because of the Simpsons plan to get rid of Edna Krabappel in some way, just to say they can beat them to the punch and stir up controversy for their show.

 

Sure, you might get a temporary boost in ratings, but when the fans see that the new dog can't fill Brian's shoes, those ratings will hit the floor faster than a lump of lead.

stupid move imo. Brian wasn't the best char, but he wasn't a bad one either. Its fair to say he was way more than tollable. this is a shock more than anything, Personally i didn't cry, i am not mad but this is quite a bummer. I never really thought of Brian as the anchor, but now that I read it, it does make sense.

They should've offed someone else less known, and for a change kept them dead.

Simpsons did it pretty well with Flanders wife, and in a semi humorous way no less.

I dunno, Brian was proven wrong when he tried to take on Rush Limbaugh. Then realized he was ragging on the extremists and not the actual party since he himself became one. And ended up going against everything he stood for, and tried too.

 

Brians been put down a few times, but I agree, he has had a bit of a high chair at times.

Quagmire's rant on why Brian is an awful person pretty much sums up why I don't think this is a bad decision. I don't think it was handled particularly well and I'm convinced this is a ratings-grab and Brian will be back on the show soon, but I think a breath of fresh air is definitely needed for the show to continue to do well. Or just get cancelled already, because even Seth is kind of tired of doing it.

Honestly, Brian Griffin was one of the worst characters in animated history. An unholy amalgamation of every cardinal sin one could commit when writing a character. A douchebag, unlikable, unfunny, mary sue author avatar whose only real "flaws" were injected so haphazardly and artificially that even Glee characters looked half-way genuine by comparison.

 

Running him over may not be enough to save a trainwreck like Family Guy, but at least television is forever rid of one horrendous character.

I cried when Vinny found Stewie crying.  That was pretty sad.  I think Brain complimented Stewie's character perfectly, and don't think they can every find a better match.  But I doubt he's really gone.  They never showed who drove the car.  There was a lot about the time machine at the beginning, and how every Stewie in all the dimensions have one.  I just don't think he's really gone for good.

Personally, I started hating Brian when Quagmire pointed out all of his flaws and I realized that they were true.

 

And then, when children were being neglected at Stewie's daycare, but turned a blind eye to it because the woman was attractive.

 

So, I didn't really care when I saw him die because of that.

 

(Unlike my brother, who is a HARDCORE Brian-hater.)

 

Plus, I don't think Seth and the writers have the guts to make it stick for a full season.
